RaptorGuy Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 After riding Son of Beast for the first time since its "re-birth", I thought, they should have just given it a new name, as making it a reference to The Beast really isnt appropriate any longer. Also, with all they did to it, if they would have renamed it, I would have felt justified and making it a new coaster on my coaster count list. If anyone has any cool names that they think would be cool, feel free to respond. This is just for fun, I'm sure it won't get renamed, but if they did, what would you like to see it called? I think a good one would be Rolling Cyclone. As that is what it feels like you're riding when riding it! Also, our friends in Jersey may find that amusing Quote

Forget "any longer". When was the reference to Beast appropriate at all? The ride known as SoB is an insult to a ride that put KI on the map. It really is too bad that such a great legacy has been tainted. Quote
Dvo Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 ^Amen. As for a new name... how bout one of these: Bonecrusher The Punisher Rib Smasher Knee Knocker Body Bruiser The Fairly Odd Not-fun coaster Terrible Rampaging Illegitimate Child of Beast Pain County, USA Quote
TH13TEEN Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 my post erlier i was some what scared but here it is Son of Crap Quote
KIBeast Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Too true, tggr, that the name has never really been appropriate. They only share the helices in common. SOB needs a tunnel. How about Son Of Pain? Quote
Nate Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Rib Smasher That's the name right there. Rib smashing is what happened when I didn't ride in the front seat of the blue train. If you don't ride it Exactly right that is. Still my favorite as I always ride it smoothly. Quote
DeLorean Rider Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Also, with all they did to it, if they would have renamed it, I would have felt justified and making it a new coaster on my coaster count list Are you kidding, a new ride. All they did was do some re-tracking which is done on every wooden coaster, at least once a week while I worked at beast would we open late because they were re-tracking some portion of the ride. Do you count Beast as a new ride every time you ride it? In addition Son of Beast has been retracked many times before and no one has added tallys to their list. New trains; rides have made modifications to the trains before, FOF changing their restraints had a bigger impact on ride experience than the new trains on SOB had. Is FOF a new ride since 2001? As for the removal of the loop, things like that happen. Hell look at The Racers, those started out with an extra bunny hill and both trains forward. I doubt people that have been riding it in 1972 count: Forward on forward side with bunny hill Forward on fordard side without bunny hill Forward on backwards side with bunny hill Backwards on backwards side with bunny hill Backwards on backwards side without bunny hill As 5 different roller coasters. If you're that desperate to add to your track list, then you need to get out more. In addition changing the name would be stupid because reguardless of positive or negative publicity for Son of Beast, it is STILL publicity. Tons of people come to Kings Island and know of Son of Beast "the worlds tallest, fastest, and first looping coaster." Changing the name would produce way too much bad publicity for the park to justify. Quote
KIBeast Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 ^ We generally call those people "coaster credit whores". Although, it seems like FOF was a new ride when they switched the trains from OSTR's to lap bars. Quote

Debt..The Ride SpineTingler Ruptured Disc ( Do Chiropractic Centers Sponsor this Ride??? ) ..of course I'm kidding Quote
Dvo Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 .... In a recent press release, Kings Island has revealed that it intends to change the name of the Son of Beast roller coaster to Son of Beast?????? Sorry. Doesn't make sense. Quote
welchce Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Implies roughness but still has the tie to The Beast: "Wrath of Beast" Either that or "Next Stop : Hospital" Quote
DropZone99 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Why does everyone hate SOB??? It's the best roller coaster at KI, im going to start making fun of IJST, and keeping annoying everyone about how it is the worst ride ever not only because it ruined Coney Mall, it also hurt me really bad when i ride it. If you don't like SOB keep it to your self, some people find SOB as a great ride. Quote
welchce Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 If you don't like SOB keep it to your self, some people find SOB as a great ride. I always find it funny when on a forum someone tells someone else to keep something to themselves. It kinda goes against the entire purpose for having a forum. Quote

standbyme Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I'm going to start making fun of IJST, and keeping annoying everyone about how it is the worst ride ever... Good Luck trying to find anyone that you would truly annoy by knocking IJST! As for your "Why does EVERYONE hate SOB?" comment...doesn't it tell you something about the ride when even you notice that most people don't like it?! (Do you think that "everyone" is posting negative comments just to annoy you...quite a conspiracy theory.) If you like SOB more power to you...and great health insurance. As for a new name, an appropriate name would be: "Closed For Repairs". Quote
Changmanky Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 just so you know thrill biscuit-Hard Rock park does plan on having a ride called "Crazy Train". It will be their 1st "Woodie". Of what porportion is left to be seen. Quote
Browntggrr Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 This will probably be the last time I suggest that a ride is named after a movie. Along the lines if Universal purchased the park: The Money Pit. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091541/ Quote
Browntggrr Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 If you don't like SOB keep it to your self, some people find SOB as a great ride. Well if you want to take that avenue, and since most of the population of the planet Earth dislikes SoB... If you like SoB keep it to yourself, most people find SoB as a terrible ride. Quote

Nate Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Actually SOB is a very sad story. It was just not built well. The most prolific roller coaster designer ever made the blueprints then a company with very little experience (roller coaster corp. of America) built it. Roller coaster corp of America only built one other wooden roller coaster and it sucked too! I forget the name but I just saw it yesterday and could get back to you. It was ALSO plagued with maintainece problems and needed to be re-designed after only a couple years. I WONDER why SOB has problems.... coincidence? If I had 3 wishes for KI: 1. SOB was built by a better company 2. Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal was brought back instead of TR:TR 3. Food was better and REASONABLY PRICED. Quote
The Interpreter Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Ummmm..... RCCA did NOT build Son of Beast. It was slated to, but a subsidiary, the Ohio Coaster Corporation began building it, when suddenly Paramount Parks took over as general contractor. Many attribute the problems with Son of Beast to the building job done by Paramount Parks. And RCCA was responsible for seven coasters, including Son of Beast, according to http://www.rcdb.com : http://www.rcdb.com/ir.htm?contact=114 And yet, on Son of Beast's own rcdb page, we find RCCA as co-designer, with Paramount's Kings Island as the builder: http://www.rcdb.com/id584.htm See also the park's OWN fact sheet, where IT says Paramount's Kings Island was the builder: http://www.rcdb.com/document31.htm Quote

Remember the old baby carriage on the coaster track pictures? Quote
