The Interpreter
I have been advised that several regional Sunday FSI's (free standing inserts...those coupon brochure things in newspapers) are advertising $19.95 adult admission cards at Kroger stores--buy by June 17, good any day all season. This deal may only be good in some Kroger regions. The free standing insert, I am told, reads: $19.95 GETS YOU IN. (here is shown a card: ADULT SINGLE DAY ADMISSION Kings Island) OFFER ENDS JUNE 17TH SO DON'T MISS OUT HURRY TO KROGER AND SAVE OVER HALF OFF the regular admission price to Kings Island! Then pick any day to come explore Nickelodeon Universe, voted the best kids area in the world! Get free admission into Boomerang Bay waterpark. Plus enjoy the new flying coaster -- Firehawk, five new family-friendly shows, and over 100 rides, shows and attractions. So visit your neigbhorhood Kroger right away. THIS DEAL DISAPPEARS JUNE 17th. Kroger. Kings Island. Where else? TM, Registered and Copyright 2007 Cedar Fair, LP. rollergirl
That does surprise me that such a valuable deal is being offered. I noticed at the Cincinnati area Wendy's you can get a $10 off admission coupon. I think that we don't know the details of past contracts that have to be honored. Kroger may have had a deal with Kings Island when it was under Paramount and they could be paying to offset the price for their name to get tied to KI and get more brand recognition. My guess is that deals this good will go away next year as the park becomes completely Cedar Fair-ish! The other business reason they could offer that is that it is "but by June 1, good all season" This way they get revenue early in the year that they can count on their books and my guess is that the know X%, probably at least 10%, of all people who buy the discounted tickets, will not even use them, so that is free money for KI. raptor
If they are going to do this, they should make it on specific dates only, so us season pass holders can know what crowded days to stay away.
PKIVortex
Well it's not that big of a deal. If it was on specific dates only you can bet the park would be packed. The fact that its an any-day ticket that spreads the people out a little who have these 19.95 tickets, which is a good deal in my opinion. CoastersRZ
Yep. Its when they try and concentrate promotions like this on specific days is when you get a very crowded park, with long lines. But when they spread it out like they are doing, the people that will buy these tickets will use them throughout the season spreading out the attendance caused by these tickets, instead of a concentrated attendance spike on a few select days. That is what they used to do with the bring a friend free days. Heck, I remember when renewing pass holders in the fall got a ticket to use for the rest of the fall season, good anyday. Before they abandoned that process completely, they had started to restrict it to certain days, like closing weekend. That always made for a very crowded final weekend at the park. deb
What a deal! If we weren't season pass holders we'd be cashing in on this deal. I'm calling everyone who might be going for my son's b-day and letting them know.. saves us poor folks some $ and we get in on the fun! deb
PKIVortex
I may have to pick up one of these tickets for my Grandma, she has been wanting to go to the park sometime this year. It sure beats the 29.95 senior price.
jondrewfoo
heh, some reason i quoted the person in front of me by accident... holy crap thats amazing, i really need a ticket and only had 20 bucks saved. however i went to the kroger website, and the ad says 34.95 for adult admissions. not 19.95. im from the dayton area, but cinci and dayton ads on the site are the same, it actually links us to the cinci ad as its the same for the whole region. can anyone confirm they are doing this still? it said till the 17th on this forum. I haven't checked it, but my mother-in-law is going to call our store to find out. deb
CoastersRZ
It might be that the promotion is only available in the actual Kroger stores, and not online. Kind of a way to get people to visit the Kroger store, with the hopes that those people will spend some money in the Kroger store.

Edit: def only have 34.95 tickets, and never sold the 19.95 ones here at the dayton area one/fairborn. where is the one where you got the ad from??? WooferBearATL
Interp, I think you'll agree that such a deep price cut promotion is not a good sign. Maybe attendance really is off.
KI-ORIG-EMP
The Kroger stores have several divisions, each with different sales than here. The Cinci/Datyton, Louisville, Mich, and eastern Ohio are all different divisions. I would think that the ads are marketed towards the Kroger stores farther from the Cinci/Dayton area. If there is any question on the prices that are being advertised, just give KI a call and ask. Mike
jondrewfoo
so i def went out and bought myself a dayton daily news paper, only to find out krogers ads are not even in there... this is not cool. think i will make a call to Kings Island... OK, this sucks. to the person who posted the info about the outer market areas getting that 19.95 discount, you were right.I called them and they said at Meijers, Speedway, and Krogers are where they had the sales. But only in the outer market areas and even then, the stores arent required to carry them... this sucks.
j6money
I posted this in another thread - but here some scans of a coupon that be used at the gate: Also said discount tickets were available at Kroger or Speedway. Another commercial stated Meijer and Speedway. Commercial from Louisville station. Here's the coupon. FRONT BACK Here are PDF format if you want to try to print it out: YMMV if they will accept it Front http://www.savefile.com/files/767136 Back http://www.savefile.com/files/767137
BoddaH1994
I'd find out if reproductions will be accepted before you try it at the park.
jondrewfoo
it says on the coupons void if duplicated... so id say not. plus that sucks its only good till the 17th to use... i thought you just had to buy it by then. im going on the 27th.. I wonder if you buy the $19.99 KI tickets at the retailers directly before the 17th they are good all season long. And the coupon is a just a different type of promotion where the price changes after the 17th?
Hendrick
Does anyone know if the Columbus Area has the tickets for sale? I didn't see anything in the ad, but I really didn't look. I know Kroger always has them for sale up here. But I'm not sure if they have this discounted price.
jondrewfoo
um when i called Kings Island the lady said the coupon was for outer markets. she said try some places like louisville or colombus, but she wasnt sure exactly what markets had them. she also said krogers, meijers, and speedway were doing the coupons/discounts. Hendrick
So, do you have to have the coupon to get the ticket? I didn't see a coupon, but of course, I didn't look. EDIT: Well, I called around. The nearest Speedway has the tickets, but for $29.99. So then I called Kroger. They had them for $19.95. They only had the Adult and Two day passes still. The Child/Senior was sold out. And they only had about 10 or so 19.95. I did not need a coupon. And I do not believe that the price was advertised.
