Maybe it's too early and information just isn't sinking in with me yet, but I'm kind of confused re: this article... So, is the proposal (assuming they don't get what they want from SF) to build the stadium in the current PGA parking lot, which means another parking solution (i.e., a garage) would need to be developed, or is it talking about replacing PGA all together?

I've also found that usually when people say "we're not trying to leverage one against the other..." that's exactly what they're doing

I think it was said that there was one park in the chain that Cedar Fair didn't want. Cedar Fair does not own the land PGA sits on so it was my guess that PGA was it. It was also said at one time that Viacom considered closing PGA.

To me it doesn't look like it would take much for them to close it and relocate rides.

But, you have to remember that it is generating income for Cedar Fair.

To me, it suounded like the stadium would simply be built in the parking lot, and that the park could stay open. But as others have said, there are too few details. Not to mention that the option is an alternative to their first choice.

^ yeah, I was thinking the same thing...except in this case the park operator doesn't own the land, so there is less incentive to bail on the park operation, unless the city and the 49ers make it worth their while...

I'm sure it was part of the reams of disclosure information during the acquisition process, but does anyone recall the length of the current lease agreement on the land at PGA?

I disagree. PGA is in northern CA, which was untapped by Cedar Fair. If they don't own the land then they likely won't make much money on the transaction. Sounds like CF should fight to keep the park.

Are Top Gun, Vortex, or Psycho Mouse at PGA any good? They could send any one of those here. Unless there's some kind of big terrain difference.

All three coasters are excellent rides. But I see a number of Cedar Fair parks they might end up in long before they did at KI, assuming that PGA even closes, which doesn't seem likely at this point. Possible, but not likely.

I took a look at the satellite view on Google maps and it looks to me to be possible to keep the park and build a stadium still. If you look across the canal there is a second parking lot, a soccer field, 2 football fields, and a building or two. No idea what the buildings are or if the fields are public or not but its enough room for a parking garage large enough to service a stadium and could easily handle the park as well. It looks to me like if this is where its decided to put the stadium it should be possible to keep the park.

No where in the article does it say Great America would close it just says if the current plan does not work out they will try to use the parking lot as a backup.

All the area of which you write used to be part of Great America. It was sold off while the city ran the park. That's an industrial park, and I really don't see that becoming a part of the park again unless both the city and Cedar Fair wanted it to, and were willing to invoke condemnation to make it happen. Somehow, I just don't see that happening. Then again, I don't see a football stadium happening in Santa Clara either....

They wont sell Great America for a few reasons.... 1: why would they? 2: CF doesnt own any parks in Northern Cali and they can really market this park really well here. They have a 50 year lease! 3: The 49rs SUCK!!!!!
