I have heard Diamondback has received Seat Belts for this season. Do not know if this is true, but if it is I don't see a reason why it would need a seat belt.

I know one member of this forum who would be qualified to answer that, and he may or may not want to divulge that at this time if it is true.

I will say, though, that I don't know exactly how they would do that with its seat design.

On the Kings Island website, which lists each ride's safety restraint type, Diamondback is only listed as having a lap bar. I doubt they would feel the need to add a seat belt anyway.

Nitro HAD cables. For about four weeks. When it opened...

Nitro Didn't have those when I rode it back in 2009.

Unless it was the first four weeks the coaster was open, they were already removed...

We posted at the same time. What is that other thing with the red type wrapped around it? It looks like it was attached to the train.

The cable extended from the restraint to the seat side. Some riders put their fingers under it, and got hurt during Nitro's abundant airtime. New Jersey then allowed the cables to be removed.

I was going to point out that it didn't have them on Saturday... so yeah, that IS odd. Why the (possible) change, I wonder?

If Intimidator 305 opened this past weekend without seat belts, it would seem odd to add them now after the park has opened. Not to mention, that KI installed seat belts on the ride formerly known as Flight Deck, then ended up removing them last season or the season before.

I do not know of any B&M hyper coaster that has a seat belt on it. I have not heard such a rumor about Diamondback getting seat belts.

If the seatbelts are similar to the cables on Nitro, I could see them being relatively non-intrusive as long as you fit on the ride. As it stands, Diamondback is one of the more "fluffy friendly" of the major rides in the park. That could be impacted. It isn't a problem for me, as I'm nearly as thin as they come, but I could see that keeping people away who could once ride the coaster.

I understand the heightened sense of safety restraints. Just wonder why they weren`t able to implement such a solution earlier so that it could have been included as part of the off season maintenance on the trains, if this rumor is indeed true.

I hope it's not. I have a larger friend who can't fit in many seatbelts at KI, and I only get to ride DB with him.

If seatbelts were added, it'd most likely be the result of a manufacturer recommendation... which, in the state of Ohio, is a requirement.

I may be in the minority on this issue, but if this is true, then great. We should be able to ride a ride without the worry that a restraint will fail. I understand that the extra restraint on DB (as told to me in previous thread) that the seats are designed to keep you from flying out. However, if by adding a belt it can help limit the damages if something fails, then great!

I like Diamondback, but one of my big worries is a restraint failure (on any ride, really). I know the odds of that happenings is minuscule, but I go to a park to enjoy the rides, get freaked out, then be escorted safely back to the station.

If I get too big for a ride, I have two options, lose the weight for it (which I am doing for Disney, I want no surprises there) or not ride it.

There were people on this forum who claimed that Diamondback's restraint "went up" by one "click" last season. Even though the issue was (presumably) investigated and determined not to be a failure of the redundant restraint system, seatbelts would provide reassurance to any guests who experience it.

Then there's the issue of amputees and guests under 54", who the primary/secondary restraint is not designed for, sneaking onto the ride.

IF that is one of the park's concerns, and IF the rumor is true, then I would assume we would see belts more akin to Steel Dragon 2000 than Nitro.

Also, if the rumors are true, then Intimidator will tell the tale next weekend. I'd happily do some investigative reporting if anyone wants to buy me a plane ticket to Charlotte for this weekend. I'd go to the park and ride the ride, and I'd be happy to report back to you

I do not see why Diamondback would need seat-belts. To my knowledge, B&M's HyperCoaster restraints have a perfect safety record, dating back to their first HyperCoaster, Apollo's Chariot in 1999.

If they equipped seat belts, given the recent safety issues at other parks it wouldn't surprise me.

However I will say for what I understand of DB's restraint system is that it has redundancy on top of redundancy. I for what I know understand it has two hydraulic pistons along with a ratcheting mechanism.
