I get why KIC wants us to capitalize trademarked names. I get why owners of trademarked names want to protect their trademarks. If there was rampant non-capitalization of names on here, I would get why CF would want something to be done about it. What I DON'T get, is why they would care if the occasional poster misspelled a CF trademarked name, or didn't capitalize the first letter of it. That is my question -- why would they care about that? Again, it's all a moot point now as the issue has been resolved quite creatively by KIC, which I am impressed by. Just clearing up the point I was making. I'll drop it for now, sorry for derailing the thread. Read the section about trademark infringement. It explains why all brands fight to keep their brand names. It's to prevent the dilution of the brand into a common name that is synonymous with the brand name. People are often sued for infringement of brand names. http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Trademarks Here are some pending trademark infringement cases. http://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Trademark+Infringement+Cases+2014&qpvt=trademark+infringement+cases+2014&FORM=EWRE The guys are only reinforcing the capitalization for protection of brand names and actually anyone who might infringe on a trademarked name. Protect yourself and the site by capitalizing trademarked names.....PLEASE! I appreciate the reply and actually read through your first link there the first time you posted it, which is why I posted what I did in the bold text above. Once again I apologize for the derailing the thread yet again, and will drop the topic as long as I don't get called out for something that was not my intention like LoraX did earlier.

I was going to let this topic die, but then I saw this post that is clearly directed towards me and had to address it. Terrible points all around. When it's important, the first letter of your name is capitalized, just like it is with KI attractions. On an internet message board though? I'm sure you've been called "lora" once or twice. It happens. It's an informal form of communication, people don't always use the best grammar/spelling/punctuation. I'm sure if I looked at your text messages, there'd at the very least be an occasional error here or there, right? Well message boards are traditionally about 1 step up from that as far as discussions go, on the formality scale. Where on earth did you get capitalizing trademarked names as being a "foreign concept" to me? I've said SEVERAL times that everyone should do it!!! I've also said that I understand why KIC is asking us to do it! I'm not arguing the rule! Where are you getting this from? I'm especially not arguing with KIC, even a little bit! The end of the 5th paragraph, I disagree. It IS about the occasional slip-up. Out of every 100 times an attraction was referenced on here, maybe a couple times was one not capitalized. As far as intentional misuse, the only time I saw that was when someone unintentionally forgot to capitalize a name and got a response from Interpreter, and then to be a smart-alec they would do it intentionally, which I am certainly opposed to and think is WAY out of line. If you're asked to do something, DO IT! It's a PRIVILEGE to post on this website, not a right! So follow the rules! What I disagree with the most is you thinking that me asking "why?" is a sign of disrespect to KIC. ONCE AGAIN, I FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY KIC WANTS US TO CAPITALIZE TRADEMARKED NAMES! I've only posted that like 10 times now, yet you STILL think I'm "debating" the rule with KIC? Why is that? I haven't been doing that at all! To your last paragraph, what I find even more sad is when you are told to do something and others tell you that you shouldn't ask why. This is America, we'd still be a British colony if we did what we were told without asking "why?"

Really, it doesn't matter why. As the owner of the intellectual property in question, Cedar Fair has the right to impose conditions on its usage. They've been generous enough to allow us to use their intellectual property with very few restrictions. For those still curious as to why Cedar Fair might care, read the past several pages of this topic. Many members, most notably Terp, have given numerous very good reasons. Cedar Fair has a legal obligation to its unitholders to preserve the value of its intellectual property. With trademarks, this value includes both exclusive use and goodwill. The company must ensure that entities allowed to use their intellectual property - including KICentral - are not hurting its brand(s) or contributing to the genericization of its trademark(s). To you it might not matter why, but some of us are curious.People have given reasons, none of which I would consider to be "good" reasons for this specific issue being discussed. Your last paragraph, I get all that. Makes a ton of sense to me. But for them to care about a capitalization error here or there on an internet message board just seems excessive to me. If there was rampant misuse of their trademarks on here, I would understand. But the ocassional non-capitalization of rides? Come on. It's all a moot point anyway since it appears that it is now impossible to not capitalize ride names on here, which is a smart move by KIC. But it's a message board. I'm here for discussion. My biggest problem is with the people that say "just do it, it doesn't matter why." Why can't we just talk about it? I will leave you with this: Terms of Service. If that doesn't satisfy your quest for why, please contact Dane or any other site admin.I get that you're inquisitive, I am too....but it's at the point now, we need to move on. Dane and his team have updated the TOS to reflect the stance on the issue. It has been explained why many times but the answer isn't good enough for some people. As a user of this free "anonymous" message board, you agree to the TOS. If you do not follow them, you are at risk for suspension/termination of your account, etc by Dane and his team. To quote the TOS on trademarks, etc, everyone here has agreed to them by signing up for an account and/or continuing to use their account: If there are any questions from this point, they should be directed to Dane and his staff. Back to Banshee construction progress, we've seen one picture of the ride envelope on the track, do you think there will be any more of that happening? Will we see a pull through? I know we've recently not seen a lot via B&M on the subject of pull-throughs, but was just wondering. You, as many others have too for some reason, have completely missed the point of my posts. I fully, 100% understand why KIC has asked people to capitalize trademarked names, and think that they should continue to do so. I completely support them in their efforts to enforce that rule, and will adhere to it without complaint. That is not what I have been asking questions about.Edit: I apologize for the long post, I would delete out some of the quoted text but I'm on my iPad and that task is a pain!

Yep, that is pretty dang cool!

Just out of curiosity.... Invertigo bat The Bat Banshee Adventure Express racer The Racer Flight of Fear Firehawk Vortex beast The Beast Diamondback Delirium Drop Tower monster scrambler WindSeeker That's some pretty cool technology! Well done, KIC!

Like I said it definitely was capitalizing Don yesterday. I even made a post about it, in this thread. BB1 also had a post with the word don't automatically capitalize. I guess they are still working out the kinks. Terrific idea though.
-
It's for all rides too, I believe. It also automatically capitalizes Don. You can't even use the word don't without the D automatically being capitalized. Now hopefully all this discussion can be put to rest! Edit: apparently the don't thing is no longer the case, haha. It definitely was yesterday though.

Again, I get why KIC is requesting and enforcing such a rule. They should, they're protecting themselves. I just don't get why Cedar Fair would care if a pre-teen created a username, logged on and asked a question about "Vortexx" on here.
-
Protection from what? Some 14-year-old logging onto a message board and typing pirehawk instead of Firehawk jeopardizes what about Cedar Fair's property, exactly? That's all I'm asking. Again, I capitalize what we're supposed to and think everyone should be doing the same, and will do so without complaint, but I will also continue to wonder why.

In that society, roller coasters, amusement park attractions and amusement parks themselves Don't exist. It is the human mind that asks the question "why?" and challenges the status quo, that allows KI to exist in the first place and, subsequently, this website. So again, forgive me for asking "why?" What is the problem with asking "why?"

My issue is not with KIC or the posters asking for people to capitalize the names of attractions; it's with Cedar Fair for caring at all about whether names of attractions are capitalized on a free public anonymous message board. That's about the most casual form of conversation that exists on this planet these days. I personally ALWAYS capitalize them and try to use the proper names of attractions because we have been asked to do so. When I first started posting and posted my initial TR, I used former attraction names (because I literally did not know the new ones since I hadn't been to KI in 7+ years), and I will not be doing that anymore because we have been asked to use the proper names with proper capitalization. I even went back before I hit "post" and replaced the word "ride" with "attraction" -- when I originally typed this out, everywhere you see "attraction" I originally used "ride" -- because I think that's the word that they want me to use. Additionally, I capitalize the names of attractions anyway because I try to ALWAYS use appropriate spelling, grammar and punctuation, even in an EXTREMELY informal setting like this, because I think it makes a poster come across as being more intelligent when they do so. However, I can understand why SO many people don't. It's a message board. 99% of message boards don't have rules about punctuation. Maybe even 99.9%. So it is to be expected that many will not properly capitalize the names of rides attractions, because I think a lot of people aren't used to having to follow such rules on other boards that they may post on. My other issue is with the people who say "they tell us to do it so you should just do it". Ok, yeah, I'm going to do it because they tell us to do it, but you have to also understand that it's human nature to question the way things are, and why. I think most people want to know why they are asked to do something, especially something that is a bit out of the ordinary, instead of just blindly following instructions. So forgive me (and others) for questioning why we are being asked to capitalize the names of rides. I'm not doing so to be confrontational, I'm doing so because I want to understand why that is the case. Because right now, I can't for the life of me understand why Cedar Fair would care about the names of their attractions being capitalized or not on a free public anonymous internet message board. I'm sure there's a good reason, I just can't figure it out on my own.

Waking the Fallen was huge for me as well. I would probably like them more if it weren't for the vocalist, I think he is terrible. Gates can shred though, he is awesome.

Good ole Avenged Selloutfold. Possibly my least favorite band going these days.

And I thank you for your contribution, I received about 15-20 blood transfusions in 2011 and wouldn't be here today if it weren't for people like you!

Move One Ride from Anywhere in the Country to KI

Could have fooled me, the layouts seem identical to me! Shockwave is definitely different though. -
Yes! Another metal head on KIC!

With regards to capitalizing the first letter of the names of rides on a free, public anonymous internet message board, where anyone can sign up and say anything? I'm not buying it. This guy gets it.
-
Bingo. I personally couldn't care less about theming on the ride itself, but queue theming goes a long way for me. After all, the line is going to be hours long, it would be nice to have some cool theming as a distraction for at least a portion of that wait.
-
Fair enough, but it's an anonymous public internet message board. I don't want to say anything should be tolerated, because trolling, bullying, baiting, inappropriate content, etc. are serious matters, but trying to enforce (maybe "enforce" is the wrong word; "persuade" might be better) people to capitalize ride names seems excessive. I can't for the life of me see the harm in someone typing out Vortex instead of Vortex.
-
If failing to capitalize the names of rides is being scrutinized, then so should any abbreviations, the use of unofficial names, and any name ride that doesn't have the little TM next to it for "trademark".
-
Please stop trolling. Thanks!

Thanks. Didn't realize it opened in '92, I actually thought it was older than that.

Alright, that's getting annoying.
