jcgoble3
Per the park's website, Facebook, and Twitter, Kings Dominion will be closed this evening due to the approach of Hurricane Joaquin. KD currently plans to open as scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, although guests should continue to check the website and the park's social media for updates and presumably more potential closures.
PyroKinesis
Interesting, especially considering new tracks have it going far far away from any coastlines.
The Interpreter
That doesn't mean the forecasts here aren't for heavy rain tonight. They are.
The Interpreter
The Virginia State Fair, also in Doswell, which was to run through Sunday, has now shut for the year.
jcgoble3
That doesn't mean the forecasts here aren't for heavy rain tonight. They are. Uh, yeah. (Credit: WHIO-TV Dayton Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell) As I commented, apparently the predicted rain around Myrtle Beach is too much for FutureCast's coloring algorithm to handle. EDIT: Carowinds has also tweeted in reply to someone that they expect to be open tomorrow (Friday), but that may change.
Colonel_SoB_fan
I'll be in Myrtle Beach next Thursday through Sunday. From what I read at NOAA lay night by the time Joaquin hits the area it will be tropical storm conditions. malem
Carowinds is closed tonight as well. Not really a surprise with that rain projection map.

silver2005
I haven't seen any of the SIX parks in the line of this storm say anything yet, though, I imagine that'll change for SFoG, SFA and NJFTP.
PhantomTheater
NJFTP will not opened tonight, SFA was not sceduled to begin with.
Gabe
Compounding the problem is a stagnant low pressure system lingering off the lower and middle east coast. Joaquin is still a huge storm, so when its rain bands co-mingle with the low pressure system already there, it's going to cause major flooding. Joaquin in and of itself, given its track, isn't all to blame.
electricsun
Many events in Charlotte have been cancelled. The Carolina Renaissance Festival is also delaying its opening day to Sunday because of the unique weather conditions. We had a packed weekend of the boy's Friday halftime show and Saturday band competition as well as Autumn of Oz. All three have been cancelled. I do understand the why behind the cancellations, it's just disappointing.
Oldiesmann
Consider yourselves lucky in Charlotte. Charleston, SC is getting torrential rains and serious flooding right now. The National Weather Service there reports that they've seen 5-9 inches of rain since 4pm yesterday with more to come...
electricsun
A high school friend lives near Charleston and has been sharing pictures from the local news. Thankfully, we are a bit west of Charlotte. Last night the wind and rain picked up for a against the house. We were talking about going to the Carolina Renaissance Festival tomorrow before I drive home. Nope, they closed for tomorrow too. The combination of the hurricane and fronts are doing a number on all the scheduled events this weekend.
