deb Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 My hubby rode DUT a few times this past year and got stuck every time. The one time I rode it, back in 94, I think, I almost drowned. deb
Jeffy Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 DUT stands for Down Under Thunder, one of the original sets of slides in Boomerang Bay: Many people complain of its age and that it is not a very comfortable slide nor has it received TLC In awhile and has been rumored to be removed for some sort of new attraction in the waterpark possibly for 2008. I personally dont know if its a good slide or not, I havent ridden it since I was probably 8 years old. The last time I rode it was Summer of '07. The slide needs to be rehabbed or removed. The abrasions that the slide has practically stops your forward progress.
JjAmSaOnN Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 wasn't DUT originally called Sidewinder (or something close to that) ?
TOPGUN1993 Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Down Under Thunders old name was "the Helix" Sydney Sidewinders old name was just "sidewinder"
westcoaster Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Can't you recoat the slides to keep it around longer the beach and surf cincinnati had old old attractions???? heck water slides in and around the smokies are very very OLD!!! and I feel there not going to take anything out of the water park Really theyve' only taken one ride out in its history correct??? Would'nt it be neat to do a water park tribute page???eventually down the road kind of like the coney site? also Could there be a page on here devoted to all rides taken out one picture of it and its stats and start date and finish date???
coaster_junky Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 also Could there be a page on here devoted to all rides taken out one picture of it and its stats and start date and finish date??? i don't know if it has its stats or date of start and finish but go to photo gallery and scroll down to defunct rides but i don't know if that will help you with all you want
cstrwomann Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 They are good water slides but the water pressure is too slow. I got stuck on them this year. I hope they keep them and turn up the water.

When Surf cincy closed, the beach bought a few of their old slides and currently use them in the winter for their taboganing atraction, which i feel is the most terrifying thing ive ever been on. Today Surf Cincinnati's slides are in pretty bad shape... I dont think you could slide down those easily.
JacksonPKI Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Could the same thing happen this year? No.
marlfox_21 Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 It's been a while since I have really had a chance to read anything on this site. So this is my 1st 2008 possibilities forums to have visited. That being said, ( since maybe this has been said before, but if so I have not seen it ) Does anyone think that the park could be getting anything else from the the late G. Lake?
KIBeast Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Seems like Geauga Lake is the newest "Flea Market" for amusment parks. Everyone jumping over each other to get the goods for nothing!! If that park was such a dump that no one wanted to go, then why does everyone want their old rides? The best ride I was on there was The Villian, and I think somebody already has dibs on that one!!! OK, I'll bite. Who has dibs on The Villain?
The Interpreter Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 According to recent news articles posted, no one. It was for sale with a well known Canadian ride broker, as were Raging Wolf Bobs and Big Dipper. None of the three sold. So now they are all three listed with another broker.
The Interpreter Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 And I hope it is sold to someone who will relocate it to another park, preferably in the USA or Canada, who will take care of it and run it as Mr. John Miller intended... Remember, it could be sold to someone who has no such intentions. One must be careful what one wishes for.
JacksonPKI Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 someone who won't take care of it, like Six Flags?
The Interpreter Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 someone who won't take care of it, like Six Flags? Ahem. Exactly what do you base this senseless comment on? Please name every historical wooden coaster that Six Flags has demolished or sold. Psyclone doesn't count. And what wooden coasters at Six Flags have you ridden that in your expert opinion are not well maintained? And what is the basis of your expert opinion? I thought so.
ragerunner Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Actually, I think Viper at SFGA is one of the best maintained coasters in the US. I have always been amazed how smooth it runs.
The Interpreter Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 I assume you mean Six Flags Great America! (SFGA for us old timers is always Six Flags Great Adventure...to be kind to younguns, I always refer to either SFGAd or SFGAm...) By the way, Viper at SFGAm was designed and built in house!
Browntggrr Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 someone who won't take care of it, like Six Flags? Ahem. Exactly what do you base this senseless comment on? 13 solid years of being on planet Earth of course! Who could argue such a reputable track record as that?
CoastersRZ Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Exactly the point. You can`t single out Six Flags for not caring for their rides and attractions if you have never been to a Six Flags park to experience their rides and attractions to see firsthand how well they maintain them.
JacksonPKI Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Sorry. Children Should Be Seen Not Heard
WooferBearATL Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Sorry. Children Should Be Seen Not Heard Well, when they're not locked in the basement! <G>
The Interpreter Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 not for me. I always get this stuff. Time for a little TQM wisdom; If all you ever do Is all you ever did, All you will ever get Is all you ever got. If you want a different result, do something differently.... Just a thought...
