June 8, 201412 yr They cancelled mine... and I was assured park would be open Sunday, though hotels would not be. Based on that, booked room in Sandusky for Sunday night. Now, I have a non refundable room for a park I can't visit Sunday, and a reservation for Mon/Tues that I may or may not be able to use. Should there be a carrot thrown?
June 8, 201412 yr It's frustrating and sucks. Id be upset to. But put yourself on the other side. I can promise you anyone that can do something is doing it to get the park opened as soon as possible. There are tons of upset families and a great deal of money being lost. It sucks but try and make the best of a crappy situation.
June 8, 201412 yr We shall see. Cedar Fair was sure quick to send multiple e-mails trying to upsell my reservation. I had to call to see what was going on today, didn't get anything from them until after 7pm from an automatic email. I will let you all know how it turns out...we will see what kind of customer service they have. I personally think a couple of all day meal passes would not set them back, and, would satisfy my inconvenience.
June 8, 201412 yr Now, I have a non refundable room for a park I can't visit Sunday, and a reservation for Mon/Tues that I may or may not be able to use. Talk to management of the hotel that you made the Sunday reservation with. Most hotels will let you cancel without penalty for exigent circumstances, even when the policy says otherwise. All days of any affected reservation at CP Resorts should be fully refundable if you cancel it.
June 8, 201412 yr Already cancelled and refunded for Sunday, as they knew resort would not be available. My issue is, the lady at reservations this afternoon should have been straight with me, instead of parroting the company narrative. Now, I have no idea if the park will even be open Mon/tues, or the resorts for that matter. A very ham handed response from Cedar Fair. Is there anyone at reservations to speak to tonight about this matter? Of course not...that speaks volumes.
June 8, 201412 yr The "lady at reservations" has a job. She did as instructed. Had she done anything else, she would not be working there now. Decisions may not have even been made yet. I'm sure it's organized bedlam right now. I agree, reservations should be open still. That being said, THEY have no water, either.
June 8, 201412 yr The reservation center is likely on the peninsula, which is currently evacuated and closed....
June 8, 201412 yr Any hoo, off to bed. Getting on the road at 5:30am to drive to the Steel City. First time to PNC Park. My daughter will be sporting her AJ Green jersey, whilst I will be decked in Reds gear, for a Pirates/Brewers tilt.
June 8, 201412 yr Never made it yet...were to check into Hotel Breakers this afternoon. Switched to an off site hotel yesterday afternoon, driving up from Pittsburgh as soon as this ball game is over. Will be there for ERT at 9am, have reservations still for Mon-weds at Breakers, though who knows when they'll let us check in.
June 8, 201412 yr The other thread. I believe it's 4 PM. Goes to check... Yes: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/29606-cedar-point-to-reopen-monday-june-9/page-2#entry622557
June 9, 201412 yr I know, but since there is no one there, was told that we could be at front desk at 8 am, and would be called when rooms were ready. Will likely be earlier.
June 9, 201412 yr I just looked at their webcam. It was rather eerie not seeing people flocking the midways in the middle of summer. I hear it will reopen tomorrow, though.
June 9, 201412 yr Lame...should be working all night to make sure the park can open tomorrow 1. This was Sandusky's fault, not the point. 2. The park was working with Dusky to make sure it was working, and I'm sure this was a 24hr operation. Think, every toilet, fountain, sink, ice machine, etc. all had to be flushed and checked for quality 3. Safety prevails For everyone with reservations on the property, made in good faith, paying triple retail to stay on said property? Making last minute hotel plans, that I cannot cancel for Sun eve? Based on a phone call stating park would likely open on Sunday? When I could have gone to Carowinds instead? To folks who had reservations torpedoed? Yes. I made phone calls too, they did not ever state at least to me the park would be open Sun. They directly stated they were going to try and open as early as possible and to keep calling back to check for updates They cancelled mine... and I was assured park would be open Sunday, though hotels would not be. Based on that, booked room in Sandusky for Sunday night. Now, I have a non refundable room for a park I can't visit Sunday, and a reservation for Mon/Tues that I may or may not be able to use. Should there be a carrot thrown? Who assured you that, I doubt the park actually said "Yes we will be open Sunday" How do you think I feel, I used two days of leave (takes me a month to accrue) left Saturday afternoon after the announcement but still had to pay for an off site hotel in Port Clinton through Sunday, and also disappointed I couldn't enjoy my home park all weekend. This was a completely unforseen circumstance that the park literally had no control over, nor could you pin this on at all, Dusky had the failure not the park. The park isn't going to open a water treatment facility. If that's the case they'll install a power grid to fuel their power hungry rides too right, because that 2003 blackout and a few small power losses since warrant that. Might as well start the CPCG (Cedar Point Coast Guard) to protect His Majesty, Mr Ouimet on sovereign ground.
June 9, 201412 yr I wonder if the Park has insurance to cover a portion of the lost revenues due to an event like the water main break that was beyond their control?
June 9, 201412 yr ^ Cedar Fair owns a diverse collection of parks, so it can "insure" itself against such unforeseeable situations, be it bad weather or a broken water main.
June 9, 201412 yr Not related to the water main break; just some of the footage I took of Raptor during CoasterMania with a song...
June 9, 201412 yr I wonder if the Park has insurance to cover a portion of the lost revenues due to an event like the water main break that was beyond their control? I doubt it, I have never heard of insurance for lost revenues only lost or damaged property.
June 9, 201412 yr A few CP employees allegedly reacted badly to their "snow day". http://www.sanduskyregister.com/article/cedar-point/5746146
June 9, 201412 yr We were able to check into Hotel Breakers at 11:15am. Probably could have earlier, but figures we'd ride for a couple hours, let the huuuuge crowd at registration dissipate. Worked out great. In spite of some online reviews, this renovated Bon Air room is just fine. Nice view of Magnum and TTD our the window.
June 9, 201412 yr ^^Wonder what caused it..Some people mentioned they serve Liquor/Alcohol in the rec center..dunno if that's valid or not. I mean when I was there the rec center was a Subway, Wifi, broken cardio equipment, rusty weights, and a pool table..Classy. Assaulting a cop though..wow..I'm waiting for more details.
June 9, 201412 yr Perhaps somebody had nowhere to stay for the weekend because of the water main break and decided to get a free room at the jail. Transmitted from Wild Space via my datapad's DROID brain
June 9, 201412 yr ^Lol..Think there was a bit more to it than that..I'm sure I'll hear details later..besides with being an arrest it's going to eventually get out on record, and then Sandusky Register will def. report it knowing them.
June 9, 201412 yr I always laugh when a fight makes news. I take the assaulting a police officer with a grain of salt because they will use every little thing to charge you with if they can.
June 9, 201412 yr I wonder if the Park has insurance to cover a portion of the lost revenues due to an event like the water main break that was beyond their control? I doubt it, I have never heard of insurance for lost revenues only lost or damaged property. It's called business interruption insurance. It's not cheap. Last I heard, Cedar Fair is self insured.

I'd assume they didn't have business interruption insurance. Then again, the city may have to compensate. Terpy?
