Rollercoast19
I know last year and the beginning of this year it was painfully slow. However, the last two times I have visited the park and rode Dodgems I have noticed an increase in speed. The last time I rode them (Aug. 8) I was bumped around pretty good. Has anyone else noticed this?
standbyme
Wow...I hope you are right...I miss riding them. (By the way...nice new avatar!)
TheKlockster
Dodgems are a great ride that often gets overlooked. I never noticed a change in their speed but I haven't been in a while. I know sometimes some of the cars get messed up or something and go ridiculously slow.
KIBOB
I have also noticed an increase in speed, i was at the park last night and by chance decided to ride Dodgem and i was surprised by how fast the cars were going.
CincyMan98
I've never even done that before. Why is it so great of a ride? And why is the height requirement 54" - or somewhere around there?
Coaster Kid
I noticed it to sometimes there also faster if your the first riders after the mop the floor.
CoasterFreak45
I always hate bumper cars, my car always gets stuck and everyone hits me. Lol.,

It's 48" to ride. http://visitkingsisland.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=
LongLiveTheSmurfRide
I hope they're faster. I love bumper cars and KI's are the slowest I've ever been on.
jondrewfoo
kis really are super slow. even if they bumped em up a tad, they would still be slow. id much rather go to coney island and do their bumper cars any day.
dragsterfan420
When I went to Coney Island a few years ago I rode the dodgems while waiting for my cousins to comeback from their car. I was totally surprised! They were the best dodgems I had ever ridden.

Rollercoast19
(By the way...nice new avatar!) Thanks! When I saw it come up on the on-ride photo screen I had to buy it. For those who went to KIC Day 2, you remember how extremely slow they were. Now they are enjoyable again!

Diamondback FOF
I never would've thought you could trim bumper cars!
CedarPointer
You can also trim a viking's fury.
LongLiveTheSmurfRide
And you can trim a furry Viking. Best bumper cars I've been on are at Holiday World.
iChase
How would one go about increasing the speed of bumper cars, anyway? Would more electricity be the only requirement? Or different motors?
The Interpreter
Most modern day bumper cars have adjustable speeds. Some manufacturers, for example, allow the amusement owner to select from any of six pre-set settings....
shortyOSU
I worked on the Dodgems several times in my 3 years of working at the park. The supervisor of MSD (monster, scrambler, dodgems) from two years ago (a real fatty) hated how "fast" the cars were going, so he had maintenance turn the speed down. This season I haven't worked on them so I have actually no clue how fast they go, but I know last season they went about 2 mph. No joke. rotag
On one trip I made, I thought I saw maintanance messin with the wire screen they use. Wether cleanin them up or replacing them I don't know. But I never thought a thing about it. Ill have to check them out on next visit. On a side note. Didja know they can trim a scrambler? Cause just as soon as you get goin on the ones at cp. They bring the ride to a hault.
rotag
imo, I am a firm believer in the whole "you don't wanna get bumped, then why are you ridin the BUMPER CAR's?"
violakat03
I don't even ride KI's bumper cars anymore. They depress me with how slow they go. I agree with Smurfy. The best bumper cars I've ever been on were Holiday World's, though Cedar Point's are pretty good and don't have a 'one way' rule or divider in the middle. Which, is a huge pet peeve of mine. They're BUMPER cars not RACING cars. If I wanted to go one way, I'd ride the go-carts. I'm riding bumper cars. I can't bump someone if they're driving away from me at the same speed. So I always ignore the one-way signs and bump the crap outta everyone. Haven't had a ride op say anything to me yet! Interestingly, Coney's are the only ones I've been able to do complete laps in reverse. Most bumper cars don't allow you to drive backwards that far. I was having way too much fun with reverse laps. Oh, and if you get stuck, that means you haven't ridden the bumper cars enough. I LOVE bumper cars, so I have mastered getting out of a traffic jam. And driving in reverse, apparently! Hate to tell you but ride supervisors really have no say on those types of ride issues. They can make recommendations to their managers, but it is not their decision to make or give to maintenance. Diamondback FOF
So yesterday I went down to Riverbend to see the Nickelback concert . We parked in the Coney Island lot, so we had to walk past a couple rides. Then, we decided to go in the main entrance to Riverbend, which is by another parking lot. On the way we go to see their bumper cars. They do go faster than Kings Island's, and they looked like fun. Anyways, I wish KI's went faster.
