Rode SOB today. There was no braking before the former loop. My kids went nuts and the rest of the ride was much faster and better without the braking. You should have seen the look on the ride attendant's face when a 7-year old asked him if they took out the "Mid-course braking".... He said it was "turned off" for that ride. (Hmm?) I think that, without the loop, it isn't needed and it should be turned off permanently. The second half of the ride was faster and MUCH better.

When did the meaning of "pleasant experience" change to "an event involving severe pain"?

When did the meaning of opinion turn into fact. I THINK the ride is as good as it will get, and I think it is better without the loop. (I did love the loop though). It appears to be smoother. I think that a lot of people do not like SOB because they had a bad experience in the past. Or they have heard some one that did not like it.

I rode it twice today, and the brakes were on both times. At what time did you ride and the brakes being off?

I checked the time right after the ride because it was almost closing time, so I was very aware of the time. It was 6:23 when we got back onto the midway by EXtreme Skyflyer and Days of Thunder....... Then the traditional last ride on The Beast...

That's was a little before I rode. I rode for the second time around 6:45ish. As I had time to go and ride Face/Off twice before close. The brakes were definitely on when I rode.

I don't know. I'm 39 and have been riding coasters since I was tall enough, and I can honestly say that there was no braking.... My kids were raving about it before the end of the ride.....

Did your train not many other people in it? I'm not sure why that would happen. Maybe the computer thought the train was running too slow for whatever reason, so the breaks didn't kick on?

When Boddah and I rode during the first weekend of HH and on HH media night SOB was an awesome ride. We rode in the very last seat eeach time, got air going down the first hill, hill into the rose bowl, and off of the mid course turn.

ive only riden it once after it has been reopened, and it was the day it reopened, i remember the brakes not being used and the second half of the ride a little faster, too

Just rode SOB on Saturday. This is the first time for me with the new trains. All I can say is wow! Wish they would have done that sooner! That was by far the best ride I've had on it. Yeah, I kinda missed the loop, but it was well worth the trade off. Now, it could really use a tunnel where the old loop was. Trip Report coming.

Rode it Friday night and found it to be a lot more enjoyable, I actually got some air on the drop for the first time ever. The rose bowl was rough, but it always will be. I can say I finally enjoy the ride, the decreased capacity sucks though for sure.

And the ride attendant said "we turned it off for that ride".

Can brakes be turned on or off without reprogramming the ride? Seems like you would have to take the program that controls the blocks etc. and redo a portion of it.

SoB is a hit or miss, and usually random. My recent ride was in the second to last car, and I thought it felt smoother than the front. Felt some airtime on the first drop. SoB can be a really fun ride, if you choose a nice seat.

I rode Sonny-boy today. It was a good ride. Hard braking almost to a stop on the mid-coarse brakes, and I don't feel it needs all that. I'm still pushing for a tunnel too in the old loop spot. I been experimenting too and found for those who find the rose bowl kinda too hard, if you pull yourself forward just a little so your back is no longer against the back rest when your going in the bottom half of the rose bowl that it really isn't very painful at all. I have done it a few times now where I just lean forward with help of the hand bar infront of me at bottom of the rose bowl and ride becomes very enjoyable. One thing I will also say I really like about SOB is the first drop, thats a really nice drop and it is what keeps me coming back to ride it over and over again.

I would agree with that suggestion. That is exactly what I do too.
