Cedar Point 2014 Camper Village Mystery

Recommended Posts

So as I'm sure some of you know, it appears as if the Camper Village circle may be removed for next season. Over on PB I have seen various people say that their reservations and plans have had to be altered after being told the circle will be closed. Plus Tony has tweeted several interesting things, such as, "Excited to announce some major new "things" at @aceonlineorg's #NoCoasterCon this coming weekend! (Working on it right now.)" and this mysterious picture: https://twitter.com/TonyClarkCP/status/421710242121281536/photo/1

It sounds like something's in the works, whether it's for a resort or for a Soak City expansion, or anything else. I would definitely be happy with anything, but I'm very interested in the possiblity of this being related to Soak City. The CV circle takes up a decent plot of land, and a water coaster, bowl slide, and maybe several other new attractions could be added. Currently I have no desire to spend a day at SC rather than riding coasters, but if its rides lineup is improved I'd definitely consider it and might try it out. Whetever this turns out to be, it will be a nice mid-winter surprise.

Also if I'm not mistaken this isn't the first time the CV circle has been looked at for removal for future expansion. I posted this on PB but haven't had any responses yet so I'll post it here, and hopefully someone can clarify and help me out with the details. I think I remember reading somewhere on the PB forums a while ago (maybe even several years ago) that the park had proposed a coaster that would run back along Soak City and into the area occupied by the CV circle. The circle would be removed in place of the coaster, but this coaster ended up transforming into what became Maverick and never came to be. I know I read something about this at one point. Can anyone help me out here or support this? I think this discussion started after someone posted a video about Cedar Fair's planning process for future rides, and at one point the camera showed various blueprints and one of them was for this alleged coaster.

^I didn't think about that side of it too. Unless Cedar Fair plans on closing WWK sometime in the near future. I'm not counting on this to happen at all, but you can't rule it out completely. Or maybe they would even sell it off...I'm glad we have some fun speculation to talk about. Granted, it's not for KI and it's not anything terribly major, but it's better than normal offseasons where there's really nothing to speculate and guess about.

CV could very well be moving off-Point to the Rt. 6 corridor East of CP.

CV's size has changed considerably over the past 25-30 years. Pre SC & Magnum, CV was quite possibly triple+ it's current size.

When it comes to Maverick, I believe it was planned all along to take place of WWL which had eclipsed it's lifespan by a handful of years.

That does not mean another coaster has not been in the works for the CV area, but I can't imagine that amount of "ideas" CP receives each year.

And the pic?

It looks to me it is the window of a camper/ motor home with blinds drawn.

Land is $$$$ and CP doesn't have a ton of space left without going into the parking lot or other areas, so my money is on clearing space for more attractions. That being said, camping will be placed elsewhere and made VERY nice.

Remember this too - the Sandusky airport!

Isn't being on location the selling factor of the campground and hotels? If you pick it up and move it inland what is appealing about it?

It depends what you consider "inland".

Many resorts use busses to transport guests from accommodations to the featured attraction. CP does currently do this, but on a much smaller scale.

^Breakers Express is about as far inland as I think they can go before the "on location resort" atmosphere runs out. Any farther and it is just another hotel with bussing service.

Being able to wake up and walk directly into the park is the whole idea behind on location resorts, right?

People who stay at Disney resorts don't complain about having to take a bus or other form of transportation (like the monorai). As long as the park would offer a bus service to the airport if the campgrounds were to be placed there, I think it would be a great decision. Imagine the amazing sunset views out over the lake and of the view of CP. That plot of land has some serious potential for a campsite. I would go for the view alone.

I agree with you guys about it working well at Disney, but those are also Disney quality hotels.

Cedar Point's resorts/campground/Light House Point are no better quality or cost than the hotels a few minutes away (Pre Breakers' renovation). CP is able to sell their rooms because of the beach and walking distance to the park.

I'm not saying an off site campground wouldn't work, I'm just arguing for the sake of conversation. :)

Well, it's pretty much confirmed now that this will be a Lighthouse Point expansion. Check out this article, and pay special attention to the footnote at the bottom of the page and the middle image: http://kdfansite.com/2014/01/kings-dominion-camp-wilderness-expansion/

Will Cedar Fair ever have an addition that doesn't get leaked? Haha they don't have a very good track record with non-leaked projects.

Will they be a more enjoyable stay for people who like those sorts of things? Sure. But it all seems a little weird to me. Four flatscreen TVs seems a little superfluous for a cabin next to Cedar Point... How many nights are people actually spending in these things, and how many hours of TV watching are really happening on those nights?

"Dorm sized fridge." A little silly to market it that way! Maybe not, but wouldn't "compact fridge" or "personal fridge" sound better?

And don't get me started on how I can now poop back-to-back with my best friends with only a cardboard-laminate wall between us. What?! Everyone does it!

I especially like how they went to the lengths of CGI-creating terrible 1990s Holiday Inn bedspreads. Nice and fresh! Haha!

The real kicker is that my first search for the last weekend of May brings these puppies up for $310 plus tax off season. That same price will get you a room at Disneyland's ultra-deluxe Grand Californian Hotel... I guess location is everything, huh?
