standbyme
I had planned to add some of my own comments when I posted this...but things came up...so I figured you "guys" would rather have it comment free now than wait until Monday of next week! I hope you enjoy it...and have a good weekend.
CedarPointer
I've always wondered, how come the College Football Hall of Fame building was removed? I know why it closed, but it seems weird that the building would be torn down and the lot left empty in a busy area like that.
PhantomTheater
Look, trim brakes on The Beast. Indicating they have always been there.
IndyGuy4KI
Nice catch PT! I liked the line "Shoot the Rapids in a hollow log." Great share Standbyme, thanks!
KIfan1980
Look, trim brakes on The Beast. Indicating they have always been there. Yes, there have always been trims there. As best I understand, there have been two changes: - While still using the skid brakes, they were lengthened and covered almost the entire length of the first drop - The change to the magnetic style And the college HOF building stood for many years after it closed - but was eventually torn down (likely since no one seemed to want it the cost to demo became a better choice than the cost to maintain)
Jasper
I never even knew about the College Football Hall of Fame, where exactly was it located at in relation to Kings Island?
CedarPointer
I never even knew about the College Football Hall of Fame, where exactly was it located at in relation to Kings Island? U-shaped driveway across from Taco Bell, I think.
KI-ORIG-EMP
The College Football Hall of Fame was located at the corner of Kings Mills Rd and Kings Island Drive. The entire empty lot is where it was located along with what remains of the football stadium. it just did not attract the crowds that they envisioned. The football stadium was to host the championship game for Division III, but the weather proved it was too cold and it was moved. Now the empty lot is up for sale but there is plans for the intersection to be redesigned and I guess they do not know how the empty lot will affect it. KIfan1980
If you go to Google maps, you can get a good feel for the location of the old HOF and Stadium (Galbreath Field - which was home to Moeller Football from the early 80's to the early 2000's) - As mentioned above, the site sites South of Kings Mills Road, East of Kings Island Drive, West of Columbia Road, and North of Wilson Avenue. The U-shaped driveway is visible, as is the parking lot. The building sat at the end of the U-shaped driveway with the football field/stadium to the South -the only remaining item is a scoreboard. Several parcels of land make up the entire area and they are currently owned by Great American Insurance, although they have apparently been trying to sell the land for years - Moeller wanted to update the stadium (before deciding to leave), but nothing happened since GAI was trying to sell the property. RD Reynolds
Note all the mentions of theming on the brochure. If I could have but one KI wish granted, it wouldn't be for any new coaster but a re-emphasis on theming in the park.
The Interpreter
Mr. Dick Kinzel was very proud of the fact he ran amusement parks, not theme parks. Mr. Dick Kinzel is all but gone. His son runs a park in the Carolinas. There is, much to my amusement, a theme in here somewhere.
The Interpreter
(now why did that post twice, he asked bemused as he edited out the second)
