We took a trip to KI yesterday with my brother and sister in law and one of their friends.

We got there at about 10:30ish and went straight to the line for Firehawk, as we hadn't gotten the chance to ride it before. We waited about 45 mins, rode the yellow train, and I've gotta tell ya, it's the SMOOTHEST ride in the park. It was fantastic. I bet it'd be great at night!

Next we hopped onto the Zephyr for a smooth swing. Then we went back to Tomb Raider. I gotta say I was VERY disappointed in the ride without the music. I tried to help by yelling out "We should turn back!" at the appropriate moment. It didn't help. On the way back, we stopped by the IJ:ST and rode it.

Then, since we were close to Vortex, we went and rode it. I know a lot of other members love it, but it beat me to death and I still don't care for it. When we got off, we were so close to Spongebob that we went on back and did that. After we got off IJ:ST, we went to eat.

It was nearing 3 now. We were hot and sticky, and wanted to change into our bathing suits and head back to BB. When we got out to the Jeep, we got our stuff, sat around for a while, then noticed a HUGE black cloud hovering in the sky. We had expected rain, as we live west of Cincy, and we were getting drenched before left. Just as we got back into the front gate, the pour down started. So we got some cotton candy, and had a nice sit for about 45 mins or so waiting on the rain to stop. A lot of people left because of the rain. We knew it would pass.

Once the rain stopped, we went to BB. We went up to the Coolangatta Racers first (last time we were there we didn't get to ride it). While we were waiting, the guy we were with asked the LG what happened if someone got stuck? She replied it never happened before, so she didn't know. Guess who got stuck? ME. She had to push me. LOL. I was a bit beat up as my head kept bouncing off the side of the walls.

Then we went back and rode the Snowy River Rampage, and I went down backwards. It's so much fun backwards! My hubby said it kept looking like I was gonna go flying over the edge.

We then walked back to Tazmanian Typhoon, another one we missed out on before. I went backwards on it, too. And I didn't get wet until the little bump before you spill out of the funnel, but it was fun. We also did Crocodile Run, and got caught in an empty float traffic jam.... LOL. We were pushing them along.

I laid out for a bit while everyone else played in the wave pool. We got re-dressed and stopped at Nick Central to ride Runaway Reptar. I gotta say, that's a GREAT ride to be a kiddie coaster. We rode up front first (best spot) then got to stay on in a different seat for another ride.

We then took everything to the Jeep, and came back to hit the Action Zone. It was about 6:30-6:45 then. Everyone wanted to ride Delirium (except me) but I told my hubby I would, because he asked me to... so I did. Needless to say, I was right, I hated it and was nearly in tears by the time we stopped.

They went and got on Drop Zone, while I sat it out. Next we went up and got on Face/Off... and I was a bit off kilter on it because I was still reeling from Delirium. It was a pretty good ride on Face/Off.

I wanted to go ride Top Gun, so we went back there and rode it. On the way by SOB, we saw a sign for the EXtreme Skyflyer being only $5. So my sister in law and one of her friend went to get in line for it. We sat there for a bit, but apparently everyone thought $5 was cheap, because the line was crazy by then. We had wanted to ride Top Gun in the front, so we went back and rode up front. There were maybe 5 people total on it, including us, and man, is it ever faster with a small load. Made me remember why I love it so much!

When we all got back together (we waited another 15 mins on them to get off the ES). We then did a tally of what coasters we had and hadn't rode, and realized all that was left was Racers, FoF, AE, and The Beast. It was 9:15, and everyone was kinda freaked thinking we wouldn't get to ride anything else.

We walked back to FoF. First time I rode it without the OTSR, and it was FANTASTIC! Also very smooth. It did stop on us midtrack, but it was so quick it made it seem like it was meant to be there. By then it was about 9:30 ish, and we decided that The Beast was all that we really wanted to ride. My brother in law sat out, said he didn't want to be beat to death that late (we were exhausted).

We went and got in line, there were a TON of people in line to get a night ride. When we got in line, the ops announced in 8 mins they would temporarily cease operation of The Beast in due to the fireworks show. We were cool with that, we thought we'd be back from the ride by then. As we waited, the ops announced that one of the riders in the front car had made a record of 56 rides on The Beast for that one day.. WOW. There were also a bunch of ACE members on that particular train (I think the rest were behind us... LOL). We waited until they announced that in a few seconds the ride would close for the fireworks. My sister in law and her friend decided to go back out of the line, and we waited. At about 10:10, the got the all clear and let us on. Needless to say, I was psyched up for riding it at night. As well I should be. It was FANTASTIC! And the smoothest ride I've ever had on The Beast, ever. There was one small glitch... we stopped midway up the lift hill for a few seconds.. Enough to bring the fear back The Beast. Screw the fireworks, you can see those on the 4th. Go ride The Beast at night, instead!!!

Oh, btw, the only thing we had to wait on the ENTIRE day was for Firehawk (45 mins) and The Beast, and that was only because of the fireworks (we were the first train out after they ended). We WALKED ONTO EVERYTHING. I was in total shock to walk on The Vortex and FoF. We hadn't rode them at all because of the lines.

Little things I noticed: The soda pop machines still say Paramount, as do the uniform tees. I was disappointed that there was no pic on FoF. The video should be cool, though.

And everything lit up at night makes the park beautiful. The fountain is gorgeous with those lights. We had a great time, and I'm STILL worn out.

Why do you hate it so much?

I just didn't like it. Reminded me of Viking Fury, another ride I don't particularly like. It almost felt out of control, and I'm a control freak. And I felt like I was falling straight to the ground... and I don't care for that.

I know many people that hate Delirium, I personally love that ride. I also know others that think that Delirium replaced King Cobra and hate it for that reason. Even though I think Delirium sits where the shop was and maybe a small section of the helix. The rest of King Cobra was taken up by Slingshot and open land between SOB and slingshot.

King Cobra was another ride I knew better than to try... my theory is if they can't give me a FULL SEAT to sit on and not a bike seat, they don't want me to ride it. So I didn't ride it.

You missed a great ride. You should have given King Cobra a chance. It may not have been the tallest, or fastest, or longest coaster, but it was a good coaster. I have ridden all 3 of the Togo Stand ups here in North America. By Far King Cobra and Skyrider at CW where my favorites, Shockwave sucks though at KD.

I love Delirium as well but I'm still hoping for the day that the cobra comes out from the woods and gets rebuilt somewhere in the park.

Where is it?

Last I heard it finally made its way to the scrap yard. I used to hold a grudge against Delirium for replacing King Cobra but have since given in and enjoy the ride. King Cobra was one of my favorites.

I was at the park yesterday too, didn't get there till about 3 though, took a quick ride on The Beast then the rain came. I got back in line for The Beast and waited out the rain there. The park was pretty empty yesterday I walked on almost everything. I think my longest wait was for Flight of Fear and that was only about 10 minutes for the front seat.

On Vortex for some reason I've found if you sit in the back it doesn't jerk you around as much at least not for me. Also I may be crazy about this but I swear if I have my hands up it's a smoother ride. And on Firehawk you have to have your hands out to get the full flying sensation.

I had to edit to say that I also rode Tomb Raider: The Ride and without the music it was completly pointless. It was borderline silly seeing all the effects go off with no music to go with it. At least it didn't slam me around this time though.

You're kidding, the sound is still off? I went early last week and that was one of the first days of the sound being off. I'm going tomorrow, I'll see if it's on yet.

I miss Cobra. That was my very first looping coaster. I'm still uncertain, why was it torn down?

Maintenance had a lot to do with it. The fact it was the first Togo Stand-up (prototype) didn't help the cause either. I don't believe the crap about not being about to find parts for it anymore as they are still 2 other Togo's Running at 2 former Paramount Parks. I heard also that the track was wearing out, they were times when they had to perform welds on the track daily. I witnessed several times in the last few years of operation of them welding the track. Also during it's last season, the ride broke down way too much, with people on it.

I guess it was its time. Go out good, not with a death. Yeah, the parts...uh, part seems like crap, sounds like another excuse to me. Maybe it's just me but somehow Togo Stand-ups don't seem safe. I'd way rather ride a B&M Stand-up than a Togo.

By the way, look at the difference in the trees surrounding Timberwolf in KIFan's post.

what caused it to rust prematurely?

At the time there was a LARGE difference in quality between Japanese steel and American steel. The King Cobra, coming from TOGO, which was a Japanese company, was made out of Japanese steel since it was the prototype. The other TOGO standups at the other (former) Paramount Parks used American steel, which is why they still exist.

Like I've said I loved King Cobra it was a great ride and no one would like to see it put back up more than me. I don't think sitting in a field for a little over 4 years can be good for it though. I would say put in a newer stand up with the same elements Cobra had only longer. Even call it something cheesy like Black Mamba. I don't know it's late and I'm tired.

it'd be interesting to see those two pictures one on top of the other, to compare the little unobvious things that have changed, that's crazy.

Something like this?

70less.jpg

It's not the best but I tried.

Thats awesome. That pic now has a really neat feel to it...It has the ghosts of future coasters in it now...LOL

  • 3 weeks later...

Oh how i miss King Cobra...

Delirium is ok, but i wish that it would have been put in where Days of Thunder is now, or hell where Flight Commander used to be!

To bad they couldnt fix up the Cobra and re-unleash it!!
