Is Viking Fury going away?

Featured Replies

I haven't read thru this thread, before my time, I just hope its not meant as an interpretation that Viking Fury is scheduled for removal. Easily my favorite flat in the park, amongst my favorite rides period. Hopefully the interpretation is that all the downtime this season is an indication of nothing more than downtime, which apparently was the case in 2008. Hopefully.

If you think "Great taste, less filling," is inappropriate then you probably shouldn't leave the house.

Less filling! (I've been tempted to start up this chant every time I've ridden the ship this year, but I know I'd just get a lot of blank stares)

Indeed. Shades of the big blue B&M CP coaster built in 2ooo. Terp, referrin' to old stuff (and who really does know better).

I'd bet good money that the Viking Fury downtime had to do with the power outage. It was down for about a week, starting with the power outage, then a few days after that.

The ride is a fantastic transitional ride. "Big" little kids love it. They'd be foolish to remove it.

^Jungle Cruise is a Trademark of Disney. CP had Paddlewheel Excursions which was the later version of Western Cruise

Would that be like removing Flying Eagles? Or Antique Cars?

Or Jungle Cruise at Cedar Point?

Terp, who likes to ask questions.

Those were different times, back when people wanted thrills instead of both family thrills and thrills for junkies.

Many generations to come for Viking Fury, hopefully it will have new neighbor rides 2015, 2016, new Fest Haus' maybe a new dark ride Phantoms Revenge, and who knows, what else.

I suspect Kennywood and Palace Entertainment would have a BIG problem with that.

I want a shoot the chutes that's themed to the old Coney ride way back when right where it is now  .

In all honesty, I would not mind on it being bye bye. Let's get a new one call it "Viking Fury", make it look like an old Viking(No kiddies, not the American Football team) ship, and make it go all the way around.

I wonder how many "Whees" we will hear from Mr. Alvey on that.......

I'm going there next year :) .

I usually like looping attractions, but if it is the rough kind (OSTR, or lap restraints that go too far) that's a nope.

Go to Kings Dominion.

Ride the infernal contraption.

Then see if you still say that.

Or the one at Carowinds. Yeouch! Of all the rides that my friend's son refuses to ride there, I don't blame him on that one.

Less filling!

Am I the only one who thinks that a chant based on alcohol commercials is inappropriate on a ride frequented by children?

jcgoble3, asking an honest question

Yeah, fair point. I realized right after I posted it that I was probably overreacting, but was too lazy to edit. :P

The chant started (along with the commercials, obviously) when I was still a kid myself. Inappropriate, maybe, but that is probably why it was so popular. I won't even go into what myself and some other Girl Scouts used to find it fun to yell back and forth on rides...

It's interesting to me that there's nothing in current popular media that has caught on. I always liked the community aspect of it, even though we were mostly strangers, we came together because we all knew the words.

I used to do the "taste great, less filling" chant well before I arrived at the appropriate imbibing age. So personally, I don't find it to be much of an issue.

I'm in the same boat regarding saying that every time, but figure it would be lost on most people, however if you ever shout it out from the other side while I'm on, you'll certainly get at least 1 response.

There was some folks doing that chant on KK's pirate ship earlier this year. I could not help but laugh a little.

Was one side of the ride assigned as "great taste" and the other "less filling"? I seem to remember this going on, vaguely.

Yep. As your side rocked upward you'd do your chant. Haven't seen it done at KI in quite a while.

Last time we rode it we yelled it. People looked at us like we were stupid...and before you say it, no, it is not too different than how most people look at us.

Has anyone been able to find the commercial online? I haven't been able to find one that features a rocking ship.
