Captain Picard
I was there and all I noticed was the stink coming from the air compressor running down below the station.

BoddaH1994
Hope it burns down...I mean...I hope everything...was fine...yeah, thats what I mean.... I don't know if you've ever been near a burning house before, but the heat is a lot more ambient than you might think. We were burning down a house one time in Louisville (I'm a fireman, not a criminal!!) and I was probably 100 yards away and still had to throw my turnout coat on because of the heat. If a 218ft wooden structure went up in a crowded park I assure you, people would get hurt.

The Interpreter
False Alarm. The ride was back in operation by 5:35p.m, according to local fire officials.

Or something like that. <G>
CoastersRZ
Well, I know when I visited PKD in 2000, you could feel the heat from the flame off the top of Volcano from down on the midways around the ride. Very interesting to hear about this false alarm. At least the park took the proper precautions and called in the fire department to investigate. Snake Attack!
I was just hanging out watching TV when my mom came and told me of the news, and how it was on the news. Why is this even on the news, nothing close to a fire was found. Does this mean that if i get myself and a buddy tell ride ops at Vortex that i smell smoke and think the ride is on fire i will get on the news no way i would do that though, just having fun. King Maple The Tree King
That information was wrong, it was The Beast that had the fire scare. I was in line at the time and over heard two area managers speak of it. The crew and management team handled itperfectly and kept all guests informed. They were ocnstantly guest relating, they were efficent and I felt they handled the situation perfectly. Not something I've seen at KI in the past. But yes, this was on The Beast not the Son of Beast.

PKIVortex
SOB isn't one of my favorite coasters out there, but it's not my worst one either. I actually enjoyed my ride on it this year, except for the first helix.
HelixSpiral
But yes, this was on The Beast not the Son of Beast. Indeed. Apparently, the news was wrong. That never happens....
vortexdemon05
...Does this mean that if i get myself and a buddy tell ride ops at Vortex that i smell smoke and think the ride is on fire i will get on the news Why does it have to be Vortex ... Vortex is my Best Friend i dont want it to die in a fire lol but when Flight of Fear cought fire it wasnt on the news (that i know of) so why was this??? CoasterKrazy
If a 218ft wooden structure went up in a crowded park I assure you, people would get hurt. I can't imagine that anyone would be hurt from Son of Beast burning down anymore than people are hurt from riding Son of Beast. At least the burning scenario would provide something pretty to look at.
Snake Attack!
You know I believe that it was The Beast, it was closed today for the first part of operations and I talked to a park goer who said that they could not go on The Beast yesterday but could go on sob all day
CoastersRZ
Well, I rode The Beast yesterday around 1. I smelled smoke, but I thought it was just from someone smoking in line. (That and the fact that the operator came on declaring that smoking was not permitted in any ride line at Kings Island). The reason The Beast was closed was probably not because of that though. King Maple The Tree King
^The Beast crew is one of the finest, if not the finest, among the great ride operating crews at Paramount's Kings Island.
TRTR Guy
FOF caught fire? I never heard this one... That brings back memories of 2001. And as for The Beast, why didn't they just have an associate ride and inspect it like usual.
Kenban
FOF caught fire? I never heard this one... Well my understanding is that it was the electrical box that connects to the LIM's. The amount of power needed to launch the coaster is massive and that much current generates a lot of heat.
CoastersNSich
Of course, some people are unhappy that there was no fire (i.e. some on CoasterBuzz). P.S. I'm not one of them. That's good news.

And as for The Beast, why didn't they just have an associate ride and inspect it like usual. Why take the chance? Whenever there has been a threat of fire they dont risk it by having some ride theough a potentially dangerous situation to inspect it, maybe when someones complaining about a rough piece of track an associate will test ride but not if theres a threat of a fire. When a guest complained of smoke one train was in the station and the other two trains were directly behind that in the other sets of breaks. I saw the associates cycle off the guests then managers come to the situation after that.
PKIMaureen
Greetings from the PR desk of Paramount's Kings Island. It was The Beast that was closed and inspected on Sunday. Here's the scoop: Two guests reported that they smelled smoke while on the ride. The associates did the absolute right thing and shut down the ride at approximately 4:30 p.m. Fire and Safety called Mason Fire Department as a precaution, and they inspected the ride thoroughly. No fire was found, and the ride was reopened by 5:35 p.m. The ride still stands! SOB still stands! The park is now open daily! (hehe.....that is the PR girl in me talking) Have a great day!!
