January 2, 201115 yr A man who’d reportedly been drinking veered off the side of the road along the Cedar Point Drive high bridge Saturday, smashing into steel posts and taking out a telephone pole.David Bier, 40, refused a breath test and resisted treatment, but Sandusky police sent him to the hospital anyway because of his injuries and his apparent level of intoxication, Sgt. Rich Braun said. While Bier exited the Cadillac almost immediately, his passenger, 40-year-old Gary Wechter, had to stay in the vehicle for almost two hours because the sheared power line put him at risk for electrocution. “The pole was hanging over the car with live wires,” Officer Andrew Dunn said. ... Cedar Point spokesman Robin Innes said the crash caused significant damage to the amusement park’s property, but he didn’t have an estimate Saturday. http://www.sanduskyregister.com/sandusky/2011/jan/01/man-crashes-along-cedar-point-bridge
January 2, 201115 yr I guess it's fitting that his last name is Bier. Not to make light of very serious situation. At least there were no other people involved in the wreck.
January 2, 201115 yr No respect for those who drive intoxicated and no sympathy for them when they wreck. You just have to pray they only injure themselves.
January 2, 201115 yr Not to say I wish injury upon them...but it's better them than an innocent soul.
January 2, 201115 yr This was one of many terrible wrecks last night. I saw lots of cops out, and lots of crashes. Remember to drive safe and always have a designated driver.
January 2, 201115 yr I've nearly wound up in the lake out there several times sober...You get sweet air time on the hill...That being said, what would they be doing out there anyway?
January 2, 201115 yr This makes me wonder just how fast the guy was going... Bier was driving north over the bridge when he lost control of the car at about 2 p.m., officials said.He continued to skid at least 270 feet, striking 10 guideposts spaced about 15 feet apart. The article also says that CP claims he caused "considerable damage" to their property.
January 3, 201115 yr Well, 270 feet is quite a distance to skid. And if he hit ten guideposts, there most have been some damage.
January 3, 201115 yr Author Yep....that's what they mean, and Cedar Fair does own and operate the causeway...a part of the parking fee includes the "toll" for driving on it...
