calakapepe
Id rather stick to the free water cups. Its better for me, better for my wallet, and more satisfying, if Im actually thirsty and not just wishing for something sweet. (In which case a frozen lemonade is my girl)
Creed Bratton
Wasn't sure where to put my post, so I figured here would work! First let me say I'm a fan of all season drinks. I think it's nice paying one price and not having to worry about paying more later on for drinks. However, I'm not a fan of carrying the souvenir cups. While yes, they're great souvenirs, I find them a pain in the rear end and even more costly than priced. I think about the rides where you can't bring your cup to the station (I'm talking Cedar Fair chain wide, not just Kings Island) you have a handful of options. One option, buy a locker. The locker usually gives you a couple of hours for a few bucks. You can choose to stay in that area or go to another area (but have to make it back within your time frame or you have to pay more) thus costing you. If you go to another ride that requires a locker, that's more $ out of your pocket. Multiply that by multiple visits. You potentially would be paying more than it cost to purchase a new souvenir cup just in locker fees. The other option is hiding your souvenir cup somewhere you'll remember to get it. The potential problem with this, is theft (which also can happen in bins on rides). If you bought your all season drinks cup I'm assuming each person would want a cup, so you'd have to buy a replacement cup, potentially adding to the cost you already put into the original purchase. The third option is to leave it with a friend. That is assuming your friend is willing to not ride and watch your cup. That to me is really the only down fall for this option, as your friend may not get to experience some things that you do because they're holding your cup (that is assuming they don't want to ride ___). So where am I going with all of this? I spoke with Jason McClure at Cedar Point on Saturday after the presentation the park gave about the upcoming year. I had said, first want to thank you for everything we've seen today, you've shared and more. I have a question, I know that the system in parks for all season dining when implemented all that was needed was some coding and an option to be added to the MICROS screens for Season Passes to be used to "purchase" food at each location that is offered on the plan. I am wondering if it's possible to add the option for all season drinks. Where you just scan your pass so you can grab a drink instead of having to carry around a souvenir cup." He said that's a great idea but he can't make that call. He encouraged me to email him, the park and corporate with the idea if it's something I would like to see. He said that's the best way to have something added/evaluated for the parks is to make direct contact with a sort of paper trail. He then thanked me for my idea and told me again to email him.So, if it's something you'd like to see, email KI, Cedar Point, Cedar Fair!
CoasterDirected
Drink cups are practically useless at Cedar Point
IndyGuy4KI
That has been my whole beef with the cups as well Chris. I go to the park solo quite a bit, so hanging on to a cup all day is impractical. If I take the whole family where I have the stroller with me, then putting one in there is fine. I would pay a little more than a season cup where I could get a disposable cup each time sort of like we have seen in the past with the drink wristbands.
BoddaH1994
I pitched the idea of paying for the "privilege" of getting $1 as a season pass or app add on. I guess they didn't like my idea.
The Interpreter
Let's add the unsanitary nature of refillable cups. For the user. For the food service employees. And is it really safe to drink acidic carbonated drinks from cheap Chinese plastic? I've already used cups for years our Government told us were safe...then changed their minds... And as for hiding cups, I once saw a teen grab a cup from a bush, spit in it, and put it back. I told Security. Their response? "Good. The cup owner should have rented a locker!". Really?
Creed Bratton
I received an email back at 10:45 pm tonight from Jason McClure, Cedar Point VP/General Manager. This is what it said:Christopher, Thanks for your feedback. I will share with appropriate members of our team. Glad you enjoyed the Winter Chill Out. I hope Tony delivers the same weather next year. Take care. Jason McClure Whether or not it goes further or gets looked at anytime soon, I'm thankful to get a response, thankful that Mr. McClure took time out of his evening at home to email me back at 10:45 pm.
calakapepe
It really ought to be implemented. It may drive in a higher price for the increased cup stock for the parks, or for lower quality cups being used for the season pass all season drinks holders. But I think that's ten-folds better than bringing your cup everywhere, spending money on lockers or risking someone stealing it from the bins because now it's a valuable, unattended item.
jcgoble3
Even better: for season pass drink plans, serve the "free" drinks in smaller, 12 oz. cups at the snack stands, since if we're getting a quick drink there, it's unlikely we're going to want a full 20 oz. cup. I know that the few times I used the old wristbands, I found myself either dumping half the cup, or specifically asking for only half a cup, most of the time outside of meals. Save the 20 oz. cups for the stands that serve meal food, where it's more likely that people will sit down and drink the whole thing along with their meal.
