Jasper Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 This is one of the most sad photos in this thread. Mainly because if you saw this photo now you would see no water, no Wayne's World and you would probably see someone smoking with a sign that says designated smoking area. I still find that area of the park peaceful though, nice place to go grab a drink and sit there and unwind. 2 Quote
jdawg1998 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Wow. Why did they get rid of the waterfall? Quote

SonofBaconator Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Wow. Why did they get rid of the waterfall? Probably since the area is not used and very little people walk through the gardens, it would be a waste of money. Quote
The Interpreter Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 It was used a lot, before somebody decided not to maintain it, to take out the attractions, and then convert it to a smoking area. Of all things. 3 Quote

Creed Bratton Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Yea usually people are in there making out and sometimes there to smoke. 1 Quote
medford Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 water features are generally a pain in the butt to maintain, which is a shame b/c it was a beautiful part of the park back in its day, would love to see it come back to its original glory, or short of that, be converted to something other than a "smoking" area. 4 Quote
74Gibson Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 To be fair, I thought it was pretty gaudy when it was the Paramount Story. For example, that Gremlin kills the aesthetics of the fountain. 1 Quote
Guest Department47 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Everyone complains about Tower Gardens as a smoking area, but I consider a few park guests obliging to park rules favorable over what that area was in 2009 - a year after the water features were shut off, black and stagnant water built up in the little pool and the area reeked of a horrible odor. It remained this way the whole year, before becoming a smoking area the following year. Quote

CoastersRZ Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Another cool photo Paul! A few things to note in it. Notice that the stand that now sells blue icecream is not there. Also, the only rides in this picture that are still at the park is Woodstock Express, and one of the two Hampton umbrella car rides. I also believe the kiddy whip is under the blue tent structure. Also, the Skyride station is now used as a merchandise shop. Keep the great photos coming, Paul! Quote
KIfan73 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I got to ride some of the rides pictured a couple years later, in 1975…if only I could remember it! 2 Quote

TTD-120-420 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Of all my years on this site I have not read why the Skyride was removed. Why was it? Quote
The Interpreter Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 There was an incident requiring the riders be evacuated while the ride was stopped. Cherry pickers and ladders were used. Shortly thereafter, the ride was removed. Many other parks made similar decisions about the same time. Skyrides are expensive to maintain. In addition, some guests toss objects and saliva ( and worse) from the rides. Only a few remain in US parks (SFGAd, SFOG, CP (but only part), BGT (ditto), come immediately to mind. Quote
KIfan73 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Luckily it was low enough that the unfortunate WindSeekers could be reached. I bet they wouldn't let something like that happen today... 5 Quote
TTD-120-420 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Ah, I see. Busch Garden's was beautiful when we went on it a few years ago. A great ride. I wish I was around (or at least could remember) the Frontier Lift at Cedar Point. Quote
Creed Bratton Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Also note in the picture there looks to be a "venue" for a live show next to the Scooby Doo roller coaster. Quote
