  1. Cedar Fair needs to purchase lots of advertisements in Amusement Today. Problem solved. Next!
  2. To echo the Interpreter, Idlewild is a fantastic amusement park almost entirely for kids. Also consider: is Planet Snoopy really better than The Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland? Universal's Islands of Adventure's Seuss Landing? Paultons' Peppa Pig World? LEGOLAND Parks? Maybe it is... But don't allow yourself to accept the Amusement Today "awards" without looking at how those awards are distributed and why? I've often asked how Cedar Point fails to place in best food, cleanest park, best entertainment, friendliest employees, best dark ride, best water ride, or best landscaping, but somehow manages to snag best amusement park. Maybe I'm wrong, but shouldn't the "best amusement park in the world" place first in all of those categories, or at least one?
  3. Ask those who have been injured on SoB if they believe the coaster's life was cut short.
  4. I could mention that a vast, vast majority of Kings Island visitors have absolutely zero idea that a park in Missouri called Worlds of Fun exists at all, much less that it's owned by the same company or adopted similar adornments to its logo. But I won't.

From the twitter account of Rebecca Baker, Cedar Point's marketing coordinator. "Industry is buzzing with @SixFlags announcements. I'm a little bias, but I think the #Gatekeeper launch across platforms was better executed" Better executed? Was she not informed Gatekeeper was leaked the day before? I don't understand how some one could think Gatekeepers announcement was better than what Six Flags did. For God's sake, one of the higher ups called Gatekeeper WindSeeker during the announcement.
  6. And anyone who believes a ride is only worth riding or considered "thrilling" if it's at a set height, speed, or style should not be allowed to consider themselves an enthusiast, either.
  7. I know of one that I find superior to KI, with better landscaping, ride selection and friendlier patrons. It's truly is a wondrous land for kids and parents, eh.
  8. One other thing - give away free blue ice cream cones!
  9. Standing in a welfare line because you can't buy a job? A song about the evils of discrimination and some boys not allowed where others go? A song that hopes for change? What? My head hurts.
  10. We marathonned Backlot earlier this year; it left me feeling dizzier than I was used to, but back-to-back blasts on The Beast were the best, bud! [[[[splash cymbal]]]
  11. Wow. I once had a dream I was riding Vortex, except the restraint was a piece of string. And that dream occurred BEFORE I started riding it! (had the dream in either '08 or '09, and I started riding in 2010). Weird huh? That could get rather bumpy! I've dreamt that Vortex had a section that was 900' high, but you had to disembark the classic train, and walk over to a gymnast's hoop/zip line thing to get back down safely... THROUGH the now 900'-high corkscrew, batwing, etc.Talk about hanging on!
  12. For me, I don't necessarily have limits, but the rides with the most consecutive rides I've managed to do (I can do a bigger number in the future) are as follows: Vortex: 13 18 (and I STILL felt fine! Maybe its 'cause of younger age) Diamondback: 10 Viper (DL): 10 Loch Ness Monster: 6 (it was crowded at BGW the day I went there) Like I said before, it is pretty likely that I may surpass those records of mine in the future (or at least attempt to)

That sounds like some of the additions that just got installed.
  14. I would hate to be Don, dealing with the Facebook crowd. Poor Don.
  15. 2 points
One would think BB1's favorite ride was in Boomerang Bay.
  16. Vortex: 1 Diamondback: 3 to 6 depending on my mood Beast: >1 (never tried to marathon this) Flight Deck: >1 (ditto) Backlot Stunt Coaster: >1 (ditto again) Firehawk: 2 to 3 Flight of Fear: 2 Invertigo: 1 Adventure Express: 1, maybe 2 if I'm bored. And last but certainly not least: Racer: "What do you mean Coasting for Kids is over?!?"
  17. Never. I could ride coasters all day, although that may be due to a smaller height/younger age or something.

I had a vacation day to use and wanted to visit another day before the end of daily operations. I headed towards KI at 6:30 AM from Indy. Got in the park about 8:45. There was a delay with DB opening so I only got 3 rides in during ERT, but rode a 4th time before heading towards The Beast. I was walking with a retired P & G employee who hits up the park a lot and we rode The Beast 3 times in a row. I was telling him about what I think about where to sit on a 3 seat car on a train. Obviously middle row is best, but we ended up ridding 3 times in a row. We sat on the same train and in the same car, but we shifted from middle row, to front row, and then back row. That order is what we decided was smoothest to roughest. I parted ways with him at that point and I headed towards BLSC. I then decided to get a good ride in on WS. Vortex was having an issue and maintenance was hard at work getting it up and running. I then headed up CM and hit up Racer and then on to AZ and rode Delirium since I missed it last visit. I was getting a little warm so I hit up Congo Falls. While ridding there were some people from possibly Pakistan with those really cool bright outfits (Shalwar kameez style) who sat in the back row of the boat. They were soaked from head to toe after the drop. They were smiling so I guess they enjoyed it and not upset they got them wet. I then headed back to DB for another good ride. I was then getting hungry so I was looking for some food options. I wanted Rivertown Junction, but it was closed that day and Hanks was also closed. I ran into Don and talked to him for a few minutes. I then ended up at Jukebox Diner. This was my first vist there this season. The burger and fries were great and the portion of fries was just right for a very hungry man! After getting full I decided to hit up Vortex since I missed it earlier. I had never done a invert right after lunch before, but normally ride DB right after lunch, so I figured I would be fine. I did have a little grey out on the start of the second loop that I had never had before on that ride, but not sure if it was due to having a full stomach? The ride did not bother my stomach in any way. A True Ride Warrior!! I then figured I better not push it and decided to take a nice relaxing ride on WS. I then wanted to head back towards DB, but on the way I hit up BLSC and rode The Beast 2 more times. I meet up with Gary Coleman at DB and rode 6 times in about 35 minutes. I then really needed to get something to drink, so I left Gary and got some water and a Coke. At that point Beasie1980 (Melissa) texted me and said that she was in the park eating in the FH. So I got back on DB and rode it again and met her and her family at the exit. Melissa had her sister with her and we took a ride on DB. We then headed over to The Beast and rode it 2 times. They wanted to ride FOF, so we headed that way. Got a good ride on it. We then hit up Racer, AE, Delirium, and Invertigo. Melissa had not ridden in the front seat closest to the control room, so we rode in that seat. I don't ride Invertigo to often, but this was a good ride. We then hit up FD. I took a few pics of SOB while we were back there. Good bye SOB! I guess it was just not meant to be. We then headed down CM and around to BLSC and got the white train. We stopped at the DB splash down and Melissa's mom took a picture of us with a train going through the splashdown. Left to right: Beastie1980, Indyguy4ki, Beastie1980's sister (I forgot her name.) We then rode DB, Melissa wanted to ride front seat, so I took a few pics while we waited for that row. At this point it was getting dark and Melissa wanted a night ride on The Beast, so at about 8:30 we headed towards The Beast. Here we are in the queue. I got some sun today. Okay, I got a lot of sun today! We got an amazing night ride in on The Beast. (I have only had one or two so far this season) After that I wanted to get a night right in on DB and then I was getting home for it was close to 9:30 and I had a 2 hour drive ahead of me. We had a great night ride on DB to end the night. All in an awesome day at the park. Thanks to KI for another great relaxing day at the park. Ride Count: DB - 15 The Beast - 8 BLSC - 3 WS - 2 Racer - 2 Delirium - 2 Congo falls - 1 Vortex -1 FOF - 1 AE - 1 FD - 1 Invertigo - 1 Total: 38 Thanks for reading!
  19. I agree GYK, and I think the Logo is different enough in color and rides to make it unique for their park!
  20. We'll just have to see. We don't know whether or not Cedar Fair has an exclusivity contract with the manufacturer of WindSeeker, or how low / how far a possible contract might extend. We also don't know how interested other parties might be after having seen literally every single WindSeeker clone experience prolonged closures for seemingly extensive reasons.
  21. Though a different manufacturer, and with less downtown.

Paramount and CBS had cut back on cap ex in the last years. So much so that at one IAAPA Jeff Seibert was unironically referring to new additions as "cheap and cheerful."
  23. Both companies had crushing debt loads, largely caused by overexpansion. One company went bankrupt and reorganized (and now has totally different management), the other is slowly paying off its debts but is still highly leveraged. It, too, has largely new management, mostly because of Q.
  24. If Six Flags owned Kings Island, the announcement would have been Thursday. Each Six Flags park was included in the announcement.

    ^And 1978, 1980, 1983, and (kinda) 2010.
  26. I wants a coaster! Pwease?

Someone's pride a little wounded? A. Silence would have been a better FUN response. B. I thought SIX and FUN didn't compete for the same customers and spheres of influence. Well?

Wow Six Flags knows how to make an announcement. They really blew Cedar Point's fumbling around in the rain announcement of Gate Keeper. I like John Hildebrandt but he should never be in front of a camera making an announcement unless there has been a terrible accident.
  29. Racer 116 - Coasting For Kids 2010 That day it was great, the next day... I was paying for it. -__- So I spose 100 is alright, just not 116! Ba dum dum Tssssssttttt
  30. I can ride all day err day. (Don't really talk like that, but I found it necessary in this situation!) As stated before, this is probably due to my young age.
  31. Thats a funny way to put at it. We could use Delirium as demo but wait....We'd have to wait forever for new huss parts .
  32. I think this should be their approach to the demolition:
  33. Oddly enough, I'm getting nostalgic about the loss of Disaster Transport. (I've never seen Space Spiral open even once in the visits I've had between 2005 and 2011. I haven't made it to Cedar Point this year.) It wasn't the most thrilling ride, and I didn't love it that much. For some reason, though, rides like DT, CCMR, Magnum, Gemini, Wildcat, Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, etc. all tend(ed) to define CP for me, at least in the years I've known it. That's not to say that Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster aren't great rides--don't get me wrong. (Millennium's one of my favorite steel coasters, as a matter of fact.) I just think one of the things I liked the most about the place was that you have super-modern record-breaking rides like those, but then you've also got these really unique rides from the 60's-80's that are part of how Cedar Point got its current reputation. Maybe I'm the only one to whom that matters, but it's part of what I enjoy about the place. That's also not to say that I'm not excited for Gatekeeper, either. I really like the name and creative use of the ride's location. (Name haters, let's face it: the ride's an adornment for the front gate. Cedar Point's got this reputation as the coaster park in the Midwest, at least with almost anyone I've ever encountered who knows about the place. Having a coaster built into the entrance of the park is a no-brainer.) The wing coaster style is practically unheard of around here by the average park guest, and it looks like it will likely eat through lines, which is something Maverick, which seems to me to still be riding its "newest coaster in the park" popularity, is lacking. Or here's hoping Gatekeeper pulls some the lines away from that ride, anyway. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this is bittersweet for me, much like the removal of The Crypt.
  34. I'm sure KI's approach to SOB is nothing to see here.
  35. Indeed. Seat selection matters, especially on steel and wood coasters! Glad you had fun and got to meet a truly awesome KIC'r. Thanks for sharing your day with us!

Benefits for Gold Passholders will continue to include free season-long parking, early ride time on select attractions, and other benefits like free membership in the FUN Perks rewards program. There's always a lot to be excited about at Kings Island.
  38. I love how you think that theBEASTunchained is mccarthysnerd.I have no clue if he is but it's funny that you assume that it's the same person.
  39. Took this in 2006.
  40. Well that really does stink. My wife and I were looking forward to that walkthrough.

There will not be a tour of the ride.
  42. Woah! Blob of Comic Sans! Thanks for sharing, but your post would be much more readable in a normal font, with some line breaks and structure. Written English works much better in forums than a stream of conversational English. WWC provides abundant soaking already! If I wanted to get that drenched, I'd be in Soak City. Try being tall and riding Vortex. "Usually", it costs $25 per person. Discounts change at various times of the day, based on demand. Rides like this have a very low capacity, so the price changes to keep the line filled without overflowing it. It's a great ride. Just make sure you're facing forward with your head back during the launch, or you'll regret it later.
  43. I don't see what's so bad about SF. I mean I guess they're a poorly run company due to the fact they went bankrupt several years ago but when I went to Six Flags Great Adventure I had a blast; and I didn't even get to ride Kingda Ka!
  44. So, you've been to Six Flags Over Texas, Great Adventure, Six Flags Over Georgia, Fiesta Texas, Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great America, Six Flags New England? If not, how can you make such an all encompassing judgment?
  45. If Six Flags owned Kings Island, I'd have a working season pass. Parking would be more expensive. The park would be named Six Flags Over Kings Island. And a lot more decisions about the park's future would be made in Mason, Ohio (not Grand Prairie, Texas) rather than in Sandusky, Ohio. In addition, the COO would be a former KI GM, Paramount Parks CEO and Chairman, well aware of the park's heritage and potential.
  46. If I may be so bold... submitted for your consideration... 1. An aeriel view of Canada's Wonderland, pre Leviathan. The highlighted areas show the grounds as they existed before the coaster was installed. 2. An aeriel view of Kings Island, with an unmistakably similar area highlighted. 3. Hmmm..?! ;-) Am I saying Kings Island is getting a clone, or version of Leviathan? No. But I do think there's a great place for one at the park. From what I understand, Leviathan is an absolute shash hit at Wonderland... as was Behemoth. And if you recall, Diamondback followed Behemoth in installation. None the less, Wonderland and KD both feature coasters over the 300 mark. I wouldnt be at all surprised to see KI and Carowinds follow suite someday. *Sigh* Wishful dreaming? Maybe. But fun to speculate ;-)

Since when do race cars create huge waves of water? Even Formula One will stop the race if there's that much water on the track.
