Why does selling it make more sense? Without the proper figures and information I fail to see how it makes any sense to sell Star Trek the Experience. For all we know it could be very profitable and beneficial to the company. Kinzel has not expressed any interest in selling it or mentioned it being a burden in any of the conference calls. For all we know it could be bringing in some profit for the company.

As Ryan pointed out, Star Trek: The Experience is open year round. As a result, it is one of the few properties that Cedar Fair owns that is bringing in money in the winter months. And for the most part, there is relatively little capital investment required to sustain Star Trek.

Most of Cedar Fair`s other parks, Kings Island included, are closed in the winter which means no money will be flowing into Cedar Fair`s coffers. Additionally, since this is also the time when all the rides are refurbished, it is also the time when the parks are paying all their maintenance employees and for replacement parts for all the rides.

With the exception of Flight of Fear, the videos that have played in the queue lines have not been ride specific. Additionally, I do not recall seeing any Paramount related clips on them this past season. Keep in mind that Flight of Fear`s name does not have to change, as it is not tied to any Paramount licensing. It used to be tied to Outer Limits, but that license expired after the 2000 season, and the preshow was slightly altered to remove references to the Outer Limits. Rob Pottorf, the guy who wrote the music for Flight of Fear has a clip of the preshow video on his site, before the Outer Limits portions were cut out. Flight of Fear queue video

Rob Pottorf is also responsible for the Tomb Raider: The Ride soundtrack.

God that is just about the greatest waiting movie of all time. Unfortionately I didn't have time to watch it at KI because the ride was a walk-on!

I think that MOST of the Paramount stuff will be rethemed over the next year. SOME rides will not be rethemed because it takes money. Money, That Cedar Fair doesn't have.

flightoffear1996, I would imagine that the park has the rights to use Mr. Pottorf`s music. The rights probably were included when the park was building those attractions. After all, the music was written for those specific attractions. But none of us can really know for sure, as we do not know all the terms and licensing issues with all of Kings Island`s rides.

I would be surprised and disappointed if the new name for The Italian Job didn't make some mention of Los Angeles/L.A. It is the perfect name to fit the theme.

The rest of the rides can easily be re-named. For example, Top Gun can be called Navy Pilot.

And I am mighty curious about Tomb Raider. It is really themed after the movie. But the pre-show film can be removed or replaced and the name of the ride can be "TREASURE HUNTRESS". We'll see.

Best regards,

Italian Chef

Besides the potential name change for Italian Job Stunt Track, the more pressing issues is what will happen to certain other elements from the ride. Specifically, will the Mini Cooper styled trains be reworked into something else? Will the helicopter remain at the shutout scene? What happens to the bill board that the cars crash through? Is it just a new sign placed on it? This ride could have a drastically different feel next season, depending how much or little is done to it, besides the name change.

First off that old video for FOF is pretty neat but if thats the full video seems like they added a lot when they removed the outer limits stuff. Also Top Gun already had a name that was NOT licensed by Paramount, then when Paramount bought the park they changed the name before it was finished, so I think it will be called that I believe it was Thunder Road?

hmmm... don't know why but i was thinking Thunder Road at Carowinds was named Thunder Run... oh well being that Dollywood has ALREADY had that name too I guess there may not be a future conflict with that name.

Just to let you know... the motion simulator at Dollywood began as Thunder Road then was later turned into Smoky Mountain Wilderness Adventure with the exception of during kids fest which it was then either Sponge Bob (yep same show as the one at Kings Island without the 3D glasses) or Yogi's Wild Ride (yep the same one there too.... Now according to a lady in guest services earlier this year the simulator is to return to Thunder Road because it had a much higher ridership than it's predecessors... now the confirmed name for the brand new ride for next year at Dollywood is River Battle which will be a pretty cool family water ride

So here's the list if they really just don't get creative at all.

Congo Falls to become Falls

Top Gun to become Gun

Italian Job Stunt Track to become simply Stunt Track (not too bad on this one)

Drop Zone to become Drop

Paramount Story to become the Story

Tomb Raider the Ride to become The Ride

Flight of Fear to become Fear (Nice..... though I don't think this one is affected)

Wings to become W'angs

Delirium (dont think this one is affected but for the fun of it) becomes Delirious (sp?)

Days of Thunder to become Thunder Raceway (wish it would become extinct honestly but that's probably the name it will be)

I know some of these have been said before so I'm not trying to steal anyone's thunder just putting it in list form here for fun I have no real idea what the names will become. As far as other parks I could see Borg Assimulator becoming simply Assimulator and Tomb Raider Firefall to simply Firefall etc....

why would you change the name of Flight of Fear? i thought this was already done when they dropped outer limits.

Yeah I understand that Flight of Fear was originally Outer Limits Flight of Fear. I don't really have a clue whether or not it would need to change. I'm not sure how Paramount licensed FoF or any of their other rides. However just because it's not named after a movie or a show doesn't mean that Paramount or Viacom may not have the rights to it.
