Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare New in 2026
MaestroJr replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Quick question I was going through the photos on KIC history page of Phantom Theater displays at Haunt and came across this photo of a Vulture, Credit to Tomb Raider, I always thought that was from The Beastie but that looks an awful lot like the Vulture we currently have on Phantom Theater ON, is this vulture from Phantom Theater originally? -
Super cool photos, I figured it was an original, I thought since they already have these busts their was no need to re create them when they already look alright, I wonder if they plan on using the other ones

Besides the fact that the Flash Powder barrel is still used at the exit for The Beast, these are the current original Phantom Theater props still being used in new Phantom Theater Opening Nightmare. 1. Balcony where maestro stands 2. Ride system and Cars for the ride 3. 99 % sure that Wall bust near the electrician is an original Phantom Theater queue prop 4. The ledge where maestro pulled back the curtain at the beginning of the ride may still be there but currently their is a curtain there blocking it, the candles at the end of the ride were original candles and they were removed during remodeling this year for the new ride. 5. The Chandeliers in the queue are originals and they are also retrofitted this year with additional lights to simulate lighting that’s all I can think of for now be sure to let me know if you guys have more.

Got two rides in today and absolutely exceeded my expectations, I want to thank Six Flags, Sally, and Kings Island for making this all happen, briefly wanted to share my pros and cons of the new ride and Share a few photos from the ride, I plan on many many more rides this summer. Also got a super smooth ride on The Beast so shoutout to the retracking crew for doing a superb job. Phantom Theater Pros: Soundtrack and Toccata is back Facade and Queue is outstanding with the spooky theme All the animatronics are amazing simply put New life has been breathed into the building especially when entering the loading area with the lighting windows Cons: The wait time was ridiculous for a ride that has a tried and true loading process Some effects are cheap and carried over from Boo Blasters like Larry on the turntable and the Bosco door Not sold on the interactive aspect 100 percent, I like it but think it could be better, maybe it’ll grow on me Some of the animatronics have a goofy look that fights with their scary original Overall a phenomenal addition to Kings Island for families and friends to ride for years to come and a worthy successor and tribute to original Phantom Theater and so, so much better than Boo Blasters, could not be happier to have Phantom Theater back at the park.

Two of them were displayed three years ago for PT Encore so I would assume they are still in good condition and the other two were left in the wall presumably until they were removed last year, I’m 99 percent sure that the is the original one that wasn’t displayed for PT Encore but was left in Boo Blasters until the new ride -

I for one am hoping that they bring back in an on ride photo of sorts, I think that is a nice souvenir that is something you can take with you for cheap -

I hope they really milk the hell out of this ride with merchandise ,it would be cool to have a Maestro talking Christmas ornament to compliment my haunted mansion Christmas ornament -

I still can’t stress enough how much of a missed opportunity not having a first rider event is for phantom theater, I would argue that this would be the biggest amount of money raised for charity for any of these events we’ve done in the past given the immense amount of fans that the ride has young and old and not to mention it provides us super fans a first ride on the ride and gives us a chance to really take it all in and also donate money to a great cause. I don’t know what the reason would be not to do a ride auction unless they are running on a tight schedule and don’t think it’ll be ready on time or possibly they think it’ll be finished at the very last minute but I was really hoping by now they’d have announced an event because I had such a blast at the Mystic Timbers auction, and I feel this auction would be much more lucrative but that’s just me -
I just like audio feedback, to me when you fire a “gun” it should make noise, makes it more realistic I suppose and yes I wondered the same thing I for sure would’ve bought a blaster, maybe they are going to be reused for other boo blasters in the US?
-
The biggest mistake of boo blasters is muting of the blasters, does anyone know why they were muted, that was a small but hugely important effect ruined
-
I’m sure somewhere it’s on YouTube if you look at old ride povs and park visits, I can’t find a picture anywhere I’ve looked everywhere, theirs no boo blasters construction photos I can find anywhere either, surely somewhere a picture of them in the queue is available, their isn’t too many photos of the queue, especially back then when smart phone cameras sucked

where at? -
If it’s not open for opening day that’ll be a big wasted opportunity, I also think not having a first rider event is a shame too considering it’s a good way to give money to charity and also give hardcore fans a first chance at riding
-
I agree I really hope they have one as I could ride phantom theater all day long!
-
I doubt very seriously they are going to do a first ride event, I was so hoping they would but at this point I think something like that would’ve already been announced which is a shame because I really enjoyed the Mystic Timbers auction and had a lot of fun at that event

posted on KI instagram page, confirms that fan reception to the show gave the park the green light to return the long missed phantom theater to it’s rightful place, we in the community should pat our self on the back for this because we made it happen! -
I agree I also hope it isn’t too cartoonish as the original theme was “scary” but fun but I hope the new one keeps the scary theme and doesn’t get too cartoonish, hope it’s like the haunted mansion, Also curious how the interactive element will work
-
Just trying to get the pulse for how excited we all are for the new opening attraction our beloved new phantom theater. Are you A. Super excited and can’t wait B. Excited but cautious, slight worry about how “cheap” it’ll be C. Sorta excited but deep down you know it won’t be as good as Original Phantom D. Neutral/Not excited or even maybe prefer Boo Blasters or Scooby I myself would choose B as while I am extremely excited and I hope that this ride blows me away I am slightly concerned that they will re use too many boo blasters elements or potentially the that new “flashlights” won’t work for long periods of time like the blasters, having said that I believe even a decent Phantom Theater ride is better than Boo Blasters any day of the week! Let me know what you think guys

I think they definitely should bring the bust back that’s a haunted mansion classic staple that works great for Disney and Kings Island in its effect and it’s a cheap effect too
