Kings Island 2014 Discussion Thread
We saved Banshee for last. Got in line at 9:45 and were in the gift ship by 10:30. Didn't get to the park until 6 but the lines for the big coasters were still long. We hit all the smaller coasters and had a great time. Lots of rides down by the time we got there but still a great start to the season. All of the upgrades to Action Zone look amazing. Festhaus food was less than stellar as usual. Must remember to get pizza from International LaRosas not the Festhaus.Caught the begging if The Boys are Back. My daughters loved it but I think nails on a chalkboard sounded better. Back to the park on Sunday!

Season Long Dining Plan
Has anyone seen any further information on this? I looked back through the News Letters and didn't see any mention of it. My Family and i are at the park practically every Sunday so it would work great for us!

ERT (Early Ride Time) 2014
Hopefully it will draw attendance from Cedar Point as I am the only one in the Family to have ever been and we plan on wearing out our Platinums this year. Either way, it's going to be a GREAT Summer!

Predicted Weather for Kings Island Opening day?
Weather looks great for Friday! Now hopefully processing lines won't be backed up as I have to get the entire Family through before ERT.

Banshee Construction Progress
I forsee one of those "Make you jump videos" coming from a timelapse of Banshee. Watch it for a few seconds and then she pops up on the screen and screams. Now who want to do it?

I have a fog horn. It's too big to bring with me though. Would definitely add something to Haunt though.

Is it possible not to get drenched on White Water Canyon, or is it possible not to get soaked on Congo Falls?
White Water Canyon is like playing Russian Roulette. More often than not, you are going to get wet. With Congo Falls, you can avoid getting drenched by strategically sitting in the Boat. I only get wet on Congo Falls since my Wife won't ride it so I have to take the kids while she gets drenched on White Water Canyon.

2014 Park Map
I don't see it being Flying Eagles. You can clearly see what appear to be 6 footers plus a central footer. If you look at a picture of The Flying Eagles, it uses 4 footers much closer together.

You didn't offend me. I was thinking the same thing. Some people have absolutely no sense of humor. LOL, OMG and the like are all outdated but I don't call people childish for using them. It annoys me big time but welcome to freedom of speech.

Question for Don
And its funny you mentioned cannon because that is exactly what we simulate with it.

Question for Don
I wasn't there but working with pyro on a regular basis would lead me to believe what you hears was called a concussion. It is basically black powder loaded into a mortar and ignited. You can vary the loudness by adding more or less powder. 3/4 of an ounce of powder will scare the dickens out of you in a 18K+ seat hockey arena.

Vine path to Kiddieland
It was after 2000 as I remember it being there when I went with a group from work.

What ride would you remove from Kings Island?
CLEARLY you have never had to stand in line with kids waiting to ride the Whirlybirds. It gets plenty of attention. Very rarely are we able to get in in under 5 minutes and this is the norm as my Daughter must ride it multiple times every time we are there. That and it doesn't take up much room and is a unique ride with it being elevated. I tmay be old and it might not be a thriller, but to the youngins, it's amazing.

Season Passes
Thanks. Since we already have passes, (gold) anyone know if we would have to go back through the processing line to get the new platinums or can they just print them.

Season Passes
About to buy Platinums for my family as we plan on doing a week long East coast park trip next summer and upon reading the website, I have to buy my 5 year old a adult pass as she is 49" tall? Her sister is 7 and 52" and her brother is 9 and is 54". Having to buy them all adult passes is kind of a let down. They aren't even teenagers! Anyone have experience with this?

Did some "field research" on Diamondback today.
I checked the Forecast last night and it was supposed to pour all day so we skipped going. Webcams show no one in the park or they are all hiding because it looks to be raining.

Same thing with the maintenance shed of Diamondback. Along with mini shampoo bottles, perfume and lotion.

KI just released a "Bring A Friend" special so I am sure that will bring up attendance a bit but I don't think it will be huge.

The park was DEAD. Even more after the rain. I was walking by Zephyr and heard the ride op say "For your safety and well, your safety..." There was only one girl riding it. It made me chuckle a bit. I would have busted your 21 rides had Diamondback not gone down at 6:30. While waiting I heard it was an issue with a restraint but it was from someone on a phone so who knows. Maintenance showed up, sent three empty trains and away we went. WindSeeker also was down later in the day. My son was upset he couldn't ride but has now taken a new liking to Delirium. Beast was walk on and rerides all day. Walked right in and rode 1-1 as well but unfortunately, it was around 6pm and the trims killed the ride. I don't think I have ever had them that bad. Hoping next Sunday is the same minus the rain. It made it a bit chilly with the addition of the wind. Guess it's time to start wearing pants and long sleeves to the park.

It felt the roughest in the back. Definitely vibration and shaking. Didn't keep track of which train I was on. The front is smooth as glass.

I talked to lots of kids today. I was wearing jean shorts, a grean shirt with a shaved head and a goatee. Met lots of people today. One was a couple that was there for their 13th wedding anniversary so they were going to ride Diamondback 13 times in a row to celebrate. Rerides were a must on everything today! Had two kids in front of me on one run and one of them lost a handful of runts on the way up the lift hill. As we were dropping down the first hill, a Lime one seemed to flaot right down beside me. I tried to grab it but it was just out of reach.

Since the crowds were beyond lite today, I decided to marathon Diamondback and sit in every row of the train. (some twice) I was going to try and ride in every seat of the train but the rain eventually got too heavy and decided every row was good enough. Maybe next week. My seat of choice has always been 1-3 so today was a good experience of getting to know the rest of the train. I discovered that there is a HUGE difference between the front and the back of the train. The airtime in the back is amazing. The forces also seem much greater. Getting pulled over the top of the hills and in and out of the turns is something you don't get in the front. The back of the train has a different "roughness" to it. Not that Diamondback is rough to begin with but you can feel more of the track in the back. The middle of the train is much less forceful and you just seem to "float". It's not so much "throw you out of your seat" airtime. A good place for beginners or those that aren't that into coasters. The front is great for viewing the ride and for "hanging" over the hills. The first drop is still amazing in row 1 or 2. I also discovered the hard way to NOT have your hands up while sitting in the last row and hitting the splashdown. The force of the water hurts when it hits your arms and you will get off looking like you wet yourself when it all runs down your arm and into your seat. I also discovered that some of the restraints lock in different locations than others. Usually, I have a few inches between my legs and the restraint allowing great airtime. Some of them locked lower squishing my legs. Sucked for airtime on those runs. Overall, It was a great day at the park after 19 runs on Diamondback and hitting almost all of the other rides in the park.

Intamin, Inc
You can't definitively say that it was a spike in attendance just because it was built by Intamin.I don't care who builds the ride, as long as its a good ride. I as well as most everyone else will ride it. The manufacturer does make a difference with how safe I feel while riding. A giga from any manufacturer would increase attendance. I am sure if you ask the average coaster rider, they wouldn't know who built what.

Smoothing vortex.
5-1 is DEFINATELY the way to tame The Vortex. My daughter loves it and wants to ride it over and over and 5-1 is the only way I can tollerate it. Even then, I still have to brace myself in the restraint to keep from getting banged around. It also seems to depend on how full the train is. (this could just be in my head though)

Season Passes
Didn't it say this last year as well? I never saw any 10% food discounts but ride photos and some other things that aren't owned by the park got the discount. My guess is that it's a play on words.
