IndyGuy4KI
And Don H. Stated the power to most things was back on within 3 hours. Can DH define most? My family was there until 11:30 pm; I seen first hand what was and was not running, and cannot agree with his statement. Just cause power was restored does not mean the ride was running!! Or that each ride needed to be inspected by the same maintenance crew that was obviously already busy.... It is funny how what people "read" and "understand" are two different things, as "Power on" and "operating" are two seperate things.

Power on, would be lights on in stores, not seeing a large portable generator in the parking lot lighting the way for patrons. You have to have "Power On" to operate those rides, and with no power, they won't run. Not selective operating of rides and shows. I guess you would have to had been there to see the difference. I'm curious: 1. Who was actually there to expierence this? 2. And; when did they get the phase back up and at 100%? There is a post here that on 7/5 they still had issues. KIBOB
A little off topic, but does anyone know the answer to this? Does the majority of the park's power come from those high tension power lines that hover over Boomerang Bay (it always gives me a slight chill walking under those with water all around me). Also, is the park's power facility were that substation is behind BB, the one you can see from the deck of Tasmanian Typhoon?
Browntggrr
Power on, would be lights on in stores, not seeing a large portable generator in the parking lot lighting the way for patrons. I'm confused. What do lights being off or on in stores have to do with a generator in the parking lot?

" Don stated the power was restored to these places in 3 hrs, that could mean via a generator as well. Whether they decided to turn light on in that store is up to them. Just because you saw no lights on does not make Don's statement false.
SuperLoops
So I made it there on my day off work and Invertigo was test running, about the 3rd run, there was a loud intercom style chirp from the ride and then everything just stopped. all the rides that were down were... Invertigo Congo Falls-would have been nice to ride on such a freaking hot day! it was also drained of all the water. Delirium- I noticed the floor on this ride was lowered and all restraints closed. It looked almost as if it had emergency stopped. Adventure Express Vicking's fury Blue Racer was down all day as well.
standbyme
... those high tension power lines that hover over Boomerang Bay (it always gives me a slight chill walking under those with water all around me). coaster_junky
^^as has been stated multiple times, Delirium has been down for a while now, long before the power outage on the fourth.
Mantis1996
I found these two stories conflicting myself. 1. WLWT A power outage Sunday evening briefly shut down portions of Kings Island. Park spokesman Don Helbig said the outage lasted for less than an hour and did not affect the entire park. Helbig said no passengers were stuck on any rides, which can continue operations on backup generators, during the outage. After power was restored, the rides were checked by park employees before reopening to the public. 2. jbaker@enquirer.com Most of the rides, shops and restaurants that closed about 6:30 p.m. were reopened by 9:30 p.m., said Don Helbig. Some park visitors had to be escorted off stopped rides, he said. As I left at 11:30pm they either did not have power or chose to shut down all the International street resturants, gift shops, the Festhaus, the computers at the main gate, the metal detectors, the parking lot lights and fountains. The generator was only lighting the parking lot at the entrance to the gold lot at the cross walk, the stores had no power at 11:30pm when I left. The problem was not fixed in three hours. There was still a loss of a phase going on. another post on here indicates that upto 24 hours, there was still power loss and problems going on. My point is alot of guessing by people not there to expierance it; and it was not 3 hours. There was no restore that night, and the only generator viewed was the one I spoke of, were there other generators running the rides? Don't know; but wouldn't be a bad idea for the park to invest in. The park was running on one phase.

I ask, only because since there was no power for some time, there would be no way for items to be rung up and sold as well as no A/C making the stores quite miserable to be in anyway. BoddaH1994
Many of the downtimes have been exaggerated. The outage only lasted for a short while. Some rides were taken out of commission for a short while as a precaution. Many of the rides that lost power had to go through their morning start up procedure in order to entertain guests again. A lot of this required maintenance to hop from one ride to another to get them started, just as they would in the early morning. From what I understand, some of the shops on IS continued to be closed as a precaution until they were fully able to investigate the cause of the brown out. I understand people being upset, but to say that the park lost power for several hours simply isn't accurate. The actual power loss was a brief incident. Well to open a ride or open a shop is the question. If they were not sure of what caused it I do not think it was wise to open the rides and take the chance of them going down again, and to be honest that sounded like a forced press release. Cause of the "brown out" there are still areas of the park affected. Such as the Fountains and who knows what else. You see, this is where the unfortunate side of things come in. Had I posted that I had heard from an inside source (notice the lack of credibility in the "source") that hell was raised, riots broke out and dogs and cats started living together in complete chaos, you probably would have backed it up. However, when I get a call from a park official who tells me the actual story and I relay it to you, you choose not to believe it. The axe you're grinding is becoming more and more evident and is damaging your credibility. It's a shame too since you used to make thoughtful posts in the past... Gturner94
I was working under the Tower the fourth and unfortunately we were one of the few stands open. We were packed. Also Invertigo and Congo Falls were still down most of yesterday from the outage. Note: Delirium has a motor issue and a special order has been put in for the parts. Delirium's shutdown was not dew to the power outage.

The park was running on one phase. My point was people made assumptions by what they observed only, not knowing what was really going on. Example: Guest: Look, that store does not have it's lights on so a phase must be out. Possible Reality: Power was restored to store as reported by KI, but the A/C unit needs reset to get it running again. IT is having issues getting the register server up, so they still can't ring anyone out. KI's decision at the time: No need to turn on lights until every infrastructure that is required to run that store be in full operation. Something else that supports my point. I see yet again you are coming to conclusions by what you saw, not on facts. "The park was running on one phase." Who in the park told you this?
