TOPGUN1993
Cinema 180 1986-1999? Lazer Tag 2000-2004 Storage 2005-2008
specialk141
who cares???> i always thought that was a bit of an eye sore anyway.... not to mention there was never anything entertaining in there, as long as i can remember.... bigger question, we knew Vortex was getting a paint job, since ryans post yesterday... but are those black supports? or just an optical illusion from the clouds / rain today? CoastersRZ
Mr. Eagle Eyes, you may in fact be correct. It certainly looks like that building is no longer there. As an aside, imageshack is taking a long time to load your images. At least for me here at UC anyway. Those supports are the same navy blue color that they were last season. Because of the cloudy dreary day and the low resolution of the webcam, they appear to be black. I actually remember seeing a film in the Cinema 180 theater. You actually sat on the floor. Shaggy
I actually remember seeing a film in the Cinema 180 theater. You actually sat on the floor. I sat on that floor myself a number of times... One season they showed a movie featuring a POV ride on The Beast. I remember thinking "Uh, it's about 500 feet away, why not just go ride it for real?"
Kawana
^^^ True, but didn't they also show other coasters from other parks. I remember one movie making me sick, very sick.
joecartoon
My dad told me a story about when he and my mom went to the 180 theater and he punked becuase he couldn't handle things like that.
Aaron88stang
I remember doing an upcharge lazer tag like thing back in the early 90's where you shot a targets rather than each other. Was that in this building or somewhere else? I seem to think it was in a different location. Anyone remember this? I do remember sitting on the floor and watching a movie in there when I was a kid back in the 80s but i have no idea what it was about. RailRider
Thank goodness this buidling has finally been removed. This may be the start of improvements to Coney Mall. Hopefully next seasson there is a new flat on this site and maybe the former Flight Commander site can get some attention and the Euro Bungee removed. I know there are still some Geauga Lake flats that could be moved in and also of CGA is sold anytime soon there would be some flats available. I believe Starfish, Chance Wipeout, Time Warp, Chance Double Inverter, Thriller Bees, Huss Bee Bee and a few others that have not been relocated yet, but are in storage. gameGhost
Ya I would love if they did something like that!
violakat03
I'd love to see some of the 'abandoned' areas of Coney Mall getting some use. I remember playing laser tag in the former theater back in the late 90's (this was the same day we rode King Cobra at least 15 times) but I don't remember seeing any movies there. There are so many un-used areas in Coney Mall that could really use a good new flat ride. I've always found KI's family-oriented flat ride collection to be lacking. IndyGuy4KI
For now though, it will praobbly get a new game that you win a blown up basetball that everyone wants to bounce while wating in the queue lines!
DropZone99
I'm glad to see it gone too. It was an eye sore, it looked like a Giant Onion! Now all they have to do is remove Euro-Bungy and put a few classic rides in those spots...
violakat03
For now though, it will praobbly get a new game that you win a blown up basetball that everyone wants to bounce while wating in the queue lines! As annoyed as I am about the installation of 3-point shootout where the Flying Eagles were, you have to admit, that game is a massive money maker for the park. $10 a pop and a small percentage of people who play it actually win anything, let alone one of the 'top' prizes (a jersey that you could probably buy off-site for $10). I still find it amazing how many people waste their money on that game, because you have to be pretty good to be able to win.
Gabe
Well I for one am a pretty decent jumpshooter when it comes to basketball, so the good thing about this is that it is the only game where the odds are in your favor if you're a good shot (ie there is nothing skewed to the park like in the Coke bottle ring toss or the peach basket toss, etc. ) Like all prizes, they can be bought much more cheaply offsite, but if you're a good shot and can hit about 80% of your shots, you can win something decent. I've never played the game, but I know that its location attracts a lot of players on their way to/from BLSC.

Ashers
Wow, I guess I never realized how much unused space is there until you just outlined it all in red, TG! That would be awesome if they would bring in some old flat rides to put in those spots....start restoring Coney Mall so that it resembles its younger glory days! Now if only they could get the Flying Eagles back.... ~Ash
jzarley
My dad told me a story about when he and my mom went to the 180 theater and he punked becuase he couldn't handle things like that. That happened to me...senior trip in High School. I got sicker in Theater 180 than I ever have gotten on any amusement park ride...ran to the bathroom on Coney Mall and puked. It took me like an hour to recover. I never went into it again. I get nauseous with some first person video games too...I read somewhere that it was caused from a disconnect where your brain was perceiving motion but your inner ear wasn't actually encountering motion. I know I always stop for a few minutes at that game when walking by to see how the person is doing, and I never play those games. I am there for the rides not games. I can do that at home which is 120 miles away. It just bugs me when you are standing in the queue line like "The Beast" for instance, where there is a wood floor and someone is bouncing a basketball in there. Maybe I am getting to old and set in my ways?
violakat03
I agree, the basketballs are the most annoying thing in the entire park. A lot of people play the games just to be able to get the 'cool' factor of walking around bouncing it - but I fully believe the park should give them a claim ticket and make them come to a kiosk OUTSIDE the gates to collect their basketballs after they leave, but that would probably reduce the number of people playing the games. Gabe
or better yet just give them deflated balls in a plastic sleeve that they have to blow up at home! they could tell people the ones blown up sitting below the hoops are for display only!
RailRider
Give them defleated basketballs and outside the main gate have an air machine with a needle attachment that conly costs a nickle to use. Just another way to make a little money.

That they are regulation basketballs inflated properly, that the rims are standard sized and at the proper height? Be aware that many places one or more of those things is not the case. kjkjkj
Well, as TG mentioned in his original post, it was used for storage after laser tag closed. So they have to be removing it for something, because if not, why would they get rid of perfectly usable storage space? They could have just removed it becasue it is an eyesore, but who really paid attention to it anyway? So why would they remove it for looks, when the GP will probably never remember it being there.....
teenageninja
Pretty neato, could be interesting next year.
The Interpreter
Kjkjkj, you are assuming it was perfectly good storage space. It might not have been....
kjkjkj
That is true. Well I for one am glad that the eyesore is gone, no matter what does, or doesn't, go in there.
LongLiveTheSmurfRide
I remember, I think it was '95, they had a "Congo" exhibit in that theater with props and models from the movie Congo. Good times.

ZukoGirl
I didn't even pay that any attention. Now I'm kind of interested of was it there for. I guess it is true you don't know what you got till it's gone or in this case notice
