Worth noting in the Monster photo are The Racer trains, which featured four cars per train when the ride originally opened in 1972. Due to the ride's popularity, a fifth car was added in 1973 to incr

  • Wow, that Flight of Fear picture brings back a lot of memories. It was a very warm and sunny June Monday. I just graduated from Princeton HS and was working in an office in St. Bernard. They didn't

Is that the King Cobra off in the distance, just to the right of the tower? Neat shot

Thats actually Viking Fury, King Cobra is seen on the far right edge.

thanks, I thought the thing to the far right was Top Gun when I first looked at it.

thanks for the video. King Cobra was about 10 seconds longer than I remembered it (about 45 seconds from top of the lift hill to stop) Vortex appears to be about 15 seconds shorter than I would have guessed (I think I counted about 1:15 from top of lift hill to the final stop)

Love the video of Top Gun, looks so much nicer without that huge pile of firewood beside it :P

And I miss King Cobra, though I don't miss the restraints. They were hard on broad-shouldered guys...

And a big THANK YOU for all the great pictures and videos...

I loved King Cobra thanks again for the pics Paul.

Can't remember if I've said it, but I am thoroughly enjoying this thread Paul - thanks!

What I find interesting is how I totally missed some things in KI history (don't believe I ever saw Days of Thunder in Action Theater), while others are imprinted in my memory like it was yesterday (memories of the Safari, riding King Cobra, the queue/loading of KCKC).

I love coming here everyday and looking at these pics! thank you so much for bringing back so many memories! :)

i do remember DoT in Action Theater, it was the first thing in there when that building got erected. reason being is my first ride on it scared me as a kid; i rode it & let the seat move my body, but my head stayed in a fixed position; stare'n @ the screen.

that it does; a toll booth & a 3-way split. :P

Thanks for all of these wonderful pictures. Though I do not comment everyday, it is the first thing I look at each morning when I get online. Awesome stuff!

Is that old guy in the picture just standing there, sleeping?

Wow.

What an incredible picture! One that can't be recreated. I wonder who that is in there. So hard to believe that's probably more than 33 years ago.

Okay there may be a painfully obvious answer to this painfully stupid question BUT, how does that tunnel not fill with water? I assume there are some sort of drains to prevent it but you know I was just wondering.

^Not a dumb question at all, I've never thought of that. I assume there are drains. While not the same thing, I've been in the abandoned Cincinnati Subway and it has a drainage system to clear the tunnels of water via a sewer system underneath it.

I just found this topic today and love it! I love seeing old pictures of KI. it makes me remember things from the earliest visits i can remember when I was very young. I can't wait for this next season to start!

wow, if i remember correctly, I am only 13 but when my cousin who was at the time turning i think 12 maybe 13 or 14, i was only 4 or 5 i cant remember, but i think this was the place, at the time it was nickelodeon universe, but it was his birthday and we went to Kings Island, and i dont know if this was on purpose or not but they had called a random seat, and he was chosen to go on stage and have the employees squirt green slime and throw a pie in his face, i am shocked i can remember this, what is this used for now?

It is used for shows ... you are thinking of the stage in the back of Planet Snoopy near the Boomerang Bay (Soak City) entrance ....
