deidre1976
How much land does the park have avalible to expand? how far in which direction?
Pirate of PKI
The last time I checked the perimeter around the base divided by 3.14 multiplied by the areas around Action Zone, add that to the square feet of River Town and then divide by the circumfrance of the extra land to find the equation for 3945.42, find the volume of that multiplied by the square foot of Action Theater so that gives you 3.342.242, then you'll need to subtract parking lot square foot and divide 92.13 and get the equation multiplied by 10,636. Thrill_Biscuit
If you have a sat/map like Google Earth, for example, you can zoom in on PKI (at about 1 meter resolution!). The image there is from 1993, so you can get a good visual idea of how much land is available for development (you'd have to know what the parks official boundries are, though. I don't). BoddaH1994
I think they own all the way out to the Little Miami River.

TheRickster
The image is from late 2003, you can see delerium in it. I thought you used to be able to see some of boomerang bay going up as well, but maby they changed it or im just imagining things.
pkimike
I was told at one time the The Racer is about the middle of the property. Don't know how far back they go but based on The Beast I would say they could go back pretty far.
Face/OffJZ
dont worry, they have alot of land left way back behind Psyco Path
ttdmfwtm
Someone asked this question at Beastbuzz, Maurine told the answer. Im not sure but I think they have like 700 acres.
HaUsTy83
They have 700 total acres all together? Or have 700 left?
ttdmfwtm
I think it was 700 total with less than 400 used.
WooferBearATL
There's quite a bit of land in the unused Animal Habitat Area. It goes pretty far back.
cewldre
the park, if I remember correctly, doesn't quite have 700, more like 570 or something, acres of course. We use a tad more than half. Again, I am not 100%, but I wanna say 340 acres used, or so.
CoastersRZ
The numbers that I heard was that the park still owns 752 acres. Of those 752 acres, the park has developed approximately 364 of those. Yes, the park owns all the way down to the Little Miami River. But they will probably never develop the land down by the river for several reasons. One being the topography back there is extremely hilly, as anyone who has been on Psycho Path can attest to. Secondly, I believe that there is a wildlife sanctuary, protection area on PKI property down in the Miami River Valley. Third, and probably related to why there is an animal sanctuary (pt. #2) on PKI property is that the Little Miami is a state and National Scenic River. As such there are quite a bit of regulations on the river and what can be built around and near the river.

jzarley
Yes, I've always heard that PKI's land extended to the river as well. I'd definitely recommend downloading Google Earth (for the fact that it's so cool if nothing else <g>). It gives you a really good feel for how much land there actually is. Gordon Bombay
Has anyone ever seen how Hershey park had to build "the great bear" since legally it was allowed to extend over the water of the river its near but no supports or structure could be in the water. Face/OffJZ
they should open up a new section of the park behind SOB's helix and by the remains of KC...........i would just wana go back there for the sights!
WooferBearATL
There is some beautiful area back there. There is a gourge that is over 100 feet deep right behind Son of Beast. Very Perty!
Outdoor Man
CoastersRZ... i believe you are right. However, if I am not mistaken and someone can correct me here- but of the 752 acres, I think they sold some of it off a few years ago.... but still have a lot undeveloped..... not landlocked like our friends to the north.
CoastersRZ
No, I don`t bellieve they sold any off. The campground land might now be owned by Great Wolf. Not exactly sure if PKI`s 15% stake was in exchange for the land, or if they are leasing the land to GW and are 15% partners for providing the land. Originally, the park consisted of 1600 acres, but the park sold much of that off. They used to own the tennis and gold centers across the street as well as the Kings Island Inn and Conference Center. To the best of my knowledge, no land has been sold within the last several years save for the possibility of the campground lands.
Outdoor Man
you're right... the 1600 number was what I was thinking of.... and wooferbear is right... there is one heck of a steep gorge behind the park. I drove past it one time years ago when I worked in cincinnati... '96 or '97.... but i thought it was behind The Beast, not Son of Beast.... or maybe it encircles the park.... where is it at? WooferBearATL
It may go all the way around in some manner. I remember when the wilderness trail used to be open and that is one hilly area.
TQZ
At last check, I counted 630 acres. See this thread for more information. http://www.pkicentral.com/forums/index.php...wtopic=5776&hl=
RailRider
I think the hilly terrain around PKI lends itself to the possibility of another great terrain coaster being developed. Look at Beast, makes use of its terrain quite well. Maybe use the gorge like they do with Phantoms Revenge. Just a thought, but expanding into a new land would be very cash intensive. WooferBearATL
Actually I think that they need to work on the deteriorating themes that they already got without the worry of developing more land.
