tjwood06 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Why does everyone say this is a rough coaster all the time. We rode it Sunday and it wasn't all that bad. Now Blue Streak on the other hand was the worst wooden coaster I have ever been on! 1 Quote
The Interpreter Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Everyone doesn't say that all the time. 9 Quote
TheBEASTunchained Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I, for one, have never claimed that Mean Streak is rough, and actually enjoy the ride..... ....TheBEASTunchained.....Wondering if he is included in "everyone"..... 2 Quote
Sonofbeast2.0 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Love Mean Streak! I rode it at dusk and the screeching the ride made with the combo of a few bumps, it was an amazing ride! What caught me off guard the most was the fact that it stops on a fairly steep slop right before the station. This is defiantly up their with my favorite wooden coasters! 2 Quote
tjwood06 Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 Guess I shouldn't say everyone. I have just heard it before and I was surprised when it wasn't at all rough. 2 Quote
jcgoble3 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 In the front seat, it is a great wooden coaster. In any other seat, count me out. 5 Quote
TombRaiderFTW Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I think Mean Streak has its decent seasons. I don't find it amazing, but it's not the worst ride ever. Blue Streak I actually find to be a lot of fun, and I'm curious to know where you sat when riding. It's definitely a violent ride, but the airtime in the first car usually more than makes up for it, in my opinion. 3 Quote
kblanken Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I don't say Mean Streak is rough. Possibly banal, dull, lackluster, prosaic, insipid... I consider it the Goofus to the Gallant that is Blue Streak. Maybe you just don't like airtime? What you you consider Kings Island's Racer? 4 Quote
Ride On_17 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 If you sat on a wheel seat on Blue Streak, I can see how you thought it was rough. Next time sit in the middle of a car, as to avoid this. I've had some really smooth rides on that coaster when doing that. And I 100% agree with jcgoble3. Mean Streak is pure torture in any seat other than the front row. 3 Quote
tjwood06 Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 We sat in the 3rd row on Blue Streak and 2nd row on Mean Streak. Quote
Ride On_17 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Next time, be sure to ride in middle row on Blue Streak, and I guarantee your ride will be a night and day different from what you previously experienced. 3 Quote
tjwood06 Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 ^^^I love Racer I think it's very smooth compared to Blue Streak. I felt like I was violently flung against the lap bar over the small hills and it hurt somewhat. 1 Quote
jcgoble3 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 ^^^ ...both of which are wheel seats. On Blue Streak, sit in the middle row of an individual CAR (not middle of the train). That way you won't be sitting directly over top of a wheel, and you won't feel the bumps nearly as bad. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference. On Mean Streak, I am unable to comprehend how in the world you failed to find the second row excessively rough. Wow. Your definition of "rough" is clearly different from mine. 4 Quote
malem Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 On Mean Streak, I am unable to comprehend how in the world you failed to find the second row excessively rough. Wow. Your definition of "rough" is clearly different from mine. Try the last row of the train. (Actually, don't.) 4 Quote

(The upward flinging, not necessarily the hurting aspect.) 4 Quote
Gplez90 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Mean Streak has gotten increasingly more enjoyable over the years. It's actually not a very rough ride anymore. Riding in the front seat is preferred though. 1 Quote
bkroz Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 There have been a few times I've ridden Mean Streak and promised it would be my last. But summer 2013 cemented it. I'm done. Ouch. Truly horrible, and I was sincerely off the rest of the day. Like any wooden coaster, the experience differs season to season, month to month, even day to day. But I'm done with Mean Streak. Seriously. Your experience may differ. And it did! But I know what I felt just like you know what you felt. Quote

tjwood06 Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 I think everyone just feels something different. Maybe too capacity plays a role in the ride as well? I was on a train with 5 others. Quote

Nothing else has ever done that. Considering that you liked Son of Beast enough to put it in your username, your tolerance for such things is probably higher than mine. As always, individual results will vary. 5 Quote
electricsun Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Oh Mean Streak. Last time I rode it last season with a friend, we both got off with headaches that lasted for most of the day. Rode it once this season and ignored it for my second visit. I want to like it...but eh. Some rides are worth having to ride a certain way to enjoy it. This one is not one of them for me. I think it is fascinating that this ride (and others) gives such a wide range of experiences and strong feelings. 4 Quote

Now Blue Streak on the other hand was the worst wooden coaster I have ever been on! While I happen to really like Blue Streak, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for saying nice things about Mean Streak. It's my favorite woodie, and I, too, do not understand the hate for it. It's often lonely in the Dinn fan club. But it's a club that somebody has to be in. -Homestar92, enormous fan of Mean Streak, Predator, and Thunder Run. 4 Quote
Hoeter Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I did front row on both Mean Streak and Blue Streak when I was at Cedar Point a few months back. Both were actually quite enjoyable...no complaints here 4 Quote
MDMC01 Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 My Mean Streak experience has varied... it's been from not bad (more than 5 years ago) to super-rough (5 years ago) to pretty good (on my June visit). So, I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder and depends on the day. The last time I rode I was thinking of this song quote: "I'm not where I want to be, but I'm not where I used to be" (KJ-52, Brand New Day). This quote sums up how I currently feel about Mean Streak as those last rides were much better than the super rough version of Mean Streak from 5 years ago, but I think the ride's experience could be slightly improved. Edit: I modified the song lyric because I quoted it wrong Quote
KIBeast Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I enjoy Mean Streak as well. Never thought it was too rough. I wonder if people have just gone soft. I don't ever remember hearing how rough any wood coasters are until the last 10-15 years. Keep in mind that I never thought Son of Beast was too rough. A bit rough, yes. Too rough for my taste...no. Quote
Bennett Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Love Mean Streak! I don't know why the ride gets so much grief. Blue Streak is just a cool, old, classic ride. Wouldn't be right if it was smooth as glass, now, would it? 3 Quote
calakapepe Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Mean Streak is ok. Not too rough though.Blue streak is tons of fun! Not too rough though. Quote
Cdeq Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Mean Streak is a rough coaster but not as bad as El Toro. Quote
Aaron88stang Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 I skipped Mean Streak this year but I rode it a couple years ago. I did not really find it rough but just not that fun. It seemed slow and a boring layout. Blue Streak on the other hand is great fun. I would not call it rough at all. 2 Quote
The Interpreter Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Mean Streak is a rough coaster but not as bad as El Toro. Rough and violent are two different things. El Toro is violent. It is not rough. Son of Beast was rough, it was not violent. 6 Quote
