PKI would have to be insane to let someone build something they could build themselves. I think it would be great if they followed CP lead and built their own. One other little thing that would set it apart from the others would be to incorporate some flats or even an indoor coaster inside with it. I know I am dreaming but it would rock!

Looks like the campground may be open next year.

If you look on the PKI website under jobs it shows that they are hiring a campground associate. If they were not planning on having the campground up and running why would they be hiring someone for this.

If they do put in a new hotel then they sould make King's Island Resort like dorms at Cedar Point for employees.  Now that would be B*TCHIN!  laugh.gif

We talked about this the last time we went to Cedar Point. You know we would NEVER get any sleep!

That's true. Party every night. laugh.gif

As much as some are sad to see it go, I think that the new water park resort will help then park out more than the campground has. Plus, as with the Eagles and Tique`s things change for newer and better things. Out with the old in with the new. PKI and Great Wolfs are still negotiating terms of the deal, so who knows, they may end up building a new smaller campground behind the resort.

Campgrounds leaving now? Nice to see Paramount flushing Kings Islands history down the crapper. dry.gif

As much as I like the "old" Kings Island I mean it is a business and I guess they think that the campground won't make as much money as the resort/hotel thing will. I hear that they are just moving the campground to somewhere else near the park.

Yeah but I really wont be staying at that hotel I rather pay the campground fee as for Kings Islands History I knew Paramount would try to erase the parks history I figured that much out when they got rid of the HB characters when there contract was still in tact Paramount can still have Fred Flintstone and crew roam the park they just chose not to because of there own Nicktoon characters.

I really don't think Viacom is trying to destroy anything about PKI's "history." Keep in mind that the "P" in PKI has actually been there for quite some time now...over 1/3 of the park's entire existence. Like it or not, Paramount is already a big part of the history of the park. (In fact, I believe Paramount's ownership since 1993 marks the longest continous stretch of both ownership and management during the park's history.)

The theme park business is high cost and low margin. The reason why a company like Viacom owns parks is to cross promote their other media properties, and to foster goodwill with the public. Of course they're going to feature Nick characters (Viacom-owned) over HB characters (owned by Time-Warner). This "synergy" between media properties is one of the main reasons Viacom owns the parks to begin with... To do otherwise would just be bad business.

Personally, as someone who visited KI for the first time in 1975 when I was five years old and have been going back ever since, I think Viacom (Paramount) has been a good custodian of the park. Back in the late 80s under Carl Lindner's (sp?) ownership the park was looking pretty bad...things were dirty, needed painted, and customer service was half-a** at best. (I was in high school at the time, and I even noticed it.) Within the first few years of ownership Paramount (and then Viacom) improved on these issues greatly.

Finally, all indications are that PKI is planning on building a new campground. A brand new campground...a brand new indoor waterpark/resort...I still can't understand why this isn't a win/win for everyone...

  • 4 weeks later...

Dont fret over it too much.. they are going to build a new campground, at least they plan on it anyways. I have seen the blueprints, but im not sure of the location. And it also looks like it will be pretty badass with a lot of modern amenities (ie: high speed internet hookups on all camsites etc.)and it will be much larger. I also dont see how this isnt win-win, has anyone been to the campground lately? I have and its a straight dump. The facilites are sub-par, the roads are crumbling, some arent even paved, utility hookups for campers are old and dont work right, most campsites are too small for big RVs, the list goes on and on... I honestly think this was the best way, because that place was going downhill fast and would probably have been torn down soon anyways. The campground might have been great back when it was first built, but it hasnt been updated hardly at all since then. It used to have a swimming pool, nice playground, large common area with bbq's and other things. Now the pool is filled in, playground is dilapidated, the concrete patio area by the office is old and cracking, and most of that stuff barely works. So I say welcome to the lodge, I think it will be a great and ineresting addition to the park and i'm excited to see what will happen when its completed. I think PKI needs to turn this page in its history and update things, there no sense keeping something thats old and trashy just because its been around forever. As long as a new campground is built, i'd say things are looking up for the park.

We have been camping as a group ( between 30to 60 people) each year, for 10 days at a time in June for the past 15 years, using the campgrounds. This year will be the first time that we will not going to PKI because of it.. Most of our group already has passes for next year, so we will be going to PKD instead, as they have a campground.. Some of our group need cabins, and the local campgrounds do not have any, but PKD does... Staying for 10 days my family drops over 2000$ at the park and local stores. Now multiply that by 6-10 other families in our group, and that is a chunk of change that will go to PKD this year..

The CG was in bad shape last year, why bother making improvements when you are going to tear it down... I have no problem with the GWL, living in northern Michigan, I have one within a 90 minute drive.. Do we go there? No... Too expensive... Will we go to the PKI GWL, No... Will we return to PKI if there isn't a campground? Yes, but instead of spending a week or more, it would be for a day or two.. So a season pass would no longer be needed, and instead of dropping 2000$+ at PKI, we would spend maybe a couple hundred... Hopefully a new campground is in the works, for 2006..

Rick
