shark6495 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 True^ or could it have been the multiple people who got over there helped get the ride up or lifted high enough to keep people from going under water, then when one of the park employees gets there can hit the manual release on the ride? Quote
CP&LERR Fan Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I wonder what caused the accident, I mean I watched a video on YouTube of shoot th rapids POV and it was so slow and looked boring, don't think shoot the rapids 2 will last long. Quote
YoungStud Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 You need electric for the intamin restraints.....Someone must have carried a battery over. Quote
TheCrypt Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Uh, no. You don't need electricity for a manual release. Quote
YoungStud Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Uh, no. You don't need electricity for a manual release. Intamins do not have manual releases....You ever see them roll batteries at CP? Quote
TheCrypt Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I would be shocked if they took a battery out into the water on a water ride. 6 Quote
funpark Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I have been stuck on the final breaks before the station on MF and they brought a battery over to release our lap bars . I have seen them do it on maverick also. Quote
shark6495 Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I believe you YoungStud, but part of me really wants to believe that there has to be a non-electrical manual release on a water ride. Quote
thedevariouseffect Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 You probably are able to wiggle out of them with quite some effort. I know how but will not explain how to get out of a locked OTSR on corkscrew, I've done it lol. Anyways there may be a backup to unlock the harness remotely. This can possibly be done either by battery pack or mechanism (pedal, ect.). Quote

Were you riding alone? 1 Quote
thedevariouseffect Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 That's one way out, there is also another way. Ride was e stopped...few people that we had to tell they weren't securing riders well came out and said you can't get out anyways. So while we had trains parked I got in and showed them Quote
YoungStud Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I assume you can slide out the sides of shoot the rapids. there is no way of getting out the lap bars on skyrush however with the bar that goes all the way around. Quote
Guest Department47 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Uh, no. You don't need electricity for a manual release. Firehawk and Invertigo, alongside other KI rides, require battery packs to manually unlock the restraints. 4 Quote
westcoaster Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 why only unlockable if any belts should be on water rides. Accidents etc. happen just a horrific time frame of events for the Flagship the Point: Quote
TheLip2 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Shoot the Rapids needs to go, a good investment by Cedar Point turned to possibly' intamins last good leg with Cedar Fair. How could an accident that no one has determined the cause of change Intamins status with Cedar Fair? It may have been a maintenance issue, it could have been operator error or it even possibly (but appears unlikely in this instance) could have been a problem a guest caused. 1 Quote
Ride On_17 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I believe that the relationship between Cedar Fair and Intamin soured a while ago...but the final straw was with StR. Things had already gone bad before this incident, and I can only imagine how this incident has deepened the conflicts even more. I've seen it said and I've even said it myself: Don't expect another Intamin at a Cedar Fair park any time soon. Sorry, YoungStud. Quote

I will just have to travel to Hershey more often, Hershey/Intamin have a strong relationship. Quote
FOFreak Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I just wanted to add that Holiday World has shut down Pilgrims Plunge indefinitely, following the StR incident, for inspection. 1 Quote
zombiejane Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 It's sad to see that StR had an accident, and that people were injured, but I can't say that I'm surprised. After our last ride on StR, we vowed "NEVER AGAIN!" Every time we've ever ridden it before, the ride ops were very choosy as to who sat in which row. Heavier people went in the front, smaller in the back. They said something about balancing the weight to keep the boat from capsizing. We didn't really think that much about it, until our final ride... We were placed in the front, though we were not the largest in the group loaded (but that's not really what I'm getting at). When our boat left the station, it began to tilt to the left. This wasn't a slight tilt either. My side of the boat was actually coming up out of the water and my b/f's side was almost low enough to start taking on water. The boat had inadvertently been loaded with all of the smaller people on the right and the larger on the left. We estimated that there was a 300 - 400 lb weight difference between each side. With the kind of restraints that ride has, I found myself wondering "if the boat tips over, how do we get out? How do we keep from drowning?" Of all of the rides I have ever been on, this one has scared me the most. Quote
Ride On_17 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 ^Did you contact the park? If not, be sure to send an email or something letting them know your experience. I'm sure they'd be happy to hear from someone who had a far from enjoyable experience, since I'm sure they'd want to look into it. Granted the ride is closed right now, but any feedback they get could affect future plans for the ride. 1 Quote

malem Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 On Tuesday, the on-ride photo monitors were turned on and were displaying pictures of empty boats on the drop. CP's water rides don't open until late May. 3 Quote
thedevariouseffect Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 It along with other water rides have not opened yet. It was slotted for a Memorial Day opening if memory serves correct, but we will see if this ride meets that deadline. 1 Quote
