Ki Man
So yeah, I know DZ had been closed since the 17th; I was there when it happened! But yesterday I was at the park and saw DZ right at the checkered area between the red and yellow section. I got off B. Racer and saw the cables twisted out and around and the carrier in the red section. Scary sight! Seeing it like this was really creepy. The cables weren't swaying in the wind like they were loose or something...they weren't moving at all. KI "" Man
DeLorean Rider
It would appear that the cables are not equal on the left as the right. Looks like the right side needs to be tightened up a bit .
Browntggrr
Well, that is just not good. I can't imagine the catch car having too much freedom to become that unbalanced without considerable damage. Any bets that it doesn't operate again in 2007? Fearthetiger
Very scary indeed, something is wrong with this ride but not only with the cables. My wife and kids rode on it with some friends of ours Friday and the restraints didn’t open after the ride was over. It took four engineers thirty minutes to finally manually release the riders from captivity. I like the Drop Zone but a complete top to bottom inspection needs to be made before letting anyone else risk their lives.
DeLorean Rider
Whenever there is a problem with a ride, the safest place is in the restraints (other than maybe the midway), especially if the ride is not moving. Usually if the restraints will not open it is because of a safety system of the rides. If you're on a ride such as DZ, TRTR, Delerium, etc. you're not going to be in danger if you're in the seat. Fearthetiger
I agree but many small problems on one ride could show signs of a bigger problem with that ride. It is always better to be safe then sorry later. One more note, it may be safer to be stuck in the restraints but it is still hard and/or scary for the people stuck. One little girl was crying her eyes out because she was petrified she was never going to get out.
teenageninja
Drop Zone is probably the safest ride in the park to be honest. The magnetic breaks guarentee that it is not going to hit the ground. That's pretty bad that Drop Zone just had it's cable replaced and they are already ruined. Oh well, looks like I'm not riding it when I go. Dvo
^They guarantee that, eh? I'm going to have to go ahead and say no to that. They're safe, no doubt about it. But there's never a "guarantee" that brakes are going to work properly. Right, Magnum XL-200?
Reclaimer
And now you're comparing apples to oranges. Magnum does NOT have magnetic breaks.

Earth magnets cannot loose their magnetism, simple as that so, yes they guarententee that.
Dvo
^magnets decay over time.
DeLorean Rider
Actually rare-earth magnets, such as the ones in Drop Zones brakes, are considered perminant and as long as they aren't exposed to excessive electromagnetic fields or extremem heat, they will retain their strength forever with no loss of strength.
teenageninja
Even if they do "lose" some of their power I'm sure there is some absurd factor of safety built into the design of the ride to insure it doesn't plummet to the ground. Apples to oranges on the Magnum deal, last time I checked magnets work just as well when wet.

I'm not sure if you've seen it up at UC, Uncle, but there's a car I've seen parked in University Avenue Garage with the license plate "PWND LOL" I'm starting to think it's yours... PKIVortex
Actually I think that happned on the 18th. I rode DZ 2 times on the 17th. However the ride was up and down a few times through out the day, and wasn't open at all at 11am.
Cody
I think they need to go inside the tower and one of the pullies inside the tower might have broke, or a cable got jammed inside somewhere. It looks like it happend from inside the tower, cause I cant see something on the outside that could of cause this.
PKIVortex
Sounds like to me though that Drop Zone may be done for 2007. Unless they are trying to fix it as we speak? That sucks though to have 2 major rides down.

I always figured they posted more often than not since they're clearly not out there keeping the major attractions operating. PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!! AZ Kinda Guy
You would have "PWNED!!!!!" me if Drop Zone was actually one of the rides I work on.

WooferBearATL
Seems like no one's doin a lot of work on Drop Zone. <G> Seriously, considering Drop Zone is such a great ride, I hope that the problems get worked out.
