My question is what rides would you like to see open during WinterFest in the future; honestly I would love it if somehow WindSeeker or The Beast would be open during WinterFest, but what do all of you think? johnjniehaus Posted November 8, 2024 Share Posted November 8, 2024 Adventure Express and Backlot would be the only other coasters because they are more family type attractions. In terms of flats, Viking Fury would be fun and I would also like to see the Monster open but that might not be possible considering how many parts there are to take apart and put together during the off season for that ride. Something in Action Zone would be a welcome addition to the ride lineup but all of those rides would be so COLD!!! I'd even be willing to settle for Orion, can't imagine it wouldn't make it through the layout when it hits the brakes at highway speeds. These are usually set by the manufacturer, meaning if the park decides to run it anyway and something happens, they have no legal recourse against the manufacturer. The reason Wooden coasters can operate in freezing temperatures because wood is more flexible than steel. The Beast is older and might get worn down faster if it runs in the winter. This would also allow for some more amazing night rides on the legendary Beast!!! If they opened a few other rides, it would definitely bring a lot more people to KI during Winterfest because there are more rides open. They should do what Carowinds does with their rides. Kudos to KI for allowing more rides to be open, though! I will say walking The Beast every morning would probably not be very fun especially when it gets snowy and below freezing. I feel like that would be a nightmare for the maintenance people. I don't really see them adding another coaster since I'm not really sure which ones could operate safely/efficiently anyways in lower temps. I know the startup temp has to be 30-35 degrees for most coasters. But I really don't see them willingly running another coaster seeing as they added Racer and SSBR last year making a total of 4 coasters. I suppose if they wanted to run another flat they could, but really which flat could they really run? I'd love to see Delirium run during WF, but I think a lot of folks would skip it because of how cold it would be. I also am not sure of the temp specs required for a Huss Giant Frisbee to safely start up/operate. I feel like Delirium can't really be much more complex than say, Sol Spin. I was honestly shocked Sol Spin has been part of the WF lineup seeing as the hydraulic lines are mostly exposed. But it seems to run just fine in the cold and I feel like its actually more fun with the chilly air. It'll be interesting if they do add something, just not really sure what else they could add that would be able to handle the colder temps and safely operate since a lot of our flats are older, prototypes or haven't had a full overhaul. Well it would be hard to run Drop Tower regardless of temperature because of the "snow tubing" right next to it. They would have to move the tubing somewhere else.
