Hi sixohdieselrage! Welcome to KICentral!

Same here, I wonder when they will announce something? Have an announcement to say they are going to have an announcement, that would be funny! lol

Thanks!

Honestly, the way Don is, I could see that happening. (Best PR guy I have seen)

I would expect it would to be in August, due to it being the standard for major announcements in the chain. If it is something major, as a coaster per say I'd expect a countdown clock similar to Valravn or Fury 325 on the Kings Island website in Late July or Early August.

This conversation is really interesting, and it looks to be similar to the Decoding 2014 discussion.

However, I would not have expected FUN to give a coaster to Kings Island so soon after Banshee. It is understandable why Cedar Point would get Valravn so soon after Gatekeeper, as it is their "flagship" park. I mean, why hasn't Kings Dominion gotten any coaster yet? They probably aren't getting one for 2017, which would be 7 years since Intimidator 305.

I definitely wouldn't want to lose the Mid-Atlantic to Busch Gardens.

It's been covered in the thread but a quick synopsis:

We're not "all" anything, much less "sure."

For me, personally viewing what is going on in the area made me think coaster. Prior to arriving at the park preview night, I didn't think it would be.

Those things I saw:

The extensive area in which the survey markers and marked trees appear.

That work is being done in those areas this early.

That the survey markers and painted trees (some of which have already been cut) appear to be following paths rather than clear-cutting a larger area as would be expected for a flat.

Those are the high points, there are other subtleties, and many others have their own reasons I'm sure. Read the thread. Look at the pictures. Put your own eyes on the scenes if at all possible. Draw your own conclusions.

Typically new attraction announcements are in August.  We should be able to have a pretty good idea on what we are getting before the announcement though.  If they start clearing large amounts of land we should know if it is a coaster or not and possibly get an idea on how large it will be and the path pretty quickly.  As soon as the first footers are complete we will know the manufacturer of the attraction.  B&M for instance has a very different appearance which is very obvious.  The size of the footers will clue us into how large the ride will be, just take a look at the lift hill of Fury 325.  Assuming it is a B&M we should see track coming out of the plant around July or August.

It basically comes down to money.  King's Island is number three in the chain in profits only Knott's and Cedar Point make more money.  With the land issues at Knott's it leaves King's Island right behind Cedar Point for new attractions.  King's Dominion would also be behind Canada's Wonderland and Carowinds.  To give you an idea on just how much more King's Island makes it is around what Carowinds and King's Dominion make combined.  They are big enough to justify big coasters but not no where near as frequently as King's Island or Cedar Point.  If this is a Giga I suspect it will be around 5 years before another major coaster at Kings Island, unless there is an uptick in attendance or per cap spending.

After seeing how interesting this has gotten, I finally decided to make an account and subscribe to this thread!

So, Hello everyone!

Whatever is being planned/built, I'm super excited either way.

From what I have heard, and it makes sense, but the only reason Knott's is higher than KI is due to being open all year round.

Can someone clarify that?

Also, let's see if I edited the quote correctly.

This is what I saw over by the fort, I believe someone posted something similar. I didn't see any markers in that area, but it's a pretty open area.

would be pretty cool if a coaster in that area was tall enough that we could see into fort coney
I've always wanted to see what it looks like inside. I've always wanted to GO inside but that'll never happen.

I've been in the house-in-the-fort at KI a few times.  Last time was well over 10 years ago.  I never trespassed - was always with a park employee escort.  When I was in there, the house was the exact opposite of interesting.  It literally was full of trash, old rotten furniture and abandoned junk.  It was no doubt just left as-is when the original owners vacated.  There were no secrets to be seen, no hidden ride parts, nothing but an abandoned junk riddled old house.  Unless something changed since Cedar Fair took over (which I doubt it has) then there's no real merit to the intrigue of the house in the fort.  I always get a kick out of the speculation about it, especially since I know first hand it looked something very similar to this picture:

I'll try and see if I can go to Kings Island next week while I am in Northern KY. It would be great to go see the construction site.

I honestly think it will be some sort of wooden coaster after reviewing this thread. The "Beware Falling Trees" kind of implies that trees will be used in the construction.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what is to come for 2018!

Shaggy, Do you know why Kings Island kept the old house rather than dismantling it and only hiding it with the fort?
