The Interpreter
I just hope it is sit-down table service. KI needs that, and badly. Fest Haus is not my idea of a centerpiece restaurant for a park the likes of Kings Island. That dark, dank dungeon with tepid food is a shadow of its former self. KIfan73
The only time that FestHaus has ever "made sense" to me was this year at FearFest. It was freezing cold out, so it was a warm place to go, and the "Swiss Alps" atmosphere almost started to make sense to me. However, the food was a sad joke, because I had to take my meal back up to the counter as it was inedible. In the summertime, except to possibly escape heat exhaustion, I have no idea why anybody would step foot in there.
Cory Butcher
I dont neccesarily like the atmosphere, but that is usually where Ill eat unless I grab something from Skyline or subway. I always get the chicken tenders, and they are edible, but then again it is hard to mess those up! they need to lighten up the inside, more lighting, and it wont be so bad! And they have already taken care of the buffet angle at the park with the Wings Diner refurb....anyone ate there...whats it like??? I would like to see a true restaurant maybe back by AE/FOF/X-FLIGHT, I dont know really where else it could be put, and there isnt much back there, I dont even think the restaurant has to be themed, but we deff need a service restaurant, I think each of Disney's parks has just one or two. CoastersRZ
Well, it is just that, a place to eat food in air conditioning during the heat of the summer. Or in heat during the cold during FearFest. The thing that has hurt Festhaus, is that they no longer have shows in there, which is one of the primary reasons why the building was built. As a place to grab some food and take in a show. But alas, they opted to cut the entertainment budget, and convert it into a food only operation as they could bring in more money from foods if they didn`t have periodic shows occuring in there. I agree that a restaurant like Cedar Point`s Macoroni`s would be a welcome addition to the foodservice lineup. It would be a different kind of dining experience at Kings Island, and one which is not currently offered. It has been years since Kings Island offered a sit down restaurant with servers that serve you at your table. I think a sit down restaurant would be a real success, whether it is in the old International Restaurant or elsewhere in the park.

Cory Butcher
so has anyone ate at the Buffet? What is it called now? and is the food good, I went a bunch last year, but never really looked at it!
Avatar
Its still called Wings; Last fall they opened it up to the general public as a test to see if the guest would embrace a buffet style dinner. I did eat there on the last weekend and found the food to be average, barely. The best way to describe the food choices would be similar to the July 4th picnic choices of fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, nuggets with several cold salad choices, they also offered a hot table that offered vegetables and mac n cheese. I believe the price was around $13.00 which included drinks and desert. It may have been the day that I went but I felt that the hot items were way to dried out and the hamburger buns were crumbling hard. I would rate the Wings Buffet one level under the other national chains buffets. Now just my opinion I believe that after reading different post I do believe the restaurant that is receiving all the new refurbishments is the Former Wings Restaurant and not the International Street restaurant. So if that is true I hope they do offer a much better selection than last years. I hope that I am wrong about that guess.

KIfan73
I love to see all the different food stands at KI, but, as has been stated before, there are some almost never open. I wonder if it may come to "consolidating" a large portion of the food service to a just a couple main restaurants?
The Interpreter
I love to see all the different food stands at KI, but, as has been stated before, there are some almost never open. I wonder if it may come to "consolidating" a large portion of the food service to a just a couple main restaurants? I doubt that seriously. Look at Cedar Point with its multiplicity of choices. Look at Dorney, or Knott's. Even Geauga Lake has a great number of choices. Consolidate food service into just a few locales and watch per caps drop like a rock. If it ain't handy to most of the guests when and where they decide to eat, they won't. That's why LaRosa's is available in three places (only one of them even edible, in my opinion), Skyline was (until recently) in two, hot dogs are numerous places in the park, you can grab a burger here or a chicken tender over there. Except on Sunday, I have no idea why anyone would EVER eat a chicken finger in Fest Haus. Not when Chik-Fil-A is in the park, with much better food. Put as many food locations in the park as were possible and keep them open every day. It's just good service when you're trying to create an experience rather than create a "place." Paramount was the one that decided that vending machines were better than actual food operations. If it is true. I will be really excited. I bet I will spend more money when I go to Kings Island! (Hey, wait, I bet thats the point!) WOW What an idea, actually listening to guests and customers. Seems that CF may have it right. I assume by sit down table service you mean full service, not just bring you your drink while you go get your food from some buffet... Maybe we should call restaurant types what they are then: either full service or buffet.
westcoaster
Something similar to a fridays' would be great!!!! for 2007 I'm also shocked as popular as Mrs knotts chicken is like 20,000,000 plates being sold so far why they don't expand that concept to other Cedar Fair parks: Also we need restraunts spread out that is for sure: Look at Dolly-wood they spread the food out: We need for 2007 a good buffet a sit down restraunt and then expand in the coming years:
cstrwomann
The buffet at Cedar Point is very good and food is always hot and they have a large variety of entrees. Maybe if people send in their opinions they will listen about Wings Restraunt. I hope they keep it and can improve on it.
The Interpreter
Opinions vary widely, cstrwomann. I assume you are talking about Midway Market. I have been dragged there by friends more times than I care to remember. I have not once been impressed by that place. I think it is drastically overpriced, crowded, loud and the food is of exceptionally low quality. In fact, given all that, I'd actually rather eat in Fest Haus than in Midway Market. And those who frequent here KNOW that I am NO fan of Fest Haus in its recent years.
Gordon Bombay
^I couldnt agree with you more Interpreter, the midway market is a joke. I would much rather pass it up and dine at one of CP's full service places liek Johnny Rockets.
italianchef
At some point Wings should be renamed and re-themed. After all, it's from a 1920s Paramount silent film that hardly anyone remembers. Have a great day! Italian Chef
CoastersNSich
I've eaten at Midway Market several times, and believe it to be a good in-park dining value, especially when compared to other dining venues on property, whether inside the park, or just outside the gates. Joe Cool Club members get $1 discount. The food isn't great, but not necessarily bad. Of course, if you're looking for better food, you might want to try Johnny Rockets, Famous Dave's, or TGI Friday's. Contrary to Interpreter's comments, I'll take Midway Market over Festhaus. Festhaus feels like a high school cafeteria, at four or five times the price - even with LaRosa's pizza.
TOPGUN1993
I would rather take this meal than a buffet Note: (all food there I got FREE)
PhantomTheater
A trick with midway market is to go there about 2-3 and pay the lunch price, but during that time they start converting over to dinner and thus more food and dinner for the price of lunch.
The Interpreter
TOPGUN1993, even that picture reminds me of how dark and gloomy the Fest Haus really is. From the tables to the concrete floor to the ridiculously cold air conditioning (most of the summer), that place just reeks of despair. It didn't used to. In my book, I chalk up Paramount's changes to the Fest Haus right beside what they did to the Tiques area. . . Also, I really, really, really don't like brown crusty cheese on pizza. LaRosa's at the front of the park usually isn't burned. In my opinion (and I know others differ), the illustrated pizza is burned, as is at least 90 percent of it in Fest Haus. Must be that way on purpose, as it is now fast cooked on a conveyor system (right?) and should be consistent... I know I am in a minority here, but I prefer even Patio Pizza at Cedar Point (much better Cedar Point pizza is available back in the house in the frontier area by the antique cars--better still at Dorney Park and even Geauga) to LaRosa's at Kings Island. I want to see LaRosa's stay, of course, but I really wish it were not the exclusive pizza at Kings Island, just as I wish Papa John's were not the exclusive (and over-priced) pizza of Six Flags.
