velvetpimp
Wanting to do something fun with the family on the 4th(have never been to KI on the 4th) and was wondering how crowded the park will be that day.I just know how packed the park can get, and with young ones those days normally are not too fun. PKIVortex
With the 4th being on a Friday this year, and all of the extra entertainment this year, I have a feeling the place will be pretty busy.
tigellinus
^^I concur, waits will average 1 and a half hours for the good stuff...
CoastersRZ
And you base that average wait time of an hour and a half on what exactly? While the park will likely be crowded, it would have to be fairly crowded for the average wait time of all the rides to be an hour and a half. velvetpimp
Have any of you been there on the 4th? I was also wondering if most people there will be picking out spots for the shows and fireworks and not actually riding that much. I think I may take the plunge and go, worst case scenario is we hang out in the pools at the waterpark to avoid the crowds till the fireworks. Avatar
I vowed to never go to an amusement park on the 4th of July anywhere. Well several years back my mother offered to watch our daughter and my wife said she wanted to go to Kings Island and gave reason why, so I reluctantly agreed and made the stand that if the lines where long that we would just do the shows and special events. The lines where indeed long so we just took our time and watched the shows and special events, we snacked here and there; people watched and had an absolute great time. Even though the park was crowded it seemed as if we were on a different touring plan than everyone else, and to us it was not bad. On the way home I made a new vowel; to always go to Kings Island on the 4th of July and we have done so since, except last year when they held the celebrations on the 3rd of July (a work day ). I have since followed this plan when the park is very busy or is holding special activities. If you are looking to ride rides get there early or come another day. If you’re looking for some family fun with limited ride experiences while taking in the special activities that you do not get on regular operating days; you can’t go wrong going on the 4th of July as you will see some unique fun entertainment that you all can enjoy together verses being in front/behind each other on a ride.. When the park is busy that is when we take in the face painting and game playing basically doing what the minority of the guests are doing. Pretend the crowd is not there, it is very easy to get caught up in what some guest are doing or acting like on these days but don’t go there. Have lots of fun, act a bit goofy in front of the kids and keep smiling, they'll love you for it!
flightoffear1996
I went on the 4th last year or maybe two years ago and it seems to me it was about your average Sunday. The various events were great durning the day such as the sky diving. I don't stay for the fireworks since my neighbor puts on a great show. He has speical platforms for his roof that the fireworks sit on and the roof is filled with all kinds of great fireworks. Anyway this year will probaly be packed even more than the Kneviel Jump with the tight wire acts and the biggest Firework display Kings Island has ever had. Thrill_Biscuit
We'll probably leave early and watch the fireworks from a "crowd safe" distance, if there's such a thing .

People don't stake out a spot for the fireworks till about an hour beforehand. The lines will be fairly long. Firehawk- 1 1/2 hours, Backlot- 45 min to an hour if I had to guess. Most of the rest, 1/2 hour or so. It'll be like a busy Saturday.

The Interpreter
Perhaps Mr. Kinzel got a few nickels from the revelers who will be privately celebrating atop the Eiffel Tower....
