Does anyone remember the Rotor ride at KI? (For those who don't know what it was...it was a big round flat ride where you stood on the inside of a spinning drum, and eventually the floor would drop away and centrifugal force would pin you to the walls.) As a child, I absolutely loved that ride

My question is--where exactly was it located? If memory serves, it seems like it was located somewhere near the current location of Festhaus, but I'm not sure if that makes sense from a theming standpoint.

Also, does anyone know what year it was removed, and/or what replaced it? I don't think it made it beyond the late 70s (if that), but I really can't remember...

Weird, but I had a dream about riding the Rotor last night, and it got me thinking about it

^ Thanks, that's what it seemed like, but I couldn't remember for sure. (It's also hard to picture it when everything looks so different now...) So, I guess it was considered part of Oktoberfest?

Yes, it was part of Oktoberfest....and those old Rotors went a lot faster than the models that survive today. Like a lot of things, they have been slowed down significantly (except the Breakdance at Astroland...whew, that's another story!)

It was always fun to watch what happened when someone upchucked, which happened more often than you might think. (Heck, people used to do it frequently on Racer! But then, boys and girls, it, too, had way more airtime than nowadays). Anyway, I digress. When someone tossed their cookies during the Rotor's spin, a garden hose was applied to the spinning drum, not unlike the rinses during spin cycles on an agitator style washer! You could stand above and watch! Fortunately, I saw this happen several times, but was never among the unlucky rinsed riders at the time.

I remember the rotor very well. It was always neat to try to lift your legs or head away from the wall but the G force created would constantly push it back. I am glad that I never had anybody upchuck when I rode the ride. By today's standard the ride did not produce a huge thrill that the mega coasters have today. But it was a fun ride and the lines were never huge with a long wait time.

I loved it-I think it was in the area of the Action Zone

Believe it or not, it only rotated at 15 miles per hour and the drum was only 12 feet in diameter.

i went to cosi a couple of years ago and there is a smaller version of it there.. so maybe you could check that out.

I know someone actually lost a finger on the Rotor. They had to close down the ride because they had to find it... gross yet pretty funny.

I likewise seem to recall that it was right about where Festhaus is now. If my memory serves me correctly, there was also a Ferris Wheel very close to it.

It was a pretty cool ride. I always thought it was neat that you could look down into the ride while waiting in line. If I remember correctly, it was located to the right of where the Festhaus sits now. I can't remember the year it was removed but it was replaced by the ferris wheel.
