CedarPointer
I was totally surprised by Backyard BBQ! First, the person from Guest Relations that we got our tickets from gave them to us for the $5.99 jr/sr rate. What a deal! The food was really good. After reading comments on here about it, I was totally expecting bad food. It wasn't bad by any means. The employees were actually making an effort to keep the bees out of the food and keep fresh food out (the soda machines were less lucky- a personal injury lawyer would have a field day there!). The chicken tenders were much better than I was expecting- they weren't like McNuggets at all! The potato salad was the best I've had in a while, and the hamburgers had all the toppings I would expect. I was really, really impressed. For the amount and quality of the food, it was a great deal, even at $9.99!
The Interpreter
I also find the ice cream sandwiches served there to be of very high quality...and, so long as one is not embarrassed easily, one can make a dandy salad with honey mustard dressing....the cheese is real cheddar cheese, the veggies were fresh when I partook, etc. Not one to drink soda, I thought it was a very good deal nonetheless, even outside a park setting. Only the time is odd....3 is a strange time to have to have lunch/dinner! Terpy, who knows these things.

gigacoaster2k
I ended up stuffing myself to the point where my stomach was sore at the last Backyard BBQ. I was impressed as well. Their food and service are definitely worth mentioning.

CedarPointer
According to the KI site, no.
standbyme
I also find the ice cream sandwiches served there to be of very high quality... I wonder if they are back...last time I ate there, in mid July, all they offered were those cups of "ice cream"....which are SO hard you could use them to build footers/footings for a coaster. (Other than that I also think the BBQ is a great deal.)

There's a strategy, make it so hard to eat that they won't go back for more...

Also, all-you-can-eat buffets are a more inexpensive food option for a larger family rather than eating at other places if they don't have time to cook. Also, it is healtier than other restaurants, and some of the food can be uite healthy.

Some of the food can be healthy, not traditionally at a BBQ restaurant. And people eat huge amounts of it, and even if it was "uite" healthy, eating pounds of it isn't. Diamondback FOF
But, you weren't talking about just a BBQ restaurant; you were talking about all-you-can-eat buffets in general. Most buffets have options that are healthier, and even some of the not so healthy items are healthier than other restaurants and even cooking at home. paperg
Jess & I ate there on Saturday. It was great for the most part, we had eaten there once before too & everything was great, this time, they had some kind of seasoning on the hamburgers, which wasn't so great. Wish they wouldn't put any seasoning on them anymore.

markr
I always avoided the Backround Barbeque because it was my understanding that it wasn't real barbeque, ie those awful steamed hamburgers instead of grilled hamburgers. It was also my understanding that the food was the same food as the inside buffet and the last time I ate at the inside buffet back in the spring, the food was awful. If in fact the food is really barbequed, I would be willing to give it another go. Otherwise, the price to me would not be worth it.
CedarPointer
I'm 90% sure that it's still steamed...
The Interpreter
It's steamed. And of all the food options at Kings Island, the Backyard BBQ most meets my dietary needs. I am STILL looking for convenient fresh fruit at KI, for more grilled options, for more choices that aren't fried stuff I shouldn't be eating, and for quantities more suitable for a single person on dietary restrictions than a herd of hungry elephants. It would seem such requests are reasonable, but Kings Island seems more interested in providing great quantities of relatively unhealthy food at unreasonable prices, then wonders why people go to the parking lot to eat or leave the park entirely. Kings Island, where else?
kjkjkj
Actually, Terpy, my family and I found an awesome fruit salad at Juke Box Diner. It all tasted really good, and it was a lot of fruit for the price (at an amusement park) It came with watermelon, pinapple, grapes, cantaloupe, honeydew, and maybe strawberries! The Interpreter
Thanks. Perhaps they ARE listening. There is a market for fresh fruit in theme parks, as Disney, for one, well knows.
Diamondback FOF
I had totally forgotten about the fruitsalad in Juke Box Diner. I have seen it since nearly the beginning of the season. I think it was the beginning or middle of May when I first saw it. My mom wants to get it sometime. I'm sorry for not mentioning it sooner because I always read how you want fresh fruit at KI . kjkjkj
Your welcome. Hopefully they still offer it there, we found it towards the beginning of the season. Haven't eaten at the park too much lately, so I wouldn't know if it's still offered there or not.
Diamondback FOF
When I was there like four weeks ago they still had it. I'm not sure if they did last weekend, though.
