  9. Like other members have said, waiting in line alone can be either the worst thing ever or the best thing ever, depending on what you make of it. I recall waiting in line for two hours for Flight of Fear alone twice. The first time I kept to myself and didn't talk to anyone, and by the time I got to the station I was so bored I tried counting the number of people in line. Thesecond time, I ended up striking up a conversation with some very nice people in front of me, and by the time I got to the station I kinda wanted to follow these people around for the rest of the day. The one thing I've learned about going to a park alone is that there's no reason why my being shy should get in the way of having a good time, and so I don't let it.

  10. Trip Report 7-4 With rain for all of the morning and afternoon, what better time to visit the park? Much like Monday's visit, the park was dead! I arrived around 3pm or so and headed towards The Beast for the first ride of the day. Got in 7 rides total on Wednesday on The Beast, of which 5 were in a steady shower. It made for a painful ride, but a unique experience and my first ever rain rides on The Beast! The other two rides were day rides sans rain. After these rides I headed over towards Diamondback and took in 7 laps, mainly towards the front of the train. Left around 8pm or so. Station waits or 1 to 2 trains at the most for all rides. Diamondback: 7 laps (season total: 7, all-time total: 85) The Beast: 7 laps (season total: 11, all-time total: 37) Trip Report 7-6 Much like Wednesday's trip, with all of the rain plus watching the webcam to see exactly how the park was looking, I decided to head out to the park during the late afternoon. Arrived around 5pm and the park was not packed at all. First ride of the day was The Beast. 2 laps (one in second to last row, one in the middle) on it before it going down, and was closed for quite sometime due to the supposed power surge as well. 1 to 2 train wait at the most for both rides. Headed to Diamondback and got in 2 laps, both towards the front of the train. Amazing as always. It was right after I got off Diamondback that the power surge occurred resulting in the train I just got off of being stuck halfway to 3/4 of the way up the lift. It sat there for around 15-20 minutes before everything resuming as normal. Headed over to The Beast right after Diamondback started back up and it was still down. Sat there and relaxed for a good 15 minutes looking at my phone and waited to see if it was going to open up in the next few minutes. It was during this time that a bird found it necessary for the 2nd time in a week to pick me as their "dumping ground". First at a funeral in Beckley, WV and now here at Kings Island! With the front of my shirt covered in bird $h!t I headed towards the front gate, picked up a Diamondback t-shirt and a license plate frame from ThrillSeekers, $25 for both and was the first time I've ever bought merchandise, save for ride pictures at the park. Around 7:15pm, I headed out to my apartment in Eastgate (to change) and grabbed a bite to eat at Rally's in nearby Milford on the way back. Returned around 9:15pm and grabbed a night ride on The Beast, 15 minute wait for this. After this, headed to Diamondback where I got in 13, yes 13 rides between 10pm and close. It was that dead! First night of the second half on Diamondback was right as the fireworks were getting started and my last ride, coincidentally my 100th ride on Diamondback, was the 2nd to last train of the evening. Pretty good night if I do say so myself! Diamondback: 15 laps (season total: 23, all-time total: 100) The Beast: 3 laps (season total: 14, all-time total: 40) Thanks for reading!

  12. People who leave like that, or claim to, thrive on melodrama. This thread is about Starting to Decode 2014. Let's continue on, and ignore that diversion. Post. Or not. But plea for attention while claiming to leave? No. At least not here. And, for those curious, RICH is a great KIC person who was at KIC day with his brother. He's never posted. Why he got drug into this, I have no idea.

  15. I have never been to a park by myself but have been on rides alone before. I like to share that time with whoever I'm with, usually my wife, but sometimes its my friend or my little cousins. I enjoy spending time with them but also have found that riding alone isn't as bad as most people would assume (I used to think that it was "bad" or "not fun" as well. Then I rode TTD by myself during coastermania about 6 times in a row then 2 times the next day without my wife because she doesn't like the ride. I stood in line and talked to some people and actually had a good time talking with complete strangers. I rode with some random mom and it had to be one of the more fun rides of the day. I also have been on DB by myself while my wife took her cousins through the kiddie rides during the last 30 minutes of the night, and met some awesome coaster nuts that I ended up marathoning for the last bit of the night. I think if you are by yourself you can still have a great time through meeting and talking to random people in line. Also like others said you aren't held to anyone else's schedule. You can do whatever you like! Also with what Terp said being the only person on a train has to be a cool thing to do. I think Zen rides could be a very fun and unique experience!

  16. The primary issue with getting trains dispatched and not having them stack is due to the luggage guests now carry with them that are placed in the storage bins on the ride platforms. It adds to the wait time.

  17. When I left the park last night (12:25AM) it didn't seem to bad. I finally got to take a look at construction, I think my favorite view was on Drop Tower, although, AE had a great view along with Top Gun (Flight Deck, but to me it will ALWAYS be Top Gun) I'd have to say that the construction looks a lot bigger in person. I was very shocked at how much room they had to work with!

  19. Some just get way too butt hurt when others disagree with their personal view, then publicly cry about it. This is a KI park forum. There is no serious Earth-shattering decisions made here. I personally love having fun with some (even poking fun at myself), but never let it get serious enough where I am actually mad. Those who choose to get emotionally mad at this stuff will certainly have (if it's not difficult already) a difficult time in the real World. People will purposely push your buttons just to get an emotional reaction because at that point you are no longer actually using intelligent reasoning but are letting your emotions take over. If it's happening here, you know it must be happening in your personal life.

  20. So much melodrama in this thread. People need to stop taking the bickering so seriously, and start taking the actual topic more seriously. Captain Nemo meant no ill will towards anyone, rather pointing out a percieved problem that he and many others (myself included) wish to be rectified. There is no need to block users or throw around language, especially over silly things like this. You guys are starting to look like an old married couple with your bickering. My advice: instead of creating drama, attempt to contribute logically and thoughtfully to the topic at hand. If someone does something wrong, politely let them know. If they start to get on your nerves, simply scroll past their post. This should be common sense etiquette around here.

  23. When it's just my mom and I, I go alone on the rides because my mom's not the biggest fan of the rides I ride. This is the style of the majority of my trips - and I, meanwhile, have discovered all the freedoms of being a single rider, such as choosing my own order of rides, riding some rides (Flight Deck, WindSeeker, Diamondback and Vortex, for me) as many times as I want, and stopping for as long as I want to take pictures (like in front of Vortex). I've met and talked with some nice people while waiting for rides like Zephyr, Vortex, WindSeeker, and Diamondback just to name a few. Although I just LOVE all the freedom a single rider has, it does not hurt to go with a group once in a while. In my opinion, I have a slight preference of being a single rider over being in a group, probably because I'm so used to riding solo now.

  27. I have been giving some thought to joining a coaster club this off season in order to hopefully be able to go on a media day like they did for Gatekeeper. I'm leaning towards the Greater Ohio Coaster Club. They seem to have some nice events and its not expensive at all for a family membership.

  28. Soo... Uh... Kings Island anyone? Let's see if we can get this train back on track. New Ride 2014. Many questions can still be asked: What kind of ride? Coaster? Anyone out there think it will not be a coaster? When will the release be? July? August? What year? 2013? 2014? If coaster, what kind? Made by who? What color will it be? Is there anything in the park that all this construction has made us forget about? Maybe a giant empty tan box in Rivertown? What if all this construction is a slight diversion? Maybe the year 2014 has more in store for us than this so called "Banshee"...

  29. secondson has told us how he feels, for better or for worse. Let's not call him a drama queen or a hypocrite. No one likes to feel like they're being picked on, whether the feeling is justified or not. By our responses, I think we've justified it. Yes, this site is all for fun, and no one should be taking it personally. For some members, especially those new to our ways, that's easier said than done. Sorry. I have a lot of respect for you, but comments like that one are uncalled for. If we're going to criticize, can we keep it civil?

  32. I haven't posted in probably 2 or 3 years, but I can't let this one go. If they truly were stacking all 3 trains every single cycle. That is roughly 24 trains per hour. Assuming the station to brakes is 2.5 minutes. 60 minutes divided by 2.5 per train is 24 trains. 24 trains times 32 riders is 768 rph. That's just embarrassing. Back in 2009 and 2010, if we weren't hitting a minimum of 1,000 rph, we heard about it. 1,200 was my personal minimum before I started getting upset. If you are complaining about 1 train in the station and 1 in the waiting brakes, then that's almost an inevitability. Even during power hours where we would get close to 50 trains per hour, that second train would stack occasionally. All this being said, I've only been to the park twice this year. I personally didn't notice it being ridiculously slow. I feel no need to place any blame on the ride ops. I know what it's like. Especially on weekends. I have seen a lack of hustle on some rides, but they aren't gonna be running power hours all day everyday. It can be exhausting and if not done properly can be extremely unsafe. There's my 2 cents. Now back to the land of lurking.

  34. I've been to the park alone on numerous occasions with this season being no exception. I don't prefer one way over the other honestly, I'm okay with being alone or going with friends/family.Although I will say that it's pretty fun to be alone because you can meet new people, not just some, but lots of new people and its a very unique experience. Another thing you're able to do when alone at the park is meet new people while standing in line, It never hurts to start a little conversation and get to know someone new, you can get to know someone quite a bit in the 30 min. to 120 min. that your in the line.

  35. And yet, the PARK itself encourages this, what with tweet-ups, selling bulky refillable bottles and the like. A couple of seasons ago, Six Flags installed dollar short term lockers and began inspecting guests at ride entrances, refusing entry to those with loose items. Cedar Point installed lockers at the Soak City entrance (now gone -- the lockers, not the entrance). SIX seems to have mostly backed off this policy. Mark Shapiro, then with Flags, had claimed it was all about capacity, not revenue. This brings up an interesting question, one often posed by Flags detractors. Longer lines mean the value of Flash Pass or Fast Lane is perceived more favorably. Terp, just sayin'.

  38. I unfortunately had a terrible experience at the Reds Grille on 7/1. Our server was wonderful.. Our food was terrible. We had 11 people at our table, 2 people ordered burgers, the rest had fried food. 4 of us had chicken tenders and fries, one had fish, etc. We received our food and I realized my chicken was a little bit dark, but hey, it may be the breading. Ate 1 tender and went to the 2nd...I noticed that it was extremely dry and thought so about the first. So I asked the others who had chicken tenders how their food was. They all said, the food is a bit dry. The one at our table who had fish noted that her fish was extremely dark in several spots. One in our group had a fried chicken salad or something of the sort (she was all the way at the other end of the table) she noted that her chicken was dry and the lettuce was dirty. One member of our group has been a manager at Bob Evans for 10-15 years and I've been working in the food industry since I was 15 for different companies and currently work for a company that only serves chicken. We both asked our server if we could have our food replaced with new fresh food. I at this point was frustrated and asked for a substitute of a piece of cake instead. About 20 minutes later, our food came back out and it was the same quality (minus my cake) that it was before. Both the Bob Evans manager and I asked to speak with the supervisor. He asked what the problem was so I picked up a tender and showed it to him, it was so dark brown, there were black spots all over it, it was dry on the inside, I brushed the finger with my hand and had tons of little crust remnants from the fryers fall into my hand and he didn't see any issue with that. I asked how long ago they changed their oil for their fryers. He told me that morning and that it was clean. I politely disagreed because of the training I've had with high volume fryers, I told him in my business we change oil in our fryers 3 times a day so our food is fresh, it doesn't discolor, or accumulate waste while cooking. He then argued with me that the fryers were cleaned that morning and that they were absolutely clean. I had advised him that I was going to speak with the department head of food and beverages, as I had previously spoke with him years ago. He then said that he couldn't do anything for us as that's how the food was to be prepared and served. Our group collectively decided we were done and as we were sitting their waiting for the server to talk to us, he came out of the back and told us that with the issues we had we weren't going to be charged. Before we left, I snapped a few pictures of the food to share with Gary (Department head) We got up and left while tipping the guy because it wasn't his fault. That evening, as we were ready to watch the fireworks in the International Restaurant, I saw Don and asked if Gary was up there. He pointed that he was in the other room. So I waited for him, had a great talk. He was very apologetic and definitely told me that the quality of food we got was not what is expected of that restaurant and he was going to take care of it. He asked me to email him the pictures I showed him. So it looks like he talked with the employees in the restaurant and got things straightened out by your stories above.
