RWildman424
Does anyone have any pictures of the old Beast lake or know where I can find some. My dad has told me about it, and I've read about it, but I can't find any pictures of it. It would be really awesome if anyone had some pics. Thanks
kjkjkj
why did they remove it, is what I'm wandering.
BoddaH1994
Having a lake under The Beast's queue was a mistake from the beginning. People were constantly throwing trash and dumping drinks in there. Some people even chose to relieve themselves in the lake. It because a mosquito haven and was eventually drained.
kjkjkj
thats really sad, that people would do things like that, though it would be cool if they put a lake like at the bottom of the first hill, and made the first tunnel, an underwater tunnel, lol

TopThrill
Was that lake used by that canoe ride?
PKIVortex
More then likely yes, the Canoe ride was in the area of The Beast now stands.
cincyboy79
some of the reasons i heard was the lake was a breeding ground for mosquitos and it was thought the lake may play havoc on The Vortex. not sure if The Vortex part is true but im sure it was not a pleasant experience being swarmed by mosquitos. WooferBearATL
It really wasn't that bad with the mosquitos.
Vortex
I did not think the mosquitoes where bad. The Beast station is the on the old island in the middle of the lake. I think you can see the island and the canoe ride from the Brady Bunch Show.
PKIVortex
Yes the Canoe Ride is featured in the Brady Bunch episode.

flightoffear1996
Reason 1 - Removing the lake was a heath issue since the water was pretty much at a stand still and as far as I know there were no fountains or pumps to keep moving the water and was pretty much a heath issue as Ryan said. Reason 2 - I DO NOT KNOW THIS FOR A FACT but it is what I have heard. Maintance on a roller coaster over a lake specailly the station would be a nightmare for the maintance crew. What about the thing that is near the queue thet pumps water into a traugh thing, Or was that just for show?
Jasper
You cant forget about the guys that fell in the lake and died that could have very well been a reason as well. I bet that if they brought back the lake today then it would be better than it was back in the 70's and 80's because of the new technology and it is easier to get pumps to go in there. The Interpreter
WHAT guys who fell in the lake and died? And WHAT new technology? As for coasters over lake and maintenance, doesn't seem to affect Hoosier Hurricane or Anaconda at IB or KD, respectively...
SOB_TOM
The "lake" is the one over by Bubba Gumps in front of Festhaus.
fryler87
Pump technology hasn't changed that much since the beginning of time...they could have put an aerator or two out there as well to help keep the water less stagnant.
DeLorean Rider
I've been told that originally the water traugh theming in The Beast queue did in fact run while the water was there. Shawnee Landing, now thats a ride they should bring back, lol.

And those Coke machines in the queue once were real people dispensing popcorn, Coke and the like....well, the machines themselves were not people, but you get my drift... Great America Guy
^ That I did not know, but thank you for sharing that! I always figured that building once served an actual purpose, and it's too bad those days are gone.
StreetStrip03
The original plans had a lake.

It was originally just part of Rivertown Karts that had it's office in the train station. It later became a chain of it's own. - Then Paramount made it vending machines. jzarley
I had always assumed that since the lake disappeared around the same time as Vortex's construction, that the two were related somehow...

coaster_junky
The original plans had a lake. did they change the lay out of The Beast? because for one the helix is backwards and two you don't go over a bunny hop hill after you come out of the first tunnel until after you turn to the left where the lay out pictured you going over the bunny hop as soon as you come out of the first tunnel. and to top it all off when The Beast first openned it didn't have a tunnel over the helix

PKIVortex
Yes it was supposed to open with the helix enclosed but that didn't happen till 1980.
The Interpreter
And the reasons were the typical ones...cost and time...
