I recently purchased this magazine from 1973...and I probably should have saved it for later in the offseason...but I enjoyed reading it so much I thought that I would just go ahead and share it now.

Besides the photos it has some interesting facts...such as how long the people in the costumes could last in the heat...and that parking was 50 cents a car!

Enjoy! :)

Well, Cedar Fair has been increasing operating hours at many of their parks the last couple of seasons. And, Kings Island did close at midnights on Saturdays in July this year. I actually remember going to Cedar Point in 1999, I believe, and we visited on a weekday and they were open until 11pm if I recall correctly.

By the way, isn't this an amazing train wreck of an outfit?!

What was the person smoking who designed this monstrosity? It's like the person was going out of their way to make the women look as stupid as possible...and which part of the outfit is the most ludicrous, the hat, the cape, the boots...or that anyone would be seen in public in it?! :P

I wonder if the first picture you posted was taken during the park's construction... I didn't notice it the first time around, but Grand Carousel is apparently missing its top

You really are an observent individual. I noticed that the photos seem to have been taken over a period of time...which I thought was odd for a fluff piece like this. If you look at the 2 photos of the shop on International Street (that are on the same page no less) you will see that the tree has leaves in one, not the other...and no shutters in one...

As for your observation...it has to be during construction because if you look to the right you will also see that all of the light poles are without their lights...PLUS I lightned up the photo...that IS a bunch of cars parked in front of the tower, isn't it?

I would like to see Cedar Fair bring back music geared for each section of the park, just like when it opened in 1972. International Street had French accordion music; Kids area had cartoon music; River Town had country, Coney Mall had rag time and Octoberfest had German music. Please find a picture of the litter getter's uniform which was all white, white pants, shirt and golf cap. That was the uniform that I wore when I was first hired in 72.

I wish they would section the music too. The zany outfit that chick is wearing looks like the same person that designed the Awful Ptooie Chatanooga Cats cartoon designed her duds.

the 70's were a terrible time for hat fashion.

Here are the pics from 1972:

I was only 17 years back in 1972. My cousin and her family are with me in the antique car. I really had nice red hair back then!

This is a picture of me in the summer of 1975, right after Jaws came out. This was taken at Wildwood, NJ. My brother-in-law is in the background. Notice my tee shirt which was all the "litter getters" had designed and made while at Kings Island.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, KI-ORIG-EMP. Regarding the second one (the one of Eiffel Tower), is that a person leaning over the railing and waving down at the cameraman? I know that Tower only had a simple hand-rail at the beginning of 1972 (although that was later lengthened, seen HERE), but I don't think I'd ever be willing to do something like that :P

That was Karl Wallenda who did his tightrope walk across the fountain and that is Karl after he climbed up the tower! There is NO way that I would ever do anything like that. Now I have gone sky diving when I work at the park that summer but I will not walk across a wire or climb without being hooked into a harness. But that was back then when I was young and wild.
