Kong at PKI?

Does anyone know if Universal holds exclusive theme park rights to King Kong or if it would be possible for Paramount Parks to theme a ride after the Paramount Pictures remake of King Kong (1976)? It's sort of weird how Universal had theme park rights to Kong when only Warner Bros. and Paramount actually made movies huh.gif Universal didn't even start planning their Kong remake with Peter Jackson untill 1996, when it got the axe, and was later resurrected a few years back. I would really like to see Kong in PKI, even if it was a hand-me-down from Universal (doubt that would ever happen)! Who knows, maybe there's a loophole that Paramount Parks can take advantage of to get Kong in the parks rolleyes.gif I may be wasting my time but would just like to find out anyway!

you're probably thinking of the "CONGO" movie experience, which was housed in the large bubble (laser tag arena) next to the old flight commander site.... it was here i beleive in maybe 1997 and featured a lot of props and mechanics from the movie, based on gorillas, if you've never seen...

I know at one time paramount held the rights to King Kong but the funny thing is when Donkey Kong was released in the 80's universal tried to sue nintendo and it turns out universal didnt even own the rights.

I hate the fact Universal took out the King Kong ride at Universal anyone hear that JAWS:the ride is getting closed in jan?

JAWS, that ride was ok. Only because I always sat in the seat where you could never see anything!!! sad.gif

I sat in the fire seat, I was much younger, and I was terrified... the seat on the right got a lot of heat to it... just how you want to spend a hot July Florida day, getting even hotter...

It was awesome though!!

Can anyone answer my question or does no one know where the theme park rights to Kong stand [Warner Bros. (1933), Paramount Pictures (1976), or Universal Studios (2005)]? I know Universal Studios Florida used to have a Kong ride (Kongfrontation) that was outstanding in the theme department (I really felt I was in 1933 New York City), and it was removed in 2004 to make way for Revenge of the Mummy (I don't like it as much)! I do know that the Kong portion featured in Universal Studios Hollywood's: Studio Tour, the inspiration for the Florida attraction, still resides on the tram tour today so they must have some rights. While Universal can undoubtedly make a better Kong attraction then Paramount, I would still love to see him in PKI!

As for Universal Studios Florida's Jaws ride closing, it's a RUMOR! It is not closing and will open from it's current rehab on December 16th! - amityboattours.com

I just thought of something reguarding War of the Worlds, why doesn't Paramount Parks just theme there attractions after the original movie? The original is just as good, if not better then Speilberg's version, and would easily make a good theme for a ride (a 50's setting with aliens would be awsome). I may be all alone on this though as I'm sure alot of you haven't seen the orginal and PKI probably will put that into account when considering something like this (even though the two films are way too similar to worry about that though)!

Universal still has King Kong in Hollywood its part of their tram ride. Jaws is a very good ride I don't think it will be closed for long time just so they can paint and clean up some areas.

Thats a good point about the original WOTW however, due to technicalitys paramount probably cant market it well. One of the things that best markets the new rides like IJ and TRTR is who starred in the movies.......people like Angelina Jolie and CHarlize THeron.......they can market the newer motion picture better because it has speildberg and cruises name on it. Most people probably dont know that the movie is based on a book and an earlier movie. If paramount were to theme a ride after the 1950's movie and Universal a ride after the newer one, UNiversal could probably come up with some claim like they own the rights to name an attraction after that movie franchise and thus Paramount could not create a themed ride.

How about this loophole, both of the Paramount Pictures movies are titled The War of the Worlds while the Paramount television series was just called War of the Worlds laugh.gif Oh boy, not only am I off topic but I'm also sounding pretty stupid right now!

I take it no one knows where the theme park rights to Kong stand unsure.gif
