VortexBFForever Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Thanks to one of my recent posts in another poll, I was "inspired" to do this one. Of course, I'm a HUGE fan of Vortex, hence the username... I'm curious to what YOUR opinion of Vortex is, whether it's good or not-so-good. Quote
malem Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 My legs hit the front of the cars on Vortex, so it's not very pleasant to ride. If I'm not in the front seat of a car, it's downright painful. 1 Quote
Stitch Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I gave it a 6 out of 10 vote and I've ridden it over a 100 times. When I was a teenager I really liked Vortex but as I got older and experienced other steel coasters, it lost it's luster. It's not a bad coaster by any stretch, it's just a product of it's time and in my opinon, hasn't held up well. 1 Quote
PKIVortex Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 10 out of 10. Vortex was the coaster that started it all for me back in 1987. 2 Quote
tuxedoman52 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 It's very rough but I can still enjoy it. I anwsered 9 and 11-20 Quote
Original Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I never count me rides, I mabey should start doing that... I said 8/10 because I love the loops, and that incredible drop, abd the chain "noises" sound neat to me. But I hate how rough it is, with all the people "saying bad words" about it in front and back of me its hard to enjoy. Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 When I was young, Vortex was the "big" ride that officially made you a tough guy if you rode it. Because of that, I still have a nostalgic appreciation for the ride. As a rider now, it's okay. Not the worst Arrow looper I've been on, but I don't think I've ever found myself craving a ride on it. Several of my friends don't care for it, which means I usually only ride it when I'm at the park by myself or if I'm there with someone who's never been to KI before. There are many things to like about it, but I'm just not very excited about many of them, especially if I'm not sitting in one of the last three cars. That being said, Vortex's corkscrews are one of my favorite coaster elements, and the turn before the MCBR always surprises me with how intense it is. When it leaves Kings Island when its time comes, the place will definitely lose something for me. 3 Quote
DaveWorldEmperor Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 The ride is a little rough depending on where you ride. But aside from that I love the ride. Especially watching it, it is a really impressive looking ride. Quote
Stitch Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 That's the truth, I really love how they built the batwing element next to the pathway. It's always a blast watching riders going through that and it's very photogenic. 1 Quote
Hank Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Vortex is nice to look at. That's all I've got to say. 3 Quote
IndyGuy4KI Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I love the first drop. Always been one of my favorite drops in the park. 3 Quote
TheBEASTunchained Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I think Vortex is a great roller coaster, I really like the 2 big loops and it is overall in my opinion, a we'll designed/constructed roller coaster. With that being said, Arrow did a much better job when they returned to Kings Island for Vortex than they did the first time they designed a KI coaster...... 2 Quote
Jasper Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I have always loved Vortex, mainly because of it's sheer presence in the park. The ride is magnificent and looks magnificent from a distance. This year however I have grown to love Vortex even more. I have discovered some seats that give me that famous Arrow ejector air, I have rode it more times this year than any other and of course it is 25 years old this year. The ride experience is amazing, every single portion of track has some special element about it that makes it stand out. The day Vortex reaches the end of it's cycles will indeed be a sad day, I cannot imagine what that area of the park will look like if Vortex is not in it. 1 Quote
TOPGUN1993 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 And before terp says anything Don't believe his BS that 5-1 is better then 7-1 2 Quote
The Interpreter Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Your experience may vary. It depends largely on what one's definition of better is. Terp: Find him in 1-1 or 5-1, perhaps soon. Quote
kblanken Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I don't know which option I should choose. I absolutely enjoy it, but I also don't consider it the best ride out there. I don't want to even guess how many times I have been on the ride(it could be almost any of the answers), but I can state that it totally has given me the most inversions of any roller coaster anywhere. flightoffear1996 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Im rating myself a 6. I really like the ride and I think its one of the best Arrow coasters out there but its far off my top ten. Quote
Original Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 When I was young, Vortex was the "big" ride My mom still calls it the "new" rollercoaster . 3 Quote
Kyle100991 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I have never been on Vortex. I do like watching it in action. Its fun standing right next to it watching it twist right by you. 2 Quote
jbt Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I wish I could like Vortex more. The layout is cool, it looks cool, but it's soooo rough for me. Quote
The Interpreter Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Have you tried 5-1? It really makes a HUGE difference where you sit. Quote
The Interpreter Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 The front row of the fifth car. 1 Quote
thunderbeast1968 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I agree, the front row of any Vortex car seems better for me too. I am 6'5" and the little extra leg room serves me well. My opinion is that, I think the ride is rougher as the years go by. It is only my opinion. Just another thought, would the coaster bode better if it received new coaster trains? Maybe some Vekoma trains? Quote
KIfan73 Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Thank you, interpreter! Hopefully I get a ride on Vortex before the season is over! Quote

Vekoma makes a more recent version without horsecollar restraints, though. Quote

The Interpreter Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Sure. Do you put new coaster trains on a steel coaster Vortex's age? Especially given what trains cost and the cost of new coasters? Quote
thunderbeast1968 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Sure. Do you put new coaster trains on a steel coaster Vortex's age? Especially given what trains cost and the cost of new coasters? I have no idea what a "new" coaster train costs these days. I sure know they are more than likely a pretty big cost. It is just a fantasy to have new coaster trains. 1 Quote
