The Interpreter Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 ...When logic and proportionHave fallen sloppy dead And the White Knight is talking backwards And the Red Queen's "off with her head!" Remember what the dormouse said: "Feed your head, feed your head, feed your head" Terp, who does what he does (with apologies to a white rabbit) Quote
Oldschool75 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I would guess that the walls are to enclose the area for a staging or work center for any possible construction being done to SOB, or just to help keep the weather elements out during winter work to the coaster. Just a speculation. Another thought could be is if it is for a haunt then it's good to say SOB is coming down. Why would they do all this work erecting walls and modifying the station for a coaster this is going to reopen? Quote
TylerRider Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 That seems like the worst possible place to have the public. They want to not think of Sob so they decide to put a haunt up there? Also, it seems like a lot of work to put up a small part of a haunt. They would have to board of the track and everything. Quote

The Interpreter Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Sometimes it's a crane, Sometimes it's a dormouse! Terp, running for the door like a mouse! Quote
UnrealNightmare Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Maybe they aren't taking out the rails maybe they are using them as part of the walk through... Quote
BavarianBeatle Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I loved SoB... --Beatle, who looks at his son wearing one of the last Son of Beast t-shirts that cost all of $2.50, and remembers Walt Disney's famous quote. Quote
BavarianBeatle Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Look at the icon at the end and go from there..... Quote
The Interpreter Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I know you didn't mean this one, but: Too many people grow up. That's the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up. They forget. They don't remember what it's like to be 12 years old. They patronize, they treat children as inferiors. Well I won't do that. Walt Disney Quote
coaster_junky Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 lol, i don't pick up on hints like that usually, but searching through some of his quotes, i came across this one: "We are not trying to entertain the critics. I'll take my chances with the public." one that a lot of us on here, including myself, sometimes have difficulty understanding. Quote

RingMaster Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Seems like a very bittersweet way to say the coaster is not returning next season by installing a Haunt inside its station. Though it may not be permanent and the maze could move to another location the following year (see Cut-Throat Cove and CarnEVIL). Quote
bkroz Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Or it could be disassembled after the event, like most of the haunted houses... I don't know if or what this could mean for the ride's future. But I do know what it says about the rides present, and its operation through the rest of the 2010 season - it won't be operating. Not today, and not in October. Is that really news to anyone? The station is not in use through the rest of the 2010 season. Why not utilize it? Quote
kjkjkj Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 It could easily be taken down at the end of Haunt. I mean, look what they did with Stunt Crew Grill last year. They built an entire maze through the outdoor eating section! Many people thought that they would leave those walls up, and SCG wouldn't reopen this season. Well, the walls got taken down and SCG reopened... Quote
Purplehaze Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 ^ When it is open, it has never been open when I have been there Quote
Dbfan Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 If you want the public to stop being scared of SOB (which many seem to be after the incidents) it's not the brightest idea to turn the station into Haunt. It would be cool though if they themed it after an abandoned park... Quote
arichmann Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 maybe they are doing some serious p.r. they are prob doing some kind of haunt based on The Beast getting loose and you trying to run away from it. then at the end of the maze they say....see the re-caging of The Beast in 2011. would be nice. Quote
The Interpreter Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. This is, after all, the park that promoted Diamondback with: Diamondback. Your first ride could be your last. Quote
CincyMan98 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Does anybody know when they usually put the Haunt site up? Beginning of September possibly? Quote
nhimes90 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Does anybody know when they usually put the Haunt site up? Beginning of September possibly? They never really close the Haunt website, but here is the url. http://haunt.visitkingsisland.com/ It just hasn't been updated yet. Quote
BavarianBeatle Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Well, we went and checked out the SoB station today (August 8, 2010). The side of the station nearest the brake run is completely boarded up. There are two openings on the side of the station facing FD, however, one of them is blocked by a fence. There is a third opening near the operators booth, but it is also blocked by a fence. The opening in the plywood wall at the top of the queue ramps appears to be the only way in or out of the station. It also appeared that there is at least a partial plywood wall in the middle of the station. I did not see any switchback rails in the station. Quote
Cody Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Has anyone ever notice how plain the SOB station looks? I just now noticed that. On topic: I wander why they would do such a thing, maybe someone was right about the haunt maze idea. Quote
The Interpreter Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Plain because of all the budget overruns...nearly everything planned for that station was omitted at the last minute. And I still think it looks as if it should be a station for Superman: Ride of Steel. Quote
coaster_junky Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 what all was the station supposed to have? Quote
LongliveKingsCobra Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 What were the plans for the station Mr. Terpy? Quote
The Interpreter Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Theming along the lines of that seen at Tomb Raider: The Ride and more of a back story... The ride had cost so much by the time it opened, it was lucky to get a station at all! Quote
coaster_junky Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 was Son of Beast ever supposed to have tunnels like it's 'father'? Quote
