Once again all these old KI photos are reminding me that I seriously need to dig through our old family photos and see if I can find some KI ones.

That would be well appreciated by all. :)

Kinda starting to be a little concerned for Paul. I hope he is ok! In the mean time, here is another pic :) I met the former employee who helped construct this piece. The reliefs were sculpted in clay and cast in fiberglass by this individual while the sign department assembled and painted the final product. Enjoy!

The live show venue featured Kenny Rodgers & the First Edition and The Climax Blues Band when the park held their first grad night. I was able to talk with Kenny Rodgers in the back area for several minutes and got his autograph. Kenny was very nice and was very down to earth.

Paul???

Here is Gulliver's Rub-A-Dub as it appeared in the early 70's, before being revamped in 1978. There were several areas of this ride including The Flintstons, Yogi Bears Park, Top Cat City and a Haunted House section. If anyone has additional pictures of this ride, please post them!!! In the mean time, enjoy :)

I very much miss the Sunshine Turnpike as seen behind Fred Flintstone here!

^I really hope that Fred and his car were not destroyed, that would be a major crime.

I've seen pictures of Gulliver's Rub-a-Dub on here before. Could someone please explain to me what it was exactly? I've never been too sure and have always been curious. Thanks!

It was basically a children's water raft ride. It was a small circular boat (not parent friendly) that would very slowly glide around a water canal. It started out with very little scenery and eventually grew to a fully sculpted fiberglass landscape. One employee in the art department commented that his only regret was that management never approved an enclosed ride. So all of the characters and scenery were exposed to weather elements. It was located on part of the land where the boys restroom in the children's area is now. I think pics of this ride are exceptionally rare because it was a kid only ride. I will eventually locate and post pics of the ride being sculpted for the revamp in the late 70's.

Thanks so much for posting those pics. I visited the park as a kid once in 1975, but don't remember it. It's so interesting to see what was in the park at that time, and what I may have seen or rode at the time!

^Thank you so much for the explanation! I kind of thought it might be something like that, but I wasn't completely sure. It sounds like it would've been a pretty cool ride. Kind of sorry I missed it!

I missed it, too. Then again, I was a teenager when Kings Island opened, and I spent very little time in HB land. My brother was 7, but had little interest in rides, he mostly just complained he didn't want to be at Kings Island...he preferred fishing.

what year was this ride taken out? I have only seen a few pictures of it and have never really known what it was until now. I'm thinking it was taken out before I was even born which could be one of the reasons why I have no memory of ever seeing this ride before unless it was my own research.

I have seen very few aerial shots, like the one pictured above in that second link, of the Rub-A-Dub during its final years of its operation. That image affords one of the only shots I've ever seen of the fiberglass landscape as mentioned above.

That would look good in Dinosaurs Alive.

(I am really beginning to worry where Paul is. :( )

Just an FYI this is not Flight Commander at KI. Remember on Flight Commander you entered from the center of the ride. Notice that is not the case in this picture. My guess this is either the one that was KD, or even at Knotts.

Does anyone have a way to contact Paul? It's great that this community is showing this kind of concern for one of our members and I believe he is pleased that there is an attempt to keep his thread going until he returns :) Enjoy this shot of the terra cotta reliefs that were once affixed to the former "Kafe Kilimanjaro" in "Adventure Village"

Sending him a message through this site, YouTube or Facebook (if you're friends with him there) is probably your best bet. One of those methods will hopefully send him an email notification about getting a message (depending on his preferences).

Seriously, Paul, where are you? It's been eleven days since he posted on the site. I know everyone has a right to take a break from things for awhile, but he never mentioned leaving and I don't know anyone who's taken a break from the computer for almost two weeks!

Between the Valentines Day thread, and the obsessive fanboy nonsense, I'm going to assume he's taking a break for a while.
