Yep. There aren't many cranes in the world tall enough to work on TTD's 420' top hat. They're massive. Thus, they're expensive to rent. Any work on the tower short of maintenance tasks like repainting would require cranes of that size to be brought in. Be that adding to the height, taking away height, re-tracking it, or removing it. If they're already going to the expense of bringing in the extremely expensive and hard to schedule cranes, it would seem to make more sense to just tear down the entire top hat. But that's the most valuable part of the structure, at which point, what's the benefit over removing the ride entirely? All the ride really is, is some shuttle track on the ground to get you around, the launch, and the top hat. Keeping the top hat necessitates keeping the launch, and almost vice versa. The hydraulic launch system is notoriously unreliable overall, and has been a safety issue from the start. Replacing that with the LSMs many of us suspect will be installed would do wonders for safety and reliability. That's a notable change in the ride experience, even more with the new trains to go along with it. There's always the chance of the ride being expanded, but the most likely scenario is a full upgrade of the electrical and mechanical systems (control system, launch mechanism, etc.). Modifying the top hat requires similar expense to just removing the ride entirely and wouldn't significantly improve the ride experience. It's not a detriment to the ride. The structure overall isn't a safety or reliability issue thus not a top priority for investment. Everything else is.

Interesting - would've expected something like that but I was unaware of what exactly went into the buildings next to each launch for Maverick, WT, etc. My main point was that if they're going with another launch, they'll need a new energy storage system of some sort. That will likely require extensive modification or replacement of the existing hydraulic motor building.

An LSM launch with a new control system and other new mechanical systems (e.g. brakes), and of course new or at least modified trains to match, would go a long way to improving both safety and reliability. That is, so long as an LSM launch would be powerful enough to get the train up to speed in time. Safety issues basically all come from the hydraulic launch, with the enormous tension on the steel cable being a huge one - early on, there were cable snaps that injured riders. The flag plate that broke off may well not have been necessary if the trains themselves were better designed with areas detectable by the proximity switches. Then there are other things they seem to constantly need to address such as the retractable brakes not functioning properly. Those could get upgraded to a more reliable system. Any additions to the course would be a bonus, though there's not really any room to add on unless they were to remove something else. They could reasonably complete a comprehensive gut and replacement of the mechanical and control systems, including the launch, in the 2022-2023 off-season. That said, we don't know when management decided on the refurbishment they did, when they signed the contracts, and how long it will take the relevant vendors to get the components ready and installed. Especially with the ongoing supply chain nightmare. Basically, don't expect to see TTD reopen before 2024, until the park says otherwise.

The most you could expect to get through a lawsuit is a refund, likely minus attorney fees. Has anyone tried, oh, I dunno, complaining to the park and requesting a refund because they feel the product has been devalued below their expectations? Pretty important first step before anyone starts talking about lawsuits and what "the courts may see"...

Why another air launch when even S&S offers LSM launches these days? No matter which way they go, if they're keeping the TTD likeness and theme as they imply, and thus a launch, expect to see an all new electrical controls system. With that, it'll likely have new PLCs, perhaps a new braking system, definitely a new launch system is likely. To go with the new launch system, expect them to take inspiration from Holiday World's Will Power building for Thunderbird. That is, a flywheel or similar system to build up the energy to power a launch over time, instead of the instantaneous demand on the grid like WT did, and like Maverick still does. The current (former?)hydraulic system acts like this, building pressure over time instead of requiring FirstEnergy provide the instantaneous load needed for a launch. If they don't do that, the increase to the park's electrical bill, added to all the costs of the refurbishment they seem to be doing, and the cost would be prohibitive. The bulk of the structure will likely remain. Unsure about the station staying put. The name and theme are likely to stay the same, meanwhile much of the rest will likely be gutted and replaced. The cost just to bring in cranes tall enough to hack off the top of the tower would likely be prohibitive; at that point they likely would just tear down the whole topcoat while they're at it... Side note: Freep (their domain is freep.com) doesn't understand that the ride isn't being scrapped altogether...

Also, "Top Thrill Dragster, as you know it, is being retired". Not "Top Thrill Dragster is being retired. A new ride experience will open in the future." If the words were chosen carefully, it is evident that Top Thrill Dragster, the name and its corresponding theme, is not being retired. Interesting. Very, very interesting. Did not expect them to go this route, but it'll be interesting to see what they have in store.

Sounds like y'all aren't feeling as prestigious as the price tag suggested... This could quickly backfire on them.

OP is asking about all season FLP, not the promo to get a one day FLP wristband with a new/renewed pass, thus that's what I was referring to. Fast Lane (Plus) and Fright Lane are two different products, sold separately. All season FLP does not include Fright Lane; you'd have to buy that separately. All season FLP is valid during Haunt, for FLP, not for Fright Lane. Any renewal bonuses are subject to the terms offered by each park. I wasn't aware of any parks allowing the renewal bonus to be used toward Fright Lane, but I haven't been keeping track. Where have you seen that?

The reason why Fright Lane is excluded is that's a different product. You can get one, the other, or both (or neither!). Otherwise, it's good every operating day of the season it's issued for until they change the terms.

Thus my confusion. One wonders if a dispute arose between ownership and Kings Island management that led to this as a result of the park's handling of previous... situations. But that's all just speculation.

Just seems weird to me. I've never seen any of these as teasers, just someone having fun with decorating the park. Often making references to things that exist elsewhere. But some want to find hidden meaning (i.e. teasers) in everything.
