masonguy21
Was THE CRYPT closed today??? I hope so because I was going to go to KI today just to ride it, but was too tired after physical therapy, so I stayed home. No it was open. It wasnt at first but then when it started to rain i guess they decided to open it so there whould be more rides for the few people that were in the park today. The Interpreter
And the very post in this thread noted that the poster rode it!
flightoffear4thtrain
i drove 2 hours from Indianapolis to go to ki for a couple of hours. We drove up at 6:50 and were told the park was closing at 7. We still got one ride on Delirium in though, it felt awful as the rain pelted us. Did anyone else notice that Delirium is kind of shaking at the top of its rotation. The day wasn't totally spoiled though, we drove to Jungle Jim's and checked out the former ki monorail. it is set to open this summer. Does anyone know why they have 7 trains, when it looks like they can only run one?

Kawana
If that's not your best day at the park, I'd hate to see it. You got 11 rides in in less than 8 hours. I only hit 9 or 10 and I spent all day at the park last Saturday. Good job, and lucky to be able to stay on Delirium like that.
CoastersRZ
As of right now, Jungle Jims will only operate one monorail train at a time. As Jungle Jims continues to expand and grow, they will add most track sections to the monorail, and likely at some point future stations. Once it becomes a complete circuit, they`ll be able to run more then one train. Also, don`t pass up a Coney relic inside the store. There are a couple old Coney Island bumper cars inside of the store, that are used as display stands. They are located near the singing Elvis, if my memory serves me right. WooferBearATL
I can't imagine that an announcement was not made. If AZ said one was made you can pretty much bet on it. Chances are that you those that did not hear the announcement, were on a ride at the time. Ya really can's blame the park for closing if few people are in the park. Cody
Only thing I dont like is they dont run all the rides in the rain. That really stinks; I would perfer Paramounts policy in this case. It sounded like a fun day overall tho. Just too bad it closed early and alot more things didnt open for ya.
The Interpreter
Paramount's policy was then. By now, Paramount may have had the same policy Cedar Fair now does. At one time, Cedar Fair was known for never running coasters in the rain (I distinctly remember standing around at Dorney Park in the rain in the late 1990's, looking at all the non-running coasters). Then they loosened up some...then the Magnum incident occurred, and the rain policy returned. There seemed to be some loosening for a while last summer, but apparently they are back to not running coasters in the rain again.
Cody
I dont really know if Paramount would of picked up on this policy(and we will never know now) I do recall that The Beast had two trains collided due to rain-related but paramount just replace those brakes with stronger ones. So in my eyes paramount would never picked up the rain policy. I just hope CF loosens up again and aloud all rides to run during rainy weather. thatbandguy8807
it also depends on how bad its raining. i know when i went to opening day that it was raining but not too hard so they kept the rides open. yesterday while driving in the rain, i noticed how strong it was coming down and thought of Kings Island closing the rides down until it softened up a little bit. some of the coasters i can agree on shutting down because of their speed. i remember one year a friend and i decided to see who could take more pain and so we decided to go 70 mph down the highway with it raining and we shoved our arms out of the car when it was storming...that hurt lol..but what im getting at is depending on some of the ride's speeds, it would hurt riding them in the rain if it was comming down strong enough
CoastersRZ
They did have the coasters running yesterday in the rain. Our final ride on The Beast was in a fairly steady rain, which made for a rather painful ride. However, the three coasters I rode yesterday, Backlot Stunt Coaster, Beast, and Red Racer were all running with one train operation. Even with that, the lines were still walk on, even at Beast. Browntggrr
No they don't close for weather apparently they close for low attendance. So the loyal few dedicated guests that drive 2+ hours or spend the money get screwed cause greedy Cedar Fair says it's not enough. From KI's website: Although it happens rarely, our schedule is subject to change without notice and we advise that you check the times on our website before you visit the park. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/visit/visit_calendar.cfm And do you really think that a person is going to drive 2+ hours and just go to the park at 4:00pm to 10:00pm when the forcast is for rain? You call it greed on CF's part, I call it ignorance on a person's part for not planning ahead.

Have fun! Browntigger you didn't read my full post. I only have a problem with CF policy on rain. I didn't say anything about KI geting ruined by CF or whatever. I rather enjoy the park in many different ways! One of my fav times to go to the park is when its rains, but thanks to CF, Im betting more half the rides wont even be open!I can have my 2 cents on what I think about this policy. You sir are just looking for an arguement.

No, I did read your full post. And it was just more of the same propoganda crap that you have spread here before. You enjoy jumping to conclusions (or spreading rumors) without an ounce of proof; a fact (do you know what that is?) that was well proven since other members were at the park and did ride coasters in the rain. So what is your beef? You sir are just looking for an arguement. Hey pot, the kettle is calling!
ohiocolts
Does closing early still ever happen? I never heard it would before.
The Interpreter
Yes. If weather or extremely low attendance justifies it, the park may close. Way to revive a really old thread!
IndyGuy4KI
I remember 2 years ago, a few Thursday evening Haunts that were on the calendar ended up not opening due to weather conditions.
TombRaiderFTW
I've been there when the park closed early due to weather. I believe it was in late summer 2010. They announce it over the park's speaker system.
