1st Time to CP Friday.

Recommended Posts

Try riding all the coasters. That will fill your day. There are two avenues to try and hit all the coasters. If you are staying at a CP resort, use your Joe Cool to it's fullest extent. Hit Maverick early twice in the day, then avoid it. MF and TTD will be the next longest lines of the day. If you don't have Joe Cool, I would hit all the minor queue coasters early: WT, BS, Raptor if it under 1hr., etc. going to the back of the park but hit them in order. Once you go from the front of the park to the rear of the park, and back again, you have spent precious coaster time walking around the park.

I would always park in the Soak City lot, it has that nice "halfway" feel to it as opposed to parking near the front.

To fill your tummy. Try heart attack-on-a-stick, a.k.a. cheese on a stick. They are good! Just don't expect to fit on MF or TTD when you are done! Macaroni's is a nice stop for food. As is the TGI Fridays at Hotel Breakers. Have have heard both good and bad about Famous Daves, so that really depends on the people working and the crowd.

Going this Friday is going to be tough. Many are starting their 4th of July vacations this weekend. The weather forecast looks good, so I would expect a good size crowd.

Have fun!

- Ride all of the adult coasters, if you can. Disaster Transport and Wildcat have low capacity, so you may want to do those earlier on. I'll agree with Paul, Mean Streak is most comfortable in the very front seat, but if you don't want to wait extra, then the front of any car is ok. Make sure to ride Gemini during the middle of the day, when it is most likely racing, and sit on the side closest to the loading platform. Ride it a few times! If you find Gemni running only one side at a time, they tend to switch operation from one side to the other so you can get your "count" in.

- Of course, don't forget Millennium Force, Dragster, Magnum, Raptor, and Maverick! (And Gemini!) Many of these coasters you could do at any time, though a lot of people go to Raptor first thing... Doing Magnum earlier is also good. Mantis you could possibly do with a station-only wait (or even walk-on!) later in the evening. And don't underestimate Blue Streak!

- DON'T limit youself to the coasters and thrill rides! Yes, Cedar Point has some of the best coasters in the world, but there are several classic and/or gentler transport rides great for relaxing on, and getting a great view of the park and scenery, not to mention reducing your walking. Don't miss the Sky Ride, and also take some time for the CP&LE Railroad and Space Spiral.

- Parking in the Soak City lot is also highly recommended - it sure reduces the overwhelming feel of this mega-park, and it makes a great way to end your day with Magnum, as its exit is right next to the SC/Resorts gate!

- Where to eat? In the park, try Midway Market if you're looking for a lot of decent food for a reasonable price. Johnny Rockets is great for a fun-filled atmosphere with your meal. If you like sports, you might find your game on at Game Day Grille, next to Blue Streak. Toward the rear, they just also added Chick-fil-A and Panda Express, if that's your taste. Just outside the gate, Friday's at Breakers, and Famous Dave's at the Marina are also great choices. A great place for a small meal or snack is one of the fried potato stands - I like the one across from Gemini.

I've never done the East of Chicago buffet, but I hear it's a great price, although it's on the Causeway near Breakers Express.

Enjoy your trip!

Do you guys not have a East of Chicago where you live? They are all around where I live and I don't know what would be special about having it when you are at the point.

I have never heard of it.. haha

I would add only a few things:

* Maverick: The front seat is worth the wait. And how. (I'd rather ride a park bench than row four or five...)

* Top Thrill Dragster: Ditto. Ride the second tallest, second fastest roller coaster in the world in its bestest seat. It's worth the wait.

* Wildcat: Not to be missed. Many do. Big mistake, at least in my opinion.

* Demon Drop: Also not to be missed. Almost never a line.

* Cedar Downs: A unique experience, found in the USA in only one other park (and it's off the beaten path: Rye Playland in NY State).

* Pizza: For my money, the Chuckwagon pizza is awesome (back by Maverick). I wouldn't feed the Patio Pizza stuff to a dog, for fear of being bitten.

* Frozen Custard: Awesome, and best found at the shop in the midway in front of the ball spraying fountain. It is NOT just soft serve. There's a difference, and Cedar Point's is good.

* MaXair: Much better than Delirium, these days, at least.

* Raptor: Well worth riding.

* Mean Streak: Agree that the front seat is the best, [Nonsense about middle seats on Mean Streak, which has no such things, deleted. Thanks]

Edited 06.25.2007 9:05PM to delete middle seat on Mean Streak nonsense!

* MaXair: Much better than Delirium, these days, at least.

Delirium I think is better, and Delirium still goes the same height they, slowed down how fast it takes to get to its max hight. Beleive me.

To me, it doesn't SEEM the KI one goes as high as it once did (and photographic evidence seems to back that up). Regardless, the CP one normally does at least one more swing than KI typically does.

Anyway, it's subjective, and *I* prefer MaXair. Your mileage may vary. (Actually, I prefer the Frisbee thingy at Six Flags Great America, which used to live as Frisbee at SFGAd, to either, but I digress....)

I definitely agree that MaXair is the superior ride and was reminded of that on Friday when we took our spin. Delirium just hasn't been the same since the incident. MaXair doesn't have the nasty jolt when it switches directions of swing. It is also a longer ride cycle and I would agree that it does seem to swing a tad higher than Delirium does these days.

Also, don't be fooled by Mavericks line. It typtically isn't as long as they say it is, provided that the ride doesn't go down.....which it seems to do almost everytime I'm in line for it :-) None the less, be sure to stick it out its totally worth the wait. While I may not be as negative toward the middle car as Interpreter.....the front and back seat are BOTH worth waiting for. Front seat is absolutely outstanding.

They were not letting anyone wait for the front seat for Maverick when we were there, but I bet it is an awesome ride. I agree 100% about TTD, we waited a long time to ride the front seat and it was really worth the wait.

So what is everyone's seat recommendation on Mantis? (Or, does location even matter?)

I've experienced terrible head banging on Mantis within the last five years or so...so badly that last Summer on a two-day trip I didn't ride it even once...

Also, I hadn't heard anything for a while, but is Magnum back up to three train operation after the collision earlier in the season?

We just went up on a friday saturday and we rode all the big rides on friday, Maverick we rode by noon by afternoon the ride is hours! We just kept riding coasters all day. Food the fries you have to get !!

On saturday mornings max air and wicked twister (the yellow coaster next to it) is low lines, and we relaxed and rode smaller stuff.

A must ride is still millenium force.

^^ I like the front myself.

The 2nd half of Mantis there is a little headbanging, combine that with the hook on the seat and the pressure on your legs, it is nice to see where you are going.

And according to what I have heard, Magnum is back to a three train operation.

^ Thanks, that's good to hear about Magnum.

I don't know what it is with me and the B&M standups, but I find them all really uncomfortable...from Mantis, to Chang, to Vortex, to Iron Wolf. And, the older they get (or, maybe it's the older I GET :D ) I find the headbanging worse and worse...

I'm right in the rider size range for which coasters are designed (5'9" 155lbs) so I don't think that's it...but maybe I'm holding my head wrong or something. At any rate, I find Mantis even more uncomfortable to ride than Mean Streak! (Yes--Mean Streak :D )

^ I'm with you. I prefer MS to Mantis.

I will only ride Mantis if I am with a first time rider, or if my wife REALLY wants to go on it (which does not happen too much). I have some good rides on Mantis, but for the most part they have been bad. I am just not sure if there is a good way to ride it. I just try to keep a slight bend in my knees to save my hamstrings and my manhood.

And all the issues we have mentioned are probably why no new stand-ups have been built in 8 years.

I am going to Cedar Point for my 1st time this Friday (29th). What should I ride, eat, anything like that would be helpful. Thanks

I went to Cedar Point about 3 weeks ago, first of all bring some music for the car ride up there it makes the trip move much faster! I dont know the crowds on Friday but I would highly suggest riding Magnum XL-200, this coaster is like the voyage of steel. Ride Top Thrill Dragster in the front, no matter how long the line is this is a must! Maverick may be the best ride choice to make while you are there.

Also, some words of advice. You will be tempted to get your on ride DVD from Raptor. Just to let you know when I went my friend got it and we later found that it is basically an ad for Cedar Fair only as you as the star.

If you have a good stomich eating asian food then riding coasters, I suggest Panda Express
