  1. according to RCDB, the PPH capacity is 1,140 pph http://rcdb.com/12260.htm
  2. If it truely runs thru 40 people in 2 minutes, that would be 1200 pph, which is a lot. My guess is the official capacity is a little less than that (1,000) and the real capacity even a little less than that figure (800 pph). Guesses only, somebody w/ more knowledge and experience can probably give you a better estimate.
  3. Better start watching out? Since 2011, Intamin has installed 1 roller coaster (according to RCBD.com) in the North America (Sky Rush). In that same time period, B&M has installed 6 with a 7th just announced and a pretty solid bet that Carowinds will be getting a B&M as well. Throw in the issues they've had with their Tower additions this year (not sure what % of the blame they receive for those delays), the accident on their 4th dimension coaster overseas which is similar to one of their 2011 coaster additions in the US (Green Lantern) as well as the issues up at CP last season and well they needed to be watching out long before now.
  4. ^^^ Fair points, however one thing I'd have to question is the sanitation issues. With two young kids, we bring our own water bottles a good chunk of the time, and they fill them with water, no questions ask all around the park. We also wash our souvenir cups, so that they are cleaned and ready for the next trip, probably like most people, but you know there are people who don't bother washing them, or just throw some water at them, and dump them out, never using soap to clean them properly. I can't imagine bringing in another container would adversely affect the sanitation levels any more than bringing back your souvenir cup 15 trips later in the season, sometime around mid October.
  5. Is there anything out at CSF that would potentially go here? Last time I saw anything about what was sitting out in their parking lot, was for the Carowinds project. There was still some yellow track that was allegedly for the family invert going to China, some white track that IIRC people thought was going to the Carolinas, and some other track. I though I read on here that the park was advertising some sort of "special" delivery coming to the park on Friday that would link to the announcement; obviously that delivery doesn't automatically equate to track or supports (no matter where they are coming from) but if supports were to be delivered tomorrow for a B & M, I would think there would be a decent amount of staging out at CSF to get them loaded and ready to hit the road sometime tomorrow morning.
  6. yes, most people could indeed care less, which would imply that most people do at least care some.
  7. By code, you have to have at least 2 means of egress inside a building. Perhaps this structure falls into an exception, but I'd be shocked if there was only 1 entrance/exit into the building when all is said and done.
  8. stuffing tissue paper into the shoes isn't going to make a huge difference. Could it be enough to push them over the mark? Sure, but I've seen kids measured in all kinds of different shoes and there can be a significant difference in added height depending on the shoes. A thin pair of flip flops add little height, a thick pair of basketball shoes can add an inch or more to a kids true height. When my son hit the 48" mark for the first time, I doubt he grew much from the week before, but he did have on a brand new pair of gym shoes that were a little thicker than the prior pair he wore. I'd have to look next time, but I don't think his feet actually hit the floor on most of the coasters we ride, so the added 1/2 or so that those shoes gave him added nothing to the safety equation other than increasing his height just enough to go from just missing the mark to just hitting the mark. He was as safe the first time he rode The Beast as he would have been the week prior. I believe you can say the same thing with stuffing some tissue paper in the bottom of a kids shoes, especially when it comes to rides like Diamondback or Banshee where the bottom of the shoes won't come into contact with anything anyways. I understand rules are rules, and I'm sure that it has happened that the wrong wrist band has been given, or the parents got an older child to wiggle out of their wrist band, then have the younger kid put it on, that would be a more likely scenario than stuffing a kids shoes with tissue paper. It would have to be fairly obvious that a rider wasn't at the listed height to justify pulling them out. In reality, their body proportions probably play a much larger role in their safety than an extra inch or two. My son always "complains" that the lap bar doesn't come down to his lap, there is a gap there, and I always tell him that he's perfectly safe, he doesn't get to enjoy the experience of The Beast with only a buzz bar (and gravity) holding you in.
  9. I've been with my son at each stage of the measurement chart thru 48" (about 51" now w/ shoes on) and I've never once seen an employee question his height when he had the wrist band on, even when he was in one of the tentative stages where one trip he's make the mark, the next trip he wouldn't (seems like the 42" mark gave us the most trouble in consistency with him, for whatever reason). The only times I've seen kids checked for height, after getting in their seat is on Woodstock Express, and inevitably, every time that kid is pulled off to verify height, they don't have a wrist band on.
  10. Don't know about that. But have a question in a similar vain. Have the anti-rollbacks always been in place on the two lift hills on Race for your Life Charlie Brown? I don't recall seeing them, but I don't ride the ride all that often and just happened to notice them this year for the first time (or perhaps I've noticed them, but realized why they were actually there after last season's issues at CP?) Your answer....Yes, since about 1967 or so.... thanks, that would have been my guess, never gave a 2nd thought seeing them prior I guess. On another note, I've always been able to convince my son to sit in the back with me, until last trip when he told me, no we have to sit in the front, you get wetter. I tried convincing him that you go faster in the back, but he wasn't buying it. Score one for the kid of the old man who was already soaked from WWC and got a little more soaked thanks to a kid that is quickly learning to read thru my BS
  11. German speaking country, not Germany necessarily.Switzerland is a German speaking country. As well as Italian and French, which makes going to the movies than an interesting experience with all 3 languages subtitled into the flick with all speech done in English (or so I am told b one person's experience).
  12. Don't know about that. But have a question in a similar vain. Have the anti-rollbacks always been in place on the two lift hills on Race for your Life Charlie Brown? 13. What if rider # 10,000,000 takes his ride at approx 9:45 PM next Wednesday. What if said rider was also from Illinois and needed to leave town the next day to get back home (or continue their vacation elsewhere) and did not have either the means and/or the time to return to KI this season for a full VIP tour? 2015 makes a lot of sense for a whole lot of reasons, mainly flexibility for the winner of such a prize to work around. All in all, a pretty cool package.
  14. When I asked my magic 8 ball if KI was going to get its eagles back in place of Shake, Rattle & Roll, it told me to check with the Dip 'n Dots vendor. Don's silence is deafening, though it may not mean much at this point. My hope, is that it is relocated as part of next season's additions. Based upon recent trends, it certainly seems like a set of Flying Scooters is likely in KI near future (I could see that being added next season similar to Cedar Point's additions last off season following their major coaster installation). Perhaps with SRR down for the count, they decided to just take it down for the season why they wait for parts, then put it next to wherever a set of Flying Scooters would be installed next season. There are a couple of spots in the parks I could see both of those rides complimenting each other well (kind of like they used to prior to the removal of the Eagles). Back in Action Zone as part of a further development/rebranding of that area, back where Snoopy Junction is located (seems like 50% or more of the trains are empty anytime were in that part of the park, though I'll admit that is generally middle of the week, in the evening, so not the best time to judge the popularity of many attractions in Planet Snoopy, or even in Oktoberfest. Time will obviously tell, but I would assume we would know for sure by the time Cedar Fair starts announcing additions for their parks next season; mid August perhaps, or 3-4 weeks.
  15. That doesn't solve the problem that the average member of the general public looking for the park website would be likely to try kingsisland.com first and would never think of visitkingsisland.com until they give up and go to Google. I know when looking for an unfamiliar website, I often try obvious domains directly before hitting Google. very true; however I'm one of those people that unless I go to the website on a regular basis, I use a search for the site, rather than typing in the name of the site. I know homedepot.com is the website for home depot, but I generally just go thru the search; not sure why. On the other hand, I know exactly why I do a search for Dick's Sporting Goods, not quite sure what an inexact url would direct me to. I figure for those like me that only go to KI's website a handful of times a year, the pki.com is shorter and easier to remember/spell correctly than visitkingsisland.com
  16. For those that are unaware, pki.com still works (redirects you to visitkingsisland.com) and requires less typing.
  17. Awesome idea, the only question is, how much of a cut would Little Joe ask for?
  18. thanks Terpy, that makes complete sense.
  19. Just an update from later in the evening. I got to the park around 5:45 or a shade after, meet them in Planet Snoopy for a ride on Boo Blasters and a few other things. We headed out towards the Tower, then circled back around b/c my son wanted to get on White Water Canyon. I reluctantly agreed (love the ride, just hate being soaked the rest of the evening). As we passed by the tower, we saw where the meet/greet was set up. At this time it was a little before 6:30 and the characters were gone and the line dispersed. I have no idea if they shut down the line when they anticipated that the back of it would get to the front around 6:00 or if at 6:00 they just said sorry to everyone waiting in line (would certainly suck to be in line w/ your kid a few spots away and have them just walk off). On a side note, the park was completely out of 48" wrist bands. How the heck does that happen, I would have assumed they had those out the wazzu unless they had a bad shipment and didn't realize it until they opened up the box. Don't know how long it takes to get those restocked, I assume those are the most important ones since the list of rides added at that height is second only to the 36" mark, but includes many of the parks most popular attractions. On another side note, I walked past the motorcycle parking area and noticed every single bike had a small piece of squareish wood under the pedestal. The first one had a nice chrome pedestal, so I just assumed it was the owner wanting not to scuff up the kick stand. However, then I noticed it on all of them, including bikes that had older rusted up kick stands, so I figured it was a KI policy. Anyone know why? Seemed strange, but I'm sure there is good reason; just can't think of it myself.
  20. OK, so my wife just called, she thinks they're about "15 min" away from meeting them, though she seems to think all 3 may be out there when she gets to the front (which would be good I suppose) All told, seems like she'll be standing in line for roughly 3 hours. Thankfully she had her mother along with her today so she could take the kids on the Grand Carousel (bet they didn't realize the Wurlitzer was working), Eiffel Tower and a few other things.
  21. My wife called from the line to meet the Avengers. She said it extended from the Eiffel Tower or wherever the meet/greet was setup around the Eiffel Tower, back to the smooth stand along the path next to Diamondback's pond. Don't know how quickly its moving, but she gave the impression that its not moving very fast. Said she heard from 1 employee (security guard I think, so the information isn't nearly as reliable as if it had come from Don, reader beware) that the meet/greet was a lot more popular than they were anticipating. She said they were bringing out the Avengers 1 at a time due to the heat. Sounds like they should have had this in the KI Theater or somewhere w/ AC where all 3 (Iron Man, Thor and Captain America) could engage the crowds comfortably all at once. I won't be joining them until later, and even then may do an exchange and take the son on rides while the Wife takes the girl and goes home with her mom, so this is all 2nd hand (at best), but figured there may be some thinking about heading up there this afternoon to meet the Avengers. I'll post later if I get to talk to her again about how long it took her to get thru the line.
  22. Have fun down there. There is a ton of history and architecture down there. If you get a chance to explore the French Quarter there are a lot of interesting sights. I assume you are underage, so I wouldn't recommend exploring in the evening and no matter the time of day, never stray too far away from the river, IIRC the recommendation is to stay w/n the first 4 streets off the river, otherwise it goes down hill very quickly. Tons of awesome food around every corner and a lot of interesting people watching.
  23. Never tried those, may have to next time. Usually its the Buckwheat pancakes for me, but I'll take up your recommendation next time I'm there O'Terpy.
  24. That is unless he is standing in line for a baseball bat, but that would be kinda weird, especially for a 10 minute wait. You ever try to get someone to get something off a high shelf at Dicks? 10 minutes would be an improvement over my last venture
  25. and for the record, this auto correct on the names of rides at the park that may be similar to phrases or words used outside of Cedar Point is annoying. Obviously I was using the phrase "The Beast" not trying to implicate the worlds longest roller coaster; he's claimed enough victim's already
