Two Face Stalls at SFA

(for those who do not know, this is the same model Vekoma as is Face/Off):

The Washington Post (which may require registration), reports that this is the second time the coaster has stalled in the last month:

Riders were stranded 10 stories in the air yesterday on a roller coaster at the Six Flags America amusement park in Maryland for the second time in a month. When they were brought down in a "hard landing," a hydraulic line broke, spraying some, a Prince George's County rescue official said....

If look at the pic on the first link, it says it stalled on the lift. The video also said that the riders were stuck facing down (backwards), so it sounds like the brake stuck or something. So much for 4 secs!

And, wouldnt you know it, the media around here is showing all the pictures of the ride when it is upside down in an inversion. As if it was valleyed out, and even suggesting that riders were all upside down for two hours. Just crazy, to hear you local news man talk about how the train was stuck in an upside down state for two hours, and show still shots of a train from maybe three days ago passing through an inversion passing them off as not just a still, but what actually happened.

Makes me sick.

More, with video:

The video, on the right side of the screen, includes an excerpt from the 911 tape.

Okay, I've been waiting to see if anyone noticed, but no one did.

Go back and listen to that video again. Listen to where the guy says he is. And how incredulous the dispatcher seems. Yes, the accident occurred at Six Flags America...but the caller said he was at. . . .

And people wonder why I think Cedar Fair's strategy of NOT putting the corporate name on every park is a good one. . .(and naming Great America as Knott's Great America would have been a not good idea.. . .)

Face/Off models tend to stall every once and a while.

they do? has face/off ever stalled?

Yes, it has. But never with quite these results. I am quite sure Vekoma and all parks with these rides will follow this incident quite closely. There may even be some changes made to the hydraulic system to prevent this type of incident in the future.
