I just posted that in the last page

Don posted a picture of the Blue Racer's turnaround out of the station yesterday. It was completely rebuilt and, as of yesterday, has yet to be repainted.

Yes you did! My iPod took me directly to this page and I didn't even think to check the previous page, thinking SonofBaconador's post was the first unread. Sorry!

I read that on FB last night. I know I can't be the only one that was annoyed by all the "turn The Racer backwards again!" comments on there.

I would like to see it go backwards again...

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it go backwards again too. I LOVED recaR. I was very fired up when the announcment was made that they were making it go forward again in the name of nostalgia. But, as we later learned, it was due to state requirements. Most of us on here understand the reasons it cannot currently go back to backwards operation, I just find it irritating that the GP doesn't know or understand.

From the KI Facebook, from an actual KI post:

[The Racer] was designed to have a break in the turnaround area of the ride.

uhh... that... um...

Anyway, I would love to see The Racer painted as it opened, but I assume they will just stain the wood.

So that means it's designed to stop and rest in the middle of the turnaround area? Funny, because two years ago it decided to take a break on the lift hill :P

I thought the same. But when I tried to explain the state requirements to someone on the KI Facebook page, my comment was deleted, and Don told me that it was deleted because it was incorrect and that The Racer was turned back around because the company chose to. Now I don't know what to believe.

Yes, the company chose to. And PTC no longer recommends operation of PTC wooden coaster trains unless they face forward. In Ohio, ride operators must follow manufacturers' recommendations for a ride to be licensed. Note other PTC wood coaster trains ceased backward operation that same season, especially in jurisdictions that require manufacturers' recommendations to be followed.

There are requirements and there are nostalgic stories. One is a much better public interface than the other. That doesn't mean both aren't true.

I believe that the company chose to "flip" the backwards Racer. State requirements don't change the same time owners change. They didn't change it when Paramount purchased KI seeing that Racer ran backwards prior to the purchase. In conclusion, its a Cedar Fair thing. I'd say more but I don't want to go in to further detail with my thoughts.....

Either that or it's meant to fall apart.

Or ironically take naps on the lift hill, BB1 who encountered a nap while riding in the front row.

Is this referring to how the two sides split (or break) away from each other to do the turnaround?

(As in, not meaning there is an intended rest period, or an intended speed-dropping brake)

I know KI couldn't do this in the 2013 season but I thought it would be nice to add some pine trees under Diamondback's first drop. That way it would partially cover up the Cavern of terror building a little, provide a more scenery for the railroad, and it would look extremely cool under Diamondback. Just a thought of mine.

I would love a bunch of trees in the Diamondback area, as long as the man lift can get over them from the access road I don't see why they can't add some fast growing pines in there.

The Racer like EVERY other PTC will likely never return to backwards mode unless a new car is designed for that function. Like Terp said PTC no longer recomends backwards operation, and if there is a technical bulliten from PTC that states that, then Six Flags and Cedar Fair's liability insurance carriers could drop them for operating equipment outside of manufactures spec. As well as the states have cracked down on the same. The states hold some liability as well, as the municipal inspector, if they approve it and someone were to be injured they can be sued as well.

I bet if there was 1 person who would love The Racer backwards more than any it would be Don. So maybe its time for GCII or TGG to build a backwards train. I imagine if they tested well they could get quite a few orders with all the existing racing coasters, which could lead to both forward and backward train orders! And while the TGG boys from Cincy would be a great fit, they have only had 1 adoption of their Timberliner train in the 4 years of development/testing. While the Millenium flyers have over a dozen in production.

"Simple improvements can make major impacts. Back patio at Hanks."

I'll miss the old wooden covering, but I like this, too. The old one felt like you were eating on a dock (appropriate for Outer Hanks' old menu), but this one will offer more interesting views of Viking Fury. I wonder what will become of Cut-Throat Cove during Haunt.

Now it actually looks like a German festive place instead of Louisiana, I like it better now than the latter, although more rides would be better to make it more of a festival.

I kinda like not having a big attraction this season. I'll be so happy to walk around and see the "Cedar Fair" improvements to the park!

That's how I felt last year. While we aren't getting anything big, it's nice to see things changing to make the park even better. When there's no new big attraction, it lets Kings Island focus on some minor things that need improvements.

I hope they focus on Rivertown a little bit more. With all due respect to KI, I don't want to have to look at the old crypt building every time I go there and know its just being used just for haunt. It would be fine if the building was smaller but given its size, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'll miss the old slat covering, which was there when it was Bier Garten (a few of the posts above make it sound like some think that it was added with the conversion to Bubba Gump's/Outer Hanks... not so. I spent many hours in the summers of 1992 & '93 wiping those tables down and sweeping the patio in the shade). Hopefully they replace it with some sort of covering to escape the heat of the summer sun!
