Agreed. Going down that hill, it's going to feel like we're going a lot faster than on a coaster like Diamondback. It's going to be thrilling seeing the ground coming so fast at you.
-
So I'm guessing Zeus isn't the priority right now. No progress (that we can see) has been made today in assembling it.
-
Yep. And now they're attaching a piece of track to it.
-
It's just the perception you get from a very tall object. Everything else is shorter, so the shadows look different. The shadow matches the angles of all the other shadows. (I know, I have too much time on my hands :/) They are now attaching the piece of drop track that separates from the backbone to the rest of the backbone.
-
Guys, I don't think that's the backbone installed. I think that's the shadow from the crane's boom,
-
I think you're right. I don't know what that is, but I don't think that's the backbone installed. The backbone goes here, in the long rectangular-shaped footer, and it's the only one in that area shaped like this. You can see it clearly in the webcam.
-
Wow, I think you're right! Totally didn't even see that. It looks to be in the exact place for that backbone footer.
-
Agreed. They'll probably put the backbone up first, and then connect the piece in-between the backbone and the completed bottom of the drop section.
-
The part in red is what I'm guessing is being constructed now on the ground. The part in green is the bottom of the drop that's already completed.
-
Well, the piece that was laying on its side here is now missing. It's the piece of the drop in which the track separates from the backbone. I'm guessing they're building that section of the drop now (backbone and separation from it into the bottom of the drop)
-
And that scenario will likely be a lot more common on Orion, due to the bottom of the first drop being lower to the ground than Diamondback’s, and Orion is quite a bit closer to the river. And then you have the little stream too, that will add moisture to the air.
-
They’re working late today. The crane’s still going.
-
I would guess the crane being assembled now is a lot taller than the crane that was used to build Banshee. According to the specs someone here posted, the crane being assembled now can reach over 360 feet. Clifford wasn't that tall.
-
-
With Clifford, the whole thing was red. Base, boom, all of it. This isn't the same crane.
-
That's what I was thinking. Maybe they're about to start that, too. Spine on that piece wasn't thick enough to be lift hill.
-
T-Bone looks like he's about to move another track piece.
-
There's the Kings Island PR team out there touring some more. They're over by T-Bone at the moment.
-
I'm imagining work is about to become fast and furious this week. They don't want those cranes on-site any longer than they have to be because they're super expensive. I have a feeling the next week or two will be ridiculous in how much progress is made.
-
Is that one of the cranes coming in? Or a part of one?
-
I'm guessing the supports laying on the ground as is are not complete. I'm guessing both legs will each have an additional section bolted on to make them the correct height.
-
I think it actually makes sense to have buildings there, if "Area 72" is supposed to be a secret research base.
-
Is this some kind of massive washout from the rain? Edit: Nevermind, that's a darn tree. wth. Cleo is on the move.
-
So it looks like a bunch of posts glued or bolted together, that fit like floor tile or puzzle pieces. Each post is 12x12 inches. Those things are THICK.
-
Yep. Once the big cranes come in, they'll work incrementally on both sides until they meet at the top with the "key stone" - the top of the lift hill. It will be the final piece that will lock everything together structurally. So is something like this what they're laying down as the ground pad? https://www.sterlingsolutions.com/product/crane-mats/
